Devon's POV

I watched the surprise on her face when I asked her to eat with me. She wasn't a bad person, she had a good personality and the only issue she had was her inability to speak.

I had an important meeting today and I didn't want to miss it. She was also a very good chef.

"This is nice." I complimented. "The pasta is so tasty and I love the meatballs. It's exactly the way I like eating my meat."

She smiled softly. She must have been so excited that I had complimented her cooking without her having to ask. She still wasn't comfortable eating with me. I had to hurry and finish my meal. I took only a glass of wine.

"You can have some if you want," I said. Olivia was so surprised and every time I permitted her to do something or spoke nicely to her, she would look surprised and then sad.

I left the dining and allowed her freedom to eat. I watched her for a while and I saw that she became comfortable and ate properly. I suddenly returned and she paused in her movements.

"Don't forget your training. I won't be around doesn't mean you can lazy about it." I warned seriously. She nodded severally and I left for good this time.

I left for the hospital where Susan was awaiting me.

"Alpha Devon." She bowed in greeting. "I got your message. Come with me."

I followed her into her office and she showed me where to sit.

"What seems to be the issue this time around?" She asked. I was just about to speak when the door opened and in came someone. I didn't bother turning to know who it was.

"Candice, I'm in a meeting. Come back later." Susan said instantly. From her expression, I could tell that she wasn't exactly okay with the person who had come in. I turned to see who it was. I remember seeing her the day I brought Olivia here.

"Alpha Devon." She bowed too deeply. I scowled slightly. I simply turned back to face Susan.

The girl left after she noticed I didn't pay any attention to her.

"I'm sorry about that, Alpha Devon." Susan apologized. "What is the matter?"

"I have to ask. Is there anything we can do to enable Olivia to speak?" I asked. I cannot explain why I came here for this purpose.

But after yesterday, I could sense a shift in my feelings for her, and as much as I know I am not in love, I also know that I would be able to have a mate and not just a maid but that depended on if she could speak.

Susan didn't seem that much surprised that I had brought this up just a few days after bringingSShhero to be injected.

"Alpha Devon, honestly, I don't think it was caused by a sickness to start with." She answered. "Olivia is mute because that's how she was created. Perhaps if she was able to harness her inner abilities, she would be able to speak."

"Inner abilities? The girl is weak. She is the weakest wolf in her pack. Is the moon goddess playing a prank on me?" I yelled.

Susan became afraid and it was evident in the way she moved back in her seat.

"Alpha Devon, please calm down." She begged. "It's not in my place to cure her but I have an idea that might help her."

I calmed down a little. "Speak up."

She took deep breaths as if to calm herself down as well.

I slammed the table. "Don't waste my time, Susan."

"I... I would suggest that she begins to train properly, hard even. If she can be able to increase her strength, she would be able to harness her inner abilities. Once she does that, her true form will emerge and by then we will know if she will speak or not."

"Or not?!" I yelled. "So you're not even certain it will work?!"

"Alpha Devon, please don't be mad, please just listen to me calmly I beg you... Can... Umm, does she speak a little?"

I glared at her. When I saw how she shook, I decided to calm down a bit. I closed my eyes, calming my rage.

"Yes. Occasionally, she can make short sentences. It will require her to break the words down, but she can manage."

"Then that means if she can get to that point, she will be able to speak." She said. "Alpha Devon, the girl... She is strong-willed. She wants to speak too. If not, she would not make effort to speak. If she can be guided carefully, she will speak sooner than we all expect."

I scoffed. Guided carefully? Was I supposed to teach her to speak? The least I could do was ensure she would train every day. Especially on the days when I wasn't around, like today.

"Is... Is that all you came for?" She asked.

I wondered if I should tell her about my few hours of illness. How would she take it? Most especially, who was that girl, Candice?

"Yes. That's all I came for." I said. "Do you have anything else for me?"

She shook her head quickly. "not at all sir. I will walk you out." She offered.

"Nonsense!" I exclaimed. "I will see myself out."

She nodded rather quickly and I knew she hoped for me to turn her offer down. I smirked as I stood up to leave. Just as I opened the door, I found Candice pacing outside the office.

"Are you okay?" I asked. My voice had come out softer than I intended and I hoped she would not take the wrong initiative, not like I cared anyway.

"Yes, my Lord." She answered demurely. "I'm fine, I just wanted to see Doctor Susan."

"You work here?" I asked. The girl seemed too excited that I spoke to her.

"Yes my Lord, I work here." She answered, smiling sweetly.

Her smile just naturally seemed to turn me off and I turned and walked away.
