It was clear that Amanda was not willing to understand his perspective.
âAnd whatâs wrong with Heather? What is it that you donât like about her? Look at her Sheâs beautiful,
talented and capable. Whatâs not to love?â
âHer characterâ
âAnd Dorothyâs character is better, is it? Letâs not forget, she only agreed to marry you for your money!
Can you still say she has a good character when she sold herself for cash?â Amanda had done her
homework. She knew that Dorothy had agreed to marry Everett to secure funds for her motherâs
medical bills.
It all boiled down to money.
âI think Dorothyâs character is good, and thatâs all that matters. I donât need anyone elseâs judgement.â
YOU
âMom, I wonât marry Heather No matter how many times he had to repeat himself, he did not mind
doing it again.
âThen Iâm not your mother Infuriated, Amanda hung up the phone.
Everett frowned tightly. He knew upsetting his mother would inevitably lead to sleepless nights and
hospital visits for her. There was even a risk of losing her.
He didnât want that. But he also didnât want to betray his own heart.
As he put down his phone, a doctor rushed over with some documents in his hand.
âWeâve got the results, Mr. Lopez. Weâve got them!â
Heather didnât know who else to turn to, so she called Amanda
She knew that having Amanda order Everett to marry her wouldnât work. But at least she could help
Heather get through this difficult period.
âEverett has been bewitched! Donât worry, Iâll handle this!â
âThank you. I shouldnât have burdened you with all of this.â
âNonsense! Youâre doing this for Everett!â Amanda paused, then asked in a hushed tone, âTell me the
truth, do you know where the child
After hesitating for a moment, Heather confessed. âYes. A friend of mine took him. I just want to bring
him back home. Amanda, Im sorry, I just⦠Iâm afraid Everett will leave me
âIâm not blaming you! You did the right thing! If the child stays with you, Everett will eventually find out.
Give him to me, and I handle this.â
âBut what if Everettâ¦â
âHe wonât! Whatâs he going to de, investigate me?â
Heather originally intended to get rid of the child to avoid future trouble. But now that Amanda had
stepped in, and she trusted her, she felt she could hand over the child.
It was not that she was scared, but she didnât want her relationship with Everett to worsen. If it were
discovered now, she could say that Amanda had forced her to do it.
She would be absolved of all responsibility, and Everett couldnât blame her.
âAlright, I have someone bring the child to you.â
âGood. As for the child, you donât need to know anything or get involved.â
âOkay.â
After hanging u
the phone, Heather was about to call the man who had the child, but he called her firs
As soon as Heather answered, she could hear the panic in his voice.
âBad news! The child escapedâ
âWhat?â
I didnât expect him to be so smart! He cracked the code I set up! Heâs gone!â
