It was then that Everett noticed the barrage of missed calls and messages from Jeffrey on his phone.
Where are you? Pick up your phone, man!)
[Dude, you have a surprise visitor at the office. He claims to be your son!
Well, well, well. Look whoâs been playing hide and seek. You better call me back with an explanation!]
A son?
Everett furrowed his brows in annoyance.
He didnât like Jeffreyâs taste for mindless jokes. He had only ever been with Dorothy in his life. There
was no chance of him having a child out of wedlock
Just as he was about to dismiss the messages and check on his work, Jeffrey called again.
Everett pressed the answer button, his tone heavy as he said, Tm trying to work here, Jeffrey. Cut the
crapâ
âIâm not kidding! Jeffrey was almost shouting. Your son is actually here at the office!â
âI donât have a son.â
âThatâs impossible! This kid is definitely yours. Everett. If you saw his face, youâd never say that.â
Jeffrey sounded extremely convinced
But to Everett, it seemed like Jeffrey was bored and found some random kid who looked like him to
ruffle his feathers
âJeffrey, did you finish dealing with the office projects? If youâre not busy, I can send you abroad
âHey! Why wonât you believe me?! I am going to send you a picture right now!â
âIm not interestedâ
Jeffery was dumbfounded. Why was this guy so difficult?
Everett massaged his temples in frustration. Being in this unfamiliar city outside his scheduled plans,
was already making him irritable. Im serious! Im not lying! Come back to Eldora City and see for
yourself!â
Is there anything else? Everettâs voice was cold. He had clearly run out of patience.
ly amâ¦
âI really
Before Jeffrey could finish, Everett hung up.
What he didnât expect was Jeffreyâs persistence. Despite being hung up on, Jeffrey sent him a picture
via WhatsApp.
Everett didnât bother to open it. Instead, he logged onto his computer and opened the companyâs
system.
Since he left the office abruptly, there were loads of pending tasks waiting for him.
Everett started attending to the companyâs matters and noticed a project contract from Heather.
Besides workârelated communication, he wouldnât spare her a word.
KNOCK, KNOCK
There was a knock at the door
Everett got up to answer.
It was Kevin, carrying some food and drink.
âMr. Lopez, you favenât eaten yet. Have some nourishment. I will look at the systemâs emails in a bit, so
you donât need to bother with them. If thereâs anything important, Iâll let you know.â
Everett knew how much Kevin had taken on for him over the years. He wasnât a harsh boss ton,
Twe got nothing else to do tonight. You should get some restâ
Kevin chuckled. Tm not tiredâ
Everett stepped aside to let Kevin in.
He arranged the food on the table and then made to leave.
âJoin me.â Everett offered.
âNo, thanks. Iâll grab a bite when I get homeâ
Kevin knew that Mr. Lopez had a serious case of mysophobia and was extremely particular about his
food. Kevin didnât need to indulge In such luxuries.
âI canât finish all of this myself. Itâs a good opportunity to discuss work.â
