âHehâJeffrey chuckled softly. âYou really are as tough as nails. No wonder Everett was so taken with
you.â
Dorothy frowned. âWhat are you getting at?â
Jeffrey shrugged. âI didnât expect to see you again after all these years, so I just thought we could catch
up. Thereâs no hidden agenda. You donât need to be so defensive; Iâm not like the athersâ
âI donât have anything to chitâchat about with you Dornily was ready to make her ext.
Jeffrey stepped in front of her to block her path. âI thought you might want to ask me about Everett, like
who heâs marrying
He didnât beleve for a second that Dorothy was curious
âDal need to know?â Dorothy asked
Who else would Everett many other than Heather? The Lopez family wouldnât have it any other way.
After seeing her indifferent expression, Jeffrey felt extremely annoyed. He pulled out his phone and
dialed Everettâs number.
Everett never used to pick up so quickly, probably because he always assumed Jeffrey was up to no
good. This time, however, he answered after only two rings.
Dorothyâs fingers were clenched tightly. It was as if a sharp them had pierced her heart.
âHello? What is it?â
Ignoring Everettâs question, Jeffrey put the call on speaker and turned to Dorothy
âWell, still got nothing to say? Why donât you ask him yourself who the brideâtoâbe i?â
Dorothy fell silent.
âEverett, guess whoâs standing in front of me right now?â Jeffrey teasingly raised an eyebrow at
Dorothy.
Dorothy glanced instinctively at the phone screen, feeling ke she could see him through t
Time seemed to stand still. She could even hear her own breathing. It had been so many years.
This was the closest she had been to him. So close that she felt like hiding the wanted to leave
Everglow City right then and there.
A few seconds passed and then Everettâs calm and steady voice with a hint of imitation rang out. âIâm
not interestedâ
âWast, you.. Jeffreyâs surprised response was cut short when the call ended abruptly.
At that moment, Dorothy knew that Everett must have guessed everything. He was so smart, he
probably knew the moment Jeffrey opened his
mouth
It seemed he had nothing to say to her and didnât want to get involved with her anymore.
Right He hated her; he had said so himself.
Dorothy took a deep breath, trying to appear normal so as not to let her inner turmoil show. âMr. Turner,
isnât your curiosity salised yet? Please leave me alone! If you think thereâs something between me and
Lane, then I can just resign and leave. After this project, I was planning on leaving the country anyway.
She wanted to get away from this place where she had to be constantly on guard
She had run into too many people from her past recently, and there were too many people who thought
of Everett when they saw Abigail.
She was living in constant fear,
âWho mentioned anything about Lane? I was talking about you and Everett.â
âThereâs even less chance of anything happening between me and him. You saw it yourself. Everest
doesnât want anything to do with me, and have no intention of getting involved with him either. So, rest
assured, I wonât interfere with his marriage to Heatherâ
Jeffrey paused as his thin lips curled up slightly. âHe didnât marry Heather.â
Dorothy was left speechless.
âEverett once said he would never marry the person who hurt youâ
