Sweet and Heavenly

"Hi, can I please get two scoops of strawberry and a scoop of salted caramel ice cream? Thank you."

OJ reached for his wallet as the vendor prepared their ice creams. It only took a few seconds for the object to return, two ice creams in hand, as he quickly paid for them and took them back to where Paper was sitting.

He perked up when he saw the ice creams, gladly taking his own before realising something.

"Oh, did you... not want as much?"

OJ looked back at his own ice cream, nodding along.

"Yeah, I don't usually eat two scoops... it becomes too much for me then."

Paper tilted his head a little at that, like it was the first time he'd heard this information... which it honestly might've been. They still hadn't gone out too often, after all. Had they even ever stopped for ice cream together?-

"Oh... well. That's good to know."

Paper began to peacefully eating his ice cream, not a care in the world, as he got up to walk beside OJ, who was eating his own at a much slower pace. It was still quite delicious, though, he enjoyed salted caramel quite a bit-

Until he brought the cone to his mouth again and found that he was licking nothing but air... looking down at his feet to find that the remains of his scoop were lost to the grass.

"...Oh."

It didn't bother him too much. It was a shame to waste the ice cream, but it wasn't like they could do anything about it.

Until, of course, Paper just had to be a sweetheart and hold out his own for him to take.

"No, I couldn't-"

"Shut up and take my ice cream. Yours fell on the floor, and you didn't even have one full scoop! I've already eaten most of mine anyway..."

Paper looked absolutely determined to hand OJ that ice cream, wearing a certain concentrated, unshakable look that OJ could recognise from a mile away.

"Okay... okay... fine..."

His face instantly morphed into a warm smile as OJ took the ice cream from his hands... how does he shift moods so quickly?

"Great! Now come on, let's head back, yeah?"

"Yeah."

Paper's gaze wandered around the park as they walked, just taking everything in with an innocent smile. He looked absolutely mesmerised, his eyes focusing on the trees that littered the area, the robins and sparrows that flew by...

OJ couldn't find his eyes wandering at all, completely fixated on his partner. God... how did Paper manage to fall in love with him?

He was... so charming, so selfless, so thoughtful... and practically the only thing keeping him sane in their hotel. And he was just... a boring, average, run-of-the-mill object. Paper had become like OJ's other half... his anchor, his guiding light, his everything...

And in the afternoon sunlight, with the sun bouncing off his page in just the right way, he really did look like an angel. A perfect paper angel...

OJ couldn't take his eyes off of him, not even for a second...

...Until he found his foot stepping in a wet pile of ice-cold goop.
