âItâs impossible. He always finishes his homework swiftly, and the school teachers never force them to complete their assignments. Langston is a bright and quick-witted kid. The stuff they learn at school is a piece of cake for him."
Dorothy felt a pulsating ache in her temples.
If it werenât for the fact that Langston was missing, she would have fallen apart when she received Kennethâs call. She wouldnât have been able to stand.
"Kenneth, everything is up to you now. You must help me find him."
âI will do whatever it takes! In my eyes, Langston is no different from my own son.â
Dorothy knew he must be trying hard, but Langston always had a mind of his own. He did things that were beyond his age. He possibly inherited too much from a certain someone.
Just as she hung up with Kenneth, Karenâs call came in.
âDid you find him? My brotherâs line was busy. Itâs driving me nuts!â
âHe was on the phone just now.â Dorothy anxiously glanced at the departure time. "Langston is still missing. Iâm about to fly back to meet you, and then weâll go there together."
Her voice carried a sense of urgency that was unusual for her. Hearing that,
âAlright, Iâve already packed up Abigailâs stuff. We can leave at any time,â Karenâs voice replied. Langston being missing was like losing her own child.
âKaren, take care of Abigail.â
âDonât say such things! Look at the time.â
After hanging up, Dorothy couldnât sit still. She started pacing around the airport.
All she hoped for now was a call from Kenneth telling her that Langston had been found. She didnât want to hear anything else.
Dorothy was so absorbed in her worry that she didnât notice two pairs of eyes watching her from not far away.
Upon seeing her like that, Kevin softly said, âMr. Lopez, should I call Ms. Sancher? Our relationship wasnât bad before. She wouldnât ignore my call.â
âNo. Whatâs the difference between you calling and me calling?â
Dorothy must know about Kevin and Everettâs close relationship. Once the call went through, they would know that Everett had been around.
âThen should we ask someone from East Star Enterprises?â
âLaneâs people wonât tell us about it.â
That was his rival in love.
Well, he supposed that was the right term.
Mainly, Everett didnât want to disturb Dorothy, nor did he want her to know that he was watching her.
She was so scared of him that she wanted to avoid him at all costs. If she found out, she would only go further away.
âBut Ms. Sancherâs really worried; she canât even sit still. I wonder who has run away from home.â
âIt must be about her child,â Everett thought calmly as he recalled Kevin mentioning that Karen had a daughter.
Given Dorothy and Karenâs relationship, if her daughter was missing, Dorothy would be extremely anxious.
âMr. Lopez, should I send someone to help find her?â
âLetâs not rush. Weâll follow her and see what happens.â
If the child had just run out to play and they started a big search, it would be too conspicuous, and theyâd be quickly noticed.
If they genuinely couldnât find her anywhere, it wouldnât be too late to step in then.
A kid couldnât have gone far.
Kevin nodded. âRight.â
