Dorothy pondered for a moment and then grinned lightly. âLetâs bring Austin along. Heâs contributed the
most to this project. If you only bring me to network, Austin might get jealous.â
Lane chuckled helplessly. âAlright, if you say so. But Iâm genuinely curious about how your husband
managed to win you over.â
She was bright and tactful, always maintaining a certain distance from people without ever causing any
discomfort. She was approachable yet somewhat inaccessible at the same time.
What would one have to do to earn a place in such a womanâs heart?
Dorothy didnât respond to his question. After all, that story was too much for even her to think about.
Everglow City Airport.
Once Lane left the construction site, he headed straight to pick someone up.
Perhaps it had been a while since heâd seen his friend, and he was missing him.
As soon as the clock hit the right hour, he saw the man walk out of the airport. He was alone, with no
luggage in sight.
âOver here!â Lane waved his hand and rushed forward to greet him with a tight hug
âCan you tone down the enthusiasm? People might get the wrong idea.â The man complained, but had
a beaming smile on his face.
Lane laughed and patted his shoulder. âYouâre still as handsome as ever! You havenât been breaking
girlsâ hearts back home, have you?â âMe? With my workaholic boss? I donât even have time to go
hunting. Itâs a tough life, buddyâ
âYou better not tell me you have unsuitable thoughts about my crush?â
âJudging by your reaction, if I said yes, youâd be ready to put me back on the plane, right?â The man
laughed heartily and shook his head. âIâm just curious, thatâs all Donât worry, you couldnât even make a
move on her, so Iâm not going to overestimate my abilities.â
Lane sighed when the topic was brought up. âJeffrey, why couldnât be the one to meet her first? I
wonder whatâs so good about her husband that sheâs so devoted to him!â
Jeffrey raised an eyebrow. âHave you met her husband?â
âNo, but I can tell she really loves him.â Lane and Jeffrey chatted as they walked to the car. âYouâll
understand when you meet her Sheâs perfectâ
âAlright, alright, Iâm looking forward to it. If it doesnât work out, I think of something for you.â
âI invited her to dinner, but she was on guard, so she insisted on bringing Austin from the project alongâ
Lane had been around a lot of women over the years. He had seen all kinds. Among them were some
who were hard to pursue, but that was just a matter of putting in more effort. So, he always believed
that as long as you worked hard enough, there was no such thing as a woman you
couldnât have.
But he hit a wall with Dorothy.
She was immune to all his tactics. She didnât even give him a chance to be alone with her. Even when
Lane tried to offer her benefits through his position, she only accepted what she believed she deserved
and returned everything else.
And it was this that made Laneâs heart flutter.
He thought that having a wife like her would provide reassurance. She was immune to temptation and
would faithfully follow her husband.
The car kept going until it finally stopped in front of a hotel.
Just as Jeffrey was about to get out of the car, Lane stopped him and warned him carefully. âShe
doesnât like jokes much, so donât go overboard.â
âDonât worry! Iâve got to make a good impression on your future wife.â
Jeffrey waved his hand, smiled as he got out of the car, and looked up.
There was a familiar face he would never forget
