It seemed that for Dorothyâs sake, he could even put his project in Lumina Bay on hold.
Everett got out of the car, looking like he hadnât gotten much sleep last night. His handsome face
looked a bit tired, and his eyes were shadowed with dark circles.
âWhat happened?â Amanda, noticing her sonâs unusual state, asked as she approached him.
âNothing. Iâve just been busy with work and didnât get much shutâeye. He didnât want to reveal these
issues to his mom, so he turned his gaze to Heather, who was standing beside her. âMs. Heather can I
have a word with you in private?â
Heather nodded and smiled. âYou can give me a lift to the office. It saves me from having to drive.
Amanda Everettâs gonna take me. III be heading off with him.â
âOff you go! Amanda was all too happy to see this.
She was thrilled to see her son finally warming up to Heather.
With his mom around, Everett didnât say much. Letâs get going then.â
âAlright. Come back after work.â
âSureâ
Everett started walking, not bothering to wait for Heather, who was lagging behind.
She almost twisted her ankle. She couldnât keep up with him in her high heels.
Once they got in the car, Heather acted as if nothing had happened. âWhat made you come back from
Lumina Bay all of a sudden?â
âWhy are you targeting Dorothy?â
Everettâs question wasnât really a question, but a statement.
Heather looked at him with disappointment written all over her face. âYou think I did this? Because
Dorothy told you I was out to get her?â
âThen what?â
âIâve been at the Lopez Corporation for years. Iâve always done my job well. Have I ever done anything
to harm the companyâs interests?â Heather stared at Everettâs icy face as her grievances started to
surface. âAnd your Dorothy, how long has she been with the Lopez Corporation? What has she done
for the company?â
Everett remained silent
âI thought you wouldnât suspect me.â Heatherâs eyes were full of disappointment. âAt least do some
digging first before coming straight to me with your accusations! Show me a little respect!â
âDorothy has no reason to sell the core technical blueprint.â
This was why Everett believed in Dorothy.
He could give her whatever she wanted. She wouldnât need to resort to this.
âWhy not? Do I need to remind you of her financial situation? Sure, you gave her money for her momâs
hospital bills, but that doesnât mean sheâs satisfied. The other company must have offered her o large
sum of money How can you be so sure she wouldnât be tempted?â
Everyone at the Prosperity Consortium knew Dorothy was in need of money.
But Heather wasnât. She had more than enough from her years at the Lopez Corporation, enough to
splash out for the rest of her life. From any angle, Dorothy was the one with a motive,
âSheâs not thut kind of person.â
âSo, Iâm the one whoâd sell the company for money? Her retort was quick
Disappointment and bitterness were the only things that could be heard in her tone.
And it made sense. Over the years, she had given so much to the Lopez Corporation. Even now, with
her surgery scar still healing, she was still at work, never missing a beat of the legal department
âSo, Iâm asking you, why target Dorothy?â
Everett didnât believe Heather would do this for money either.
She laughed. âCouldnât it be Dorothy envying me? Couldnât she be selling the companyâs secrets and
then framing me? Everett, sheâs from poor background. You canât apply your thinking to her. A poor
person, when theyâre desperate, can do anything!â
