Jeffrey couldnât help but marvel at their uncanny resemblance. Langston looked identical to Everett,
especially when he furrowed his brow in that same sericus way that could easily get under oneâs skin
âI knew il! Heâs a deadbeat dadaâ
âYouâre right! He certainly is Jeffrey bent down to lift Langston and planted a peck on his cheek. âCome
on, I will take you out for some good grub. Letâs forget about that jerk. If we see him tomorrow, 111 kick
him for you!
Langston ncdded vigerously âOkay!â
Jeffrey took him so a local diner. He had no idea what kids typically ate, so he just ordered what
seemed fancy. He filled the table with a variety of dishes.
Before they could even finish eating, a call from Heather came through. After seeing her name flash on
the screen, Jeffrey realized he was not in the mood to answer but he knew she would not let it slide
easily. With a sigh, he answered the call.
âHello?
âWhere are you. Jeffrey? Heatherâs voice was laced with urgency
âIm out havir a dinner
âI heard there was a kid who looks exactly like Everett looking for him at the office today.â
Jeffrey rubbed his temple. He knew this news would eventually reach her.
âI think there might have been something like that.â
âDonât play dumb with me. The security guard said they couldnât find Everett, so they sent the kid to
your office. Donât tell me you didnât know!â As soon as Heather heard the news, she immediately called
Jeffrey. She didnât waste a single second
Jeffrey sighed. âWhy are you interrogating me? The kid isnât mine, and I didnât invite him here.â
âThen where is he now?â
Jeffrey glanced at Langston, deciding to follow his lead
âI donât know.â
âWhere did he go?â
âI donât know.â
âWho picked him up?â
âI donât knowâ
âJeffrey!â Heatherâs voice was tinged with anger. âYou know this is important to me! If that child is really
Everettâs, have you considered what I should do?â
Even Heather couldnât bear to think about the possibility that it was true. Was she expected to accept
that he had a child with another
woman?
âWhatâs wrong with you? if that child is Everettâs, whatâs it to you?â Jeffrey couldnât understand her
possessive lone. âAt most, you two are friends now Youâre probably even just colleagues in Everettâs
eyes. And that too is only because his father forced him to work with you. His having a child has
nothing to do with you.â
1 canât accept being a stepmother!â
*Donât worry, Evereit doesnât plan on making you oneâ
Heather fell silent.
Jeffrey felt his face harden, and he murmured, âItâs been years; you should understand by now. Donât
pretend to be the heiress of the Lopez Corporation. Until he agrees, youâre nalâ
âAmanda.â
âDo you plan on marrying his mother?â Jeffrey didnât know why he was saying these things, but he
couldnât stop himself. He was fed up with Heather living in her fantasy world, where she always tried to
interfore in Everettâs life.
Jeffrey had come to realize that Heather wasnt as innocent as she seemed. She would do anything to
get Everett, which was far more terrifying than mere jealousy.
Love can be fought for but there was no need to harm someoneâs mother. That was downright scory
âJeffrey, I canât believe youâre not on my side either What? Has Dorothy charmed you too? I thought we
were old friends!!
