It was dark and late when Emma and Edward came back. The two had spent the evening together with the other guests from the funeral. "I'm tired. I will go to sleep." Emma said quietly and went to the couch, her current sleeping place. Edward only just nodded and went upstairs. Even though he wanted to shower, he didn't. He just wanted the day to end. Edward wouldn't sleep yet. He couldn't sleep yet. While parking the car in front of the house, he saw it moving between the trees. He would just stay up and make sure it doesn't get inside. Edward turned a small lamp in the room on and sat down at the table. A sigh was let out and he looked at the pictures on the table. There was one, which was forty years old. It was a drawing he made when he was seven years old. It had been following Edward since forty years.
He was close to burn the picture, but he got distracted by a scratching sound on the window. There it was. The hand of it covered neatry the whole window and you could see the scratch marks. Edward wanted to grab his gun, which usually was in the lowest drawer, though it had been gone. "Emma?" Edward yelled downstairs and shortly after heard her footsteps on the stairs. "Yes?" He sighed in relief and pointed at the window. Emma was about to say something, though he shushed her,as the creature was currently looking through the window. Both of them stood still until the thing took its head away. "Okay. I need you to get me the nails from downstairs. It will probably stay up here for a while." Emma didn't move and looked a little sad at Edward. "I can't get them for you." Edward looked confused at her. "What do you mean by that? They're downstairs in the kitchen." "I know. But how would I be able to get them if I'm not here?" Edward was even more confused. He didn't even look at the window anymore. "Are you trying to be funny right now?" "Edward. Don't you remember?" "Remember what?" Emma started to look distorted in Edward's eyes. "You didn't come in time yesterday. I died." Edward saw the flashing image of Emma without her head. He reached with his hand towards her. He couldn't feel her and now she was gone. Edward rushed downstairs and grabbed his car keys. He couldn't stay here tonight. Without even asking, he started driving towards Jenny's home.
It took him quite some time to get through the evening traffic. Jenny was still at another friend's place, so only her father's were there. Dave was a little surprised,as he and Charles didn't expect any guests. All of the three sat in the living room with a warm cup of coffee. "How is Jenny doing?" Edward asked, after they had been talking about fishing. "Not so good..." Charles had his hands around the cup. Dave adjusted his glasses. "She spends most of her time in her room; barely eating anything." He added. Edward was basically doing the same. He doesn't remember when he actually ate something. "I'm sorry to hear that... I'm sure she'll get better." A faint smile was on Charles face, though it didn't last long. Dave finished his coffee and stood up. "We should change the topic. How about a round of Mario kart 64?" The two nodded and they sat down on the sofa. Dave started to get the console ready and handed two controllers over. "You are not gonna steal my character." Charles said while selecting Toad. "Don't worry. No one wants to steal your mushroom." Edward replied and picked Donkey Kong. "I guess I'm different..." Dave picked Peach and the game started.
Three hours had passed and Charles eventually won the game. "I want to visit the grave tomorrow again." Edward announced before going upstairs. The two dad's had told him to sleep in Jenny's room. He wasn't able to get much sleep; the situation with Emma was haunting him. After not being able to sleep till 4 a.m, Edward decided to stand up and look at the clues they had about it at the moment. He didn't know that it would come back after forty years. Where even did it hide for so long? Edward heard a door creaking sound and Jenny popped her head in. "Hi.. I came back sooner." She put her bag on the floor and sat down next to Edward. "Couldn't sleep anymore." "Guess that makes two of us." Edward said while laughing a little. And Jenny joined him a bit. "I promise it will get better." He said, trying to sound positive about it. Jenny didn't seem to really believe it. They started talking about how she and Mika became a couple. It was a sweet story and Jenny ended up falling asleep on Edward's shoulder. He gently laid her on the bed and stood up. He was still in his clothing from the day before and decided to go downstairs. Charles was surprisingly awake and greeted him. "Good morning. Do you need to go to work?" He asked while sipping on a cup of tea. "Uhâyeah. I have to go to work." Edward replied. He actually didn't need to, though he didn't want to bother them anymore. "Alright! Hope to see you again soon." Charles followed him to the door. "Drive carefully. Another snowstorm is on its way." "Oh,okay. Thanks!" Edward got into his car and started driving.
It was about 7:38 a.m when the red truck arrived at the cemetery. Edward was holding flowers in his hands and made his way to Connor's grave. Three gravestones were standing next to each other.
"Connor Clark
Beloved son and friend
*12.27.1970
â 12.18.1991"
"Emma Clark
Mother
*2.11.1946
â 12.20.1991"
"Mika Runes
Son & Friend
*4.29.1970
â 12.19.1991"
Somehow Edward had pushed the death of Emma away. Which is why he didn't realise that she was dead already. He placed the flowers equally on the three graves. On Connor's grave was a picture of him with Jenny and Mika. All of them were laughing. That made Edward smile a little. The snowflakes started to cover the picture and Edward looked up in the sky. He needed to get home. But he didn't want to. "I love you."
