The air was thick with dust and silence.

Zariyah Miller adjusted the lantern in her grip, its flickering light casting twisted shadows across the crumbling monastery walls. The space was ancient, forgotten—but not empty.

She had been in ruins before. She had seen history buried under time. But this was different.

Her fingers brushed against a stone pedestal, its surface too smooth, too cold for something untouched for centuries. And at its center lay the manuscript.

It shouldn’t be here.

The leather cover was cracked with age, but beneath her lantern’s glow, something pulsed—a faint, eerie shimmer running through the ink like a heartbeat.

She swallowed hard. This was impossible.

The legends had always been just that—stories. A manuscript too powerful to read, too dangerous to exist. A relic that could rewrite fate itself.

She reached for it.

The moment her fingers met the cover, the ground trembled. The air shifted, as if the ruins themselves had been holding their breath.

And then—

A whisper. Soft. Indecipherable.

Her heart slammed against her ribs. She wasn’t alone.

Somewhere in the darkness, something moved.

But before the manuscript. Before the whispers. Before she realized history had found her—

Zariyah Miller was just a woman moving into her dream home.

Completely unaware of what was coming next.
