âBeep-â
His iPhone chimed and a message had just come through.
Byte 7: [Are you serious to take revenge on your father?]
Langston snorted, testing back quickly. [Yeah, you gonna back me up, right?]
Byte 7: [Boy, you really know how to stir the pot, dont you? Dropped the whole Lopez Corporation issue
right on my lap! If it werenât for you, Iâd be charging at least 50 million for this job]
[Well, arenât your favorite apprentice?] Langston added a tongueâout emoji for good measure
Byte 7 abruptly ended the conversation. But Langston knew this was his mentorâs way of saying yes.
The man was as elusive as they came, he never hesitated to lend a hand when Langston needed cre

With Kenneth around, Dorothy finally felt safe enough to let loose and get properly crunk. Worried
sheâd have no one to look after her, Kenneth had refrained from drinking. Only Dorothy kept nonâstop
drinking
He didnât held her back this time.
Everyone deserves to get a little tipsy once in a while, right? Why not let her down her screws just this
once?
âWhy am I so upset, huh? What gives me the right to feel this way?!â
On their way back to the hotel, Dorothy clung to Kenneths shirt, questioning him relentlessly.
âYouâre human, arenât you?â Kenneth replied. âAnd you certainly have the right. After all, youâre the
woman who bore Everettâs children.â
He didnât voice the last part, though. Watching Dorothy confess herself, he found himself less worried
about her.
Once they reached the hotel, Kenneth tried to help her inside, but she gently pushed his hand away.
âI donât want to go back to that dark room. I want to sit out here for a while.â
âAlright, I stay with you.â Kenneth fetched two chairs from inside the hotel âSit down, youll catch a cold
on the ground.â
Dorothy nodded obediently, looking like a little girl
Kenneth didnt say much, just listened and quielly wiped her tears away when they fell
âWeâre over. Weâve been over for a long time.â
âI made my choice when I filed for divorce! Isnât this what I wanted?â
âBut it hurts.â Dorothy clutched at her chest, choking on her words. âI canât truly wish him happiness
with another woman. thought I could!â
Kenneth sighed softly. âTime heals all wounds. Give it time.â
âReally?â Dorothy looked at him, her eyes wide with hope. âCan I really forget about Everett?â
âYou can. You just have to keep moving forwardâ
âI canât,â Dorothy looked at him. T have too much weighing me down. I donât think Iâm drunk enough I
can still think clearly.â
She wanted to get blackout drunk, to not feel any pain to just fall asleep
Kenneth hesitated: âDo you want me to get more alcohol?â
âSure, letâs drink some more Dorothy nodded.
Otherwise, sheâd be in for a sleepless night
Kenneth went off to a nearby convenience store while Dorothy stayed behind, watching the city lights
dim and the occasional passerby.
Her phone suddenly rang. It was Lane.
Why would he be calling at this hour?
She hesitated but eventually picked up.
âDorothy, are you in Elderia City?!â
âHowâd you know?
*Jeffrey sad he saw you while he was driving by. He saw you and some guy getting cozy liefore
entering a hotel!â
