Chapter 5: Rotten Plate

In Aurora's room-

"Lady Aurora" (Estefano, said)

'Huh...why does this voice sound like Estefano?' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

'Step'

"Lady" (Estefano, said)

At the second call Aurora raised up from the bed with drowsy eyes.

"Heuk" (Aurora)

Aurora let a surprised shrike when she saw Estefano standing close by her bed.

"Lady Aurora?" (Estefano, asked)

Estefano asked with a worried voice by Aurora surprised reaction.

'What is this man doing here? Did he just come in again without permission?' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

At Aurora's silence Estefano spoke again.

"Ahem...your father told me to come inform you that the marriage script went through, and you should get ready to leave tomorrow. Also, your father is n-" (Estefano, said)

Aurora coldly interrupted him.

"Is this a habit of yours?" (Aurora, asked)

Aurora glared.

"Pardon?" (Estefano, asked)

Estefano asked confused.

'He comes and barges in my room whenever he pleases without my permission. I'm in my night gown! I just woke up, so where is the respect?!' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

'In my past life he stood there like nothing as I was dressed in my bathrobe but no more...' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

"You come into my room, forget to knock, and barge inside my room without a worry. Tell me, is this not enough disrespect?" (Aurora, asked)

She continued as she now pointed at her night gown.

"I'm in my night gown now, next time you come would I be in my bathrobe?" (Aurora, asked)

Estefano eyes widen at the realization.

"Not only are you disrespectful to the daughter of a noble but you could have put the marquess in a difficult position when a man comes into a young lady's room without permission." (Aurora, said)

Aurora made no space for Estefano to talk as she continued.

"I'm sure you know how gossipy the Lepiliondel maids are? Who do you think the marquess would blame?" (Aurora, asked)

Estefano quickly responded.

"My lady I would never!" (Estefano, said)

Estefano had raised his voice to defend his name but Aurora snapped.

"You are a man, and I am a young lady, you entered without my permission do I need to make myself more clear or would you rather me tell the marquess?" (Aurora, asked)

She said coldly.

'No...' (Estefano's inner thoughts)

'Thud'

Estefano kneeled down on the floor.

"Lady I-I apologize, I behaved improperly." (Estefano, said)

"P-Please forgive me." (Estefano, said)

'How bothersome' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

"From now till I leave this place if you have something to say you knock and wait for permission do you understand?" (Aurora, asked)

"Y-Yes, Lady" (Estefano, said)

"Then I hope you keep that in mind, so don't come here unless there is an important matter." (Aurora, said)

"Yes, I will keep that in mind" (Estefano, said)

Aurora looked out the morning sun and down at the butler.

"You may rise" (Aurora, said)

Estefano stood up and stared at Aurora.

"Then, bring the maid that always brings me my food." (Aurora, said)

"Yes" (Estefano, said)

Estefano bowed and left.

'Clack'

"Now, to deal with Maryjane." (Aurora, said)

'Creak'

Aurora got up, put some slippers near her bed and did her bed like a habit.

Once the bed was tied up, she realized that she unconsciously did it.

"Ah, I guess I naturally did it as a habit." (Aurora, said)

Aurora sighed.

"Anyways" (Aurora, said)

Aurora looked at her needle marks.

'Tap'

"Ouch" (Aurora)

Aurora complained in pain.

"I guess touching them still hurts." (Aurora, said)

Aurora then turned her face to the wooden circular table with one wooden chair near the window.

Aurora had finally arrived at the table.

'Creak'

She sat down.

'Tap, Tap'

She taped her finger in the table.

"So tomorrow uh?" (Aurora, said)

"They sure are fast..." (Aurora, said)

Aurora turned to the window.

"..." (Aurora)

'Knock'

Knocking on the door.

Aurora turned to look at the door at the sound of the knock.

"Come in" (Aurora, said)

Maryjane came in with a round dark brown tray that held two white plates with two silver covers.

'Oh, this is new...' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

As Maryjane came in holding the dark brown surface tray with both hands, she left the door open.

'Thud'

Maryjane placed the tray in the table.

Aurora stared at the two silver covered plates.

'Clack'

Maryjane placed a hand in each and removed the lid.

"..." (Aurora)

'And here I thought the meal would be different' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

A rotten piece of bread in the left and on the right a moldy olive green soup with soggy black rotten floating meat.

'Ha, that will teach you! Lady Adelina herself came with the idea of adding rotten meat for you!' (Maryjane's inner thoughts)

"What's wrong lady? Is it not to your liking? I personally added more soup juice." (Maryjane, said)

Maryjane snickered as she said.

'Creak'

Aurora stood up from the chair.

She placed her palms gently on the table then looked down at the food silently.

"Oh my, are you not planning on eating it?" (Maryjane, asked)

She continued to snicker.

"That would be a shame since those where the only leftovers." (Maryjane, said)

'I got you! You insolent lady!' (Maryjane's inner thoughts)

After Maryjane insulting remarks, Aurora finally spoke keeping her head down.

"Does this look edible to you?" (Aurora, asked)

"Uh?" (Maryjane)

"Ah, yes of course it does if not why would I have brought it here? Besides your used to eating this we just added some meat that's why it looks a little different." (Maryjane, said)

Maryjane said arrogantly and proudly.

Aurora finally raised her head and looked at Maryjane.

"Is that so?" (Aurora, asked)

Aurora smiled.

"Y-Yes?" (Maryjane, said)

Maryjane said confused as Aurora asked with a smile.

'Why is she smiling? She's the type of person to not show her emotions... but her eyes look somehow cold.' (Maryjane's inner thoughts)

'Step, Step'

Aurora walked next to Maryjane and pushed her gently.

"Uh what are you doing?" (Maryjane, asked)

Maryjane let herself be pushed in confusion.

'Thud'

Aurora grabbed Maryjane's shoulders and sat her in front of the plates.

"You said it was edible, wasn't it?" (Aurora, asked)

Aurora whispered to Maryjane's ear.

Maryjane flinched.

"Now eat it" (Aurora, said)

Aurora said as she removed her face away from Maryjane.

Aurora walked to the other end of the table.

"Go on eat it" (Aurora, said)

Aurora glared at the sitting Maryjane who sat confused.

"What? You want me to eat it?" (Maryjane, asked)

Maryjane snickered as if she heard nonsense.

"Yes" (Aurora, said)

Aurora immediately responded.

'Does she think I'll eat it? How pathetic' (Maryjane's inner thoughts)

"Hmph, I appreciate the offer, but I brought it for you lady" (Maryjane, said)

Maryjane pushed the plate in front of Aurora with a cunning smile.

Aurora bend down and pushed the plate back in front of her.

"..." (Maryjane)

Aurora put her elbows on the table and her palms on her chin.

"Maryjane what's wrong didn't you say it was edible?" (Aurora, asked)

Aurora scrunched her eyes toward Maryjane.

"No, I-" (Maryjane, said)

Before Maryjane could finish...

'Swish'

Aurora's left hand reached the left rotten bread and held it in front of Maryjane's face.

"Eat it before I shove it down your throat." (Aurora, said)

Aurora coldly said.

'I used to eat this since there was no other food but it's your turn now.' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

'Gulp' (Maryjane)

At Aurora's suffocating aurora Maryjane swallowed hard.

She's truly a monster. That prophecy was correct.' (Maryjane's inner thoughts)

Aurora moved the bread closer to Maryjane's face.

"Huk" (Maryjane)

Maryjane let out scared cry.

Suddenly...

'Step'

Walking.

"What's is going on?" (Arian, asked)

At Arian's voice Maryjane turned around.

"Ah! Young master Arian" (Maryjane, said)

"..." (Aurora)

Aurora did not turn around as she looked straight ahead holding the rotten bread where Maryjane was seated at.

"I asked what's going on?" (Arian, asked)

Arian now leaned against the doors.

'Thud'

Aurora placed the rotten bread on the table.

Maryjane took a quick glance at Aurora.

'If I blame it on her I'm sure even young master Arian will scold her.' (Maryjane's inner thoughts)

'Thud'

Now Maryjane dropped to her knees.

"Y-Young master she has forced me to eat rotten food, p-please help me" (Maryjane, said)

Maryjane acted scared and worried.

'Step, Step, Step, Step'

Arian stood in front of the kneeling Maryjane.

He looked at the plates.

"?!" (Arian)

His eyes went wide.

"What is this?!" (Arian, asked)

Arian raised his voice as he turned his gaze at the unbothered Aurora who still looked straight ahead.

"Aurora I asked you a question!" (Arian, yelled)

'Pull'

Maryjane pulled in his right dressing pants.

Arian turned and looked down at Maryjane.

"She asked for-" (Maryjane, said)

"I asked her not you!" (Arian, yelled)

Arian had cut Maryjane off looking at Maryjane annoyed.

'I see Estefano isn't the only one with that habit' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

Aurora smiled.

"Pfft" (Aurora, laughed)

At Aurora's laugh Arian quickly turned and looked at Aurora who had never laughed ever since they were small.

'Is she trying to mock me?!' (Arian's inner thoughts)

"Are you laughing at my words?" (Arian, asked)

Arian asked displeased.

Aurora continued to look forward as Arian asked.

'Creak'

Finally, she got up from her bending position and turned to face Arian with a smile.

"So, what if I am?" (Aurora, said)

Aurora said arrogantly.

"!" (Arian)

'I came here without knowing why, I wanted to come here yesterday because I felt upset that she has to marry him so I trained instead to take my mind off but since I couldn't sleep a wink I had to come and ask myself how she was doing.' (Arian's inner thoughts)

'I wanted her to refuse the marriage. I felt bad for her. I never felt like this and when I come to see her, she acts like this?' (Arian's inner thoughts)

Aurora added as Arian's thoughts became more conflicted.

"What don't tell me the great young marquess Lepiliondel has never been offended?" (Aurora, asked)

Aurora lifted her left brow with and arrogant tone.

'Young marquess Lepiliondel? She's never called me like that...she always calls me brother.' (Arian's inner thoughts)

'Throb' (Arian)

'Why am I so upset she called me like that?' (Arian's inner thoughts)

'It feels strange, I always hated when she called me brother but now it doesn't so feel good...' (Arian's inner thoughts)

Aurora looked at the silent Arian.

'Let's be done with him and get him out of my room.' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

Aurora continued.

"I was only feeding her what she feeded me every day." (Aurora, said)

Aurora said coldly.

"There is a limit to how much my stomach could take after all." (Aurora, said)

Aurora looked at the kneeling Maryjane.

"!" (Arian)

Arian took another glance at the food and down at Maryjane to try to process what he just heard.

'I can't believe a lowly person like her has been feeding Aurora this kind of garbage!' (Arian's inner thoughts)

"How dare you feed her this garbage? Have you forgotten your place!" (Arian, yelled)

Arian snapped at Maryjane.

'No this isn't it how it supposed to be! I was sure he would be in my side since he hated her too! How?' (Maryjane's inner thoughts)

"N-No it's a misunderstanding m-" (Maryjane, said)

'Slam'

Arian interrupted her words by slamming the table hard with his fist enough to drop the soup bowl.

'Drip, Drip'

The moldy soup had spilled onto Maryjane's hair.

'Drip, Drip'

Dripping down to her face.

"Ugh" (Maryjane)

Maryjane covered her mouth in disgust as Arian spoke coldly.

"You dare mock the Lepiliondel name?!" (Arian, asked)

He furiously yelled.

'Shake'

Maryjane shook her head with tears.

Arian continued to scream.

"A mere maid like you brings such food to their masters?!' (Arian, asked)

Arian continued to speak with a furious tone.

Maryjane looked up at Arian.

'That maid.... now looking at her closer isn't she one of Adelina's maids?' (Arian's inner thoughts)

"You're my sisters Adelina's main maid, right?" (Arian, asked)

His tone seemed to ease down a little.

Maryjane's breath seemed to relax a little when Arian's tone ease down.

'I knew the young master loves Lady Adelina...he will sure let me go then.' (Maryjane's inner thoughts)

"Yes, that's right." (Maryjane, said)

"Tsk" (Arian)

Arian clicked his tongue.

"Then why are you feeding Aurora and not another maid?" (Arian, asked)

"You are supposed to be Adelina's maid, there is no reason for you to be here." (Arian, said)

"Ah that's b-because lady Adelina herself put me in charge." (Maryjane, said)

'It's the truth after all' (Maryjane's inner thoughts)

'So, Adelina did she know about this then?' (Arian's inner thoughts)

Arian made a conflicted face that worried Maryjane.

"Young m-master?" (Maryjane, asked)

Maryjane asked cautiously while Arian responded coldly.

"Get up" (Arian, said)

He raised his voice, but anyone could tell he was holding in his anger.

"Ah, ahh" (Maryjane)

Maryjane thought she would be excused for what had happened today.

She got up slowly.

Arian glared at Maryjane.

"Adelina is busy now, so I'll have a talk with her about this matter later." (Arian, said)

"Ah y-yes" (Maryjane, said)

She sounded relieve as she clasped her hands together.

Arian scrunched his eyes.

"Even so, this action will not go unnoticed, I shall make sure to report this to my father understood?" (Arian, said)

Arian continued to coldly glare.

"Y-Yes" (Maryjane, said)

'Knock'

Soon the tension turned to the standing awkward butler.

"..." (Arian, Aurora, Maryjane)

At the awkward atmosphere Estefano spoke.

"Ahem...sorry to interrupt but lady Aurora has an appointment with Adelina and the dresser." (Estefan, said)

'Ah, I forgot today the famous designer Renata came to add some adjustments to her coming-of-age dress and bring her a dress that she'll wear between the marquess Elex, Arian, and the royal family to discuss preparations for the engagement' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

'She probably calls me to show off just like last time. I doubt it's anything for me.' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

"I see, then I shall prepare." (Aurora, said)

She spoke indifferently.

Arian looked at Aurora, turned to look at Maryjane, and back at the butler.

"Yes, lady I will take my le-" (Estefano, said)

Arian interrupted.

"If your goanna leave, take this bitch with you and drag her to the cells." (Arian, said)

Arian angrily said.

Maryjane's surprised voice was heard from the back.

"N-No please I-" (Maryjane, said)

Maryjane's voice sounded in the verge of tears again.

But Arian ignored her as he continued speaking at Estefano.

"You shall not release her until I or my father give you the order." (Arian, said)

'I don't know what she did, but I must follow' (Estefano's inner thoughts)

"Yes" (Estefano, said)

'Step, Step, Step'

Estefano walked toward Maryjane and dragged her out the way.

"Please y-young master! I'm sorry!" (Maryjane, yelled)

Both Aurora and Arian looked at Maryjane who was being dragged away.

'I was planning to make her eat it but who knew that Arian handled it unexpectedly.' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

Aurora ruffled her hair while Arian turned and looked at her.

Suddenly, Arian grabbed Aurora's wrist.

"What is this?!" (Arian, asked)

He yelled with shaken eyes as he looked at Aurora's needle marks near her elbows.

He pointed with his other hand while Aurora looked down at what Arian was pointing at.

'The needle marks...I just woke up and with all this ruckus didn't give me a chance to get ready.' (Aurora's inner thoughts)

"What does it look like to you?" (Aurora, asked)

Aurora looked up at Arian annoyed.

Arian ignored her tone and her gaze as he was too concentrated looking at her marks.

"It looks like needle marks" (Arian, said)

Arian said concerned.

He continued to look at the marks as if he were studying it with his eyes.

"Good, you're not blind." (Aurora, said)

Aurora yanked her hands off Arian.

"I don't have the time nor the energy to argue with you. I'm hungry and annoyed so please take your leave Adelina is waiting." (Aurora, said)

Aurora coldly said.

Arian then looked Aurora up and down.

'Of course, she would be...just by looking at her she looks so weak and ill even so she still arguing with me does she not care what her state is' (Arian's inner thoughts)

Surprisingly he did not respond coldly.

"No, Adelina can wait. Let me call a doctor you look ill an-" (Arian, said)

Aurora snapped again.

"Don't bother" (Aurora, said)

"You never did once, so why now?" (Aurora, asked)

She crossed her hands as she looked away.

"..." (Arian)

"Just get out." (Aurora, said)

" I don't need your insincerity so worry about yourself." (Aurora, said)

"If what your feeling is guilt then just leave. You yourself treated me like I was nothing therefore I don't need any of your fake pity." (Aurora, said)

"So, go out." (Aurora, said)

"You" (Arian, said)

Arian's eyes grew wide.

'Throb' (Arian)

Aurora's word hurt Arian's feelings, but he knew she was right.

'She doesn't even bother to look at me anymore. As if I'm not worth her time.' (Arian's inner thoughts)

"You" (Arian, said)

He greeted his teeth.

Admitting it or not it hurt his pride. He himself was sure not going to admit it so the best solution was pretend as it didn't bother him.

"You're right, why should I bother with the likes of you." (Arian, said)

Arian raised his voice as he stared at Aurora who was still facing away.

'Step, Step, Step'

Arian started walking away.

He halted his step and looked back at Aurora who was still looking away.

"Calling any doctor would be useless, they all would just refuse once knowing who they had to treat." (Arian, said)

"If you want to continue to eat that disgusting food so, be it. If more needle marks appear so what of it! I would care less if you died." (Arian, said)

Aurora turned to look at the vanishing Arian.
