Chapter 4
âNokukhanya Ngwenya
This is witchcraft Iâm telling you. Its been 5 days since I collided with that stupid board and my head bump is still here visible for everyone to look at and laugh at me.
That man in a suitâ¦that sexy man came by to give me back my phone he was the one I bumped to in the club and that was very nice of him to return it. I had wild thoughts about him when he asked me if I was okay I have already pictured us married with kids you know the life us girls dream about but my wild freaky thoughts and fairy tale ending was immediately erased by that ring I saw in his finger. I donât look at married men and I donât date married men. So his picture in my mind was gone. I got so bored that I thank him for my phone and left Cindy to drool over him like I saidâ¦married men do not exist in my life.
The following day I received call a for an interview which is tomorrow and Iâm so excited about it. My first real interview i hope this goes well for me because I need a break.
Cindy is doubtful about this so we are going check out the company after work she asked Jabu to drive us there since Vic has been missing in action since the skinny Jean dilemma.
âThe company exists itâs legit.â She says sounding very happy and excited the minute we parked in front of it.
âSo does this head bump⦠the interview is tomorrow Cindy and this shit is still here.â I whine making Jabu laugh.
âYou do look cute nge poyoyo.â Jabu teases me and he gets a hit on his shoulders while laughing at me.
âDonât mind him⦠it will be gone tomorrow.â
âI donât think soâ¦My life is ruined!â
âStop being a drama queen! You are going for the interview tomorrow bump or bump. Babe letâs go home.â She says.
âYes Mamâ¦â
Ooh God I wish it was that simple. Cindy doesnât know what this means to me this can be my big breakâ¦the one Iâve been praying for and to say she has been ignoring me about her leaving me is also getting to me her words was âletâs worry about the interview now and we will talk after itâ When I asked her what she meant.
.
.
Iâm early! Even the lady at the reception is not here as yet. Iâm an hour early this good on my side but I hope I donât look desperate with this stupid head bump on my forehead.
This is a beautiful reception area. Simply decorated with its white and grey colours yet so elegant and sophisticated.
âGood morning⦠can I help you?.â I turn to look at who is greeting me with this sexy voice I remember this voiceâ¦Its him. I want to roll my eyes at him for being married but I donât.
âGood morningâ¦Iâm here for my interview but I think Iâm a bit early. Do you work here as well?â
When I googled this company there wasnât any photos for the employees and the management. Their fucken website chowed my data for nothing Iâm still mad about that and I feel like I need to be reimbursed for wasting my time. What does he do here he looks like those big shot supervisors or a manager. But never judge a book by its cover who knows he can be a cleaner here.
âThe earliest bird catches the fattest worm so they say and I do work here as well. Have you had any coffee as yet?â
âNo thank you but Iâll pass I donât want to be running to the loo during my interview.â I say and laugh. Shit Iâm being weird right now.
âUhmâ¦okay. Good luck with your interview.â
âThank you.â I respond to him smiling and he walks away leaving me checking him outâ¦what a sexy ass.
Nokukhanya stop! Heâs married snap out of it!
âLike what you see.â Says a human dollâ¦all perfectly dressed In formal she over did the make-up though but I wish she could teach me how to do my brows like hersâ¦perfectly drawn!
âExcuse me?â
âNothing. Good morning you must be Nokukhanya Ngwenya correct?â¦here please fill this in and I will let Mr Gumede know you are here.â
âI thought my interview was with Mrs Celeâ¦the email said that.â
She ignores me and dial on her phone. This bitch just ignored me. I hand over the form once Iâm done and wait for Barbie doll here to let me know what she wants from me.
âPlease go to the elevatorâ¦last floor the lady thereâ¦Her name is Fikile will show you Mr Gumede's office then you can proceed to Mrs Cele from there.â
I nod and walk away. Thereâs no need to say thank you to her after the way she just treated me.
Receptionist can be very unnecessarily rude sometimes.
âLanga Gumede
Sheâs early and sheâs more beautiful than the last time I saw her even with that bump on her forehead. I hope she doesnât mess this up because a sight of her everyday will surely brighten up my day. Something about her though that doesnât sit right with me she doesnât look taken by my charm and looks like the rest of them.
âMr Gumede good morning. Someone is here for you should I let her in itâs the lady for the interview.â
âNo! Uhm let them interview her first then she can see me afterwards. I want to talk to Joyce before she does the interview though and I want to talk to my brother as well please.â
âOkay sir.â Fikile drops the call and i stand up to go look outside to calm my suddenly pounding heart. Why am I nervous.
âYou wanted to see me?â
âYou need to learn to knock before you let yourself in.â
âSorry. I ...â
âIts fine. Where were you? You didnât come home last night.â
âLanga you need to understand that Iâm grown up now you cant worry about me all the time.â I sigh in frustration. Linda is the only person I worry about. He goes out every night and I donât want to lose him like I lost my girls.
âI know that but I would really appreciate it if you let me know where you are.â
âOkay. It wont happen again. Can I go back to work now.â I nod and he walks out but returns back in again like he just saw a ghost.
âWhatâs wrong?â
âIs that table girl sitting there or my mind is playing tricks on me?â
Table girl?
âWho?â
âThat girl who was dancing in the club that other dayâ¦she is fine!â
No no no no! Linda must stay away from her.
âYou know me and my friends weâve been going back there hoping we will bump into her or somethingâ¦sheâs a whole mood.â
âGet back to work Linda and stay away from her!â I didnât mean to raise my voice like this.
âOkay okay fine Iâm going. Geez! There was no need to raise your voice.â
.
.
âJoice I said I wanted to see you before the interview not after the interview.â
âYour PA didnât tell me that.â Damn! I wish people can listen to what I tell them.
âHow was is? Is she getting the job?â
âSheâs good butâ¦â
âBut what?â She deeply takes a huge breath and looks at me. This isnât good.
âSheâs very good but do we need another Linda here? Your brother is enough and two of them of the same kind ⦠I donât know if we can handle that.â
Shit!
âMrs Cele let me meet her and I will decide. If you were impressed by her CV without knowing her thatâs means there something there and you cant penalised her because of her personality thatâs not how we do things here.â
âI know Iâm sorry.â
âYou can leave I will meet her and get back to you.â
Dammit! This woman will ruin my plans and what does she mean when she said she is another Linda. She cant be that worse.
I walked out from my office and find Fikile talking on the phone and her sitting by the couch also on her phone. Fikile is behaving very weird lately. I went back to my office with neither of them noticing me. I called my PA.
âYes Mr Gumede?â
âIâm ready for Miss Ngwenya . Fikile let her come in.â
Thereâs a slight knock on the door before Fikile appears and tells her to come in. I turn my attention to her as she walks in my office. Should I meet her half way? No let me just stand here so she can come to me.
Eyes widen. She looks surprised to see me. Good.
âHolly Shit.â She says softly as she walks to my desk but I heard her and I will just pretend like I did not hear it.
âMiss Ngwenya once again good morning.â I extend my hand to her for a handshake and she nervously accepts.
âGood morning.â
âPlease take a seat. Would you like something to drink?â
âThank you and no Iâm still fine thanx.â She says politely as she sits down making her dress go up a bit. Dammit I didnât mean for my eyes to travel to her thighs.
âI have already met up with my team and had feedback regarding your interview now tell me how was the experience? Were the questions okay with you?â
âIt was a nice experience and the questions were okay too.â I raise my eyebrow at her.
âJust okay?â
âYes. I thought interviews were very hard you know. But the questions she was asking didnât require me to use my brains. It was like she wanted me gone.â
âWhy is that.?â I ask raising my eyebrows.
âDid I say that out loud?â She whispers that more to herself.
Dammit! Another Linda!
