OJ had finally finished up managing the hotel for the day, a proud smile on his face as he left his office. Today was alright, nothing exciting or horrible had happened. One of the calmer days he's had in quite a while...
He headed off to his room, opening the door very, very slowly as to not disturb his love, who was likely-
...Oh. No, he was wide awake. Staring out of the window, with a fond, distant look in his eyes.
He walked up to their bed, giving Paper a slight tap on the shoulder, startling him a little.
"Ah! Oh... hi 'JJ."
"Mm... hey there. Whatcha thinking about?"
Paper turned towards him, a soft, loving smile on his face.
"Well... I was thinking about going stargazing once you finished up with work."
OJ hummed a little to himself, giving him an approving nod as he spoke again, his voice barely above a whisper.
"...Why didn't you call me when you had the idea? I would've come earlier. It's probably freezing cold outside by now."
Paper pondered the thought for a few moments, before shrugging the idea off.
"Eh... I didn't want to disturb you. And besides, the later it gets, the prettier they look."
OJ sighed to himself, turning to the window again, before nodding and popping his cork in his glass.
"Alright, then... but we should still bring a blanket."
Paper shuffled out of the bed, as OJ neatly folded up the blanket, gently sliding his hand in his partner's.
They made their way downstairs, slow and steady, being hit with the bitter chill of the harsh, night breeze the moment they set foot outside.
OJ carefully led Paper over to the cliff, a content little smile on his face as they walked. It was completely silent; no other soul was awake by now... not even much of the wildlife around here. It was just the faint noise of their breathing, the sounds of the grass shuffling beneath their feet, and the occasional hum of the wind whipping by.
Paper always loved these moments with OJ. They always felt so personal, so private, so intimate... and he always made sure to cherish moments like these. His soul felt warm; even though his body shivered from the cold.
OJ laid out the blanket on the grass once they reached the top of the hill, snuggling under it as he felt the lush grass beneath him. Paper wasted no time getting under it with him, the proximity warming him up fairly quickly.
"It's soft... hasn't been cut for a while."
Paper nodded along absentmindedly, though it wasn't what he was really focused on. He shuffled closer to his lover, quickly clinging on tight to his glass with all his strength. So much so that he was starting to wrap around him. He loved being so close to his everything. All those twinkling stars beyond their world were beautiful... but...
"Mm... I thought you wanted to go stargazing?"
OJ teased, one of those smug grins on his face as he wrapped his arms around his partner.
"I am."
"You haven't looked at the sky once."
"The stars aren't only in the sky, sunshine... there's one right next to me."
Paper took the slightly surprised flush on OJ's face as a sign of victory. Sure, OJ was often on top of absolutely everything; but whenever Paper got the upper hand, or said something he wouldn't expect, he would completely crumble under him. Even after all this time... it was still adorable.
"Oh, would you shut it..."
"No, no I wouldn't."
OJ rolled his eyes, a light yawn escaping him as his grip on Paper tightened.
They remained like that the whole night; under the distant stars, cuddled up in a tight, cosy embrace.
This was their home; and they wouldn't change a thing.
