Angel

After having an amazing morning opening up gifts and spending time with each other, Rudy called Stephanie saying that they were having Christmas at her Aunt Rain house at 3:00.

We got there at 4 and we've been having a blast ever since. The house was packed with all of Steph's family; her parents even decided to show up.

The food was absolutely amazing. Her family are definitely great cooks; now I see where she gets it from.

After everybody ate, we all danced, sang, and talked. We even reflected over old memories of Stephanie. Everyone was having a great time.

"No y'all forreal listen! She came in the house 38 hot! She was mad as hell! Cause the guh had already got her suspended. Marcus said Rudy made them fight though." Momo exclaimed as she told one of Steph's fighting stories.

Rudy jumped up and pointed his finger at her. "OOOOO MOMO NOW YOU KNOW YOU SITTING HERE TELLING STORIES!" We all laughed.

"That's what he told me!" She chuckled and pointed at Marc. "Nawwwwww I said he boasted it up." Marcus said as he ate a piece of chicken.

"Nigga how you know?! You won enn in dea nigga!" Rudy yelled at him. "Mane you know how them folks talk!"

"Well Rudy how you saw it if you was still a freshman and ain't get to see them like that in school?" Her Uncle Lee spoke up.

"Steph came in my class just to fight the girl! She knew she was in my 3rd period! See this how it happened. The guh was beefing wit her over Trent, but Steph told the guh like 'Bitch you can have him.' Steph won even tripping bout the nigga! The guh was going around school talking about Steph, she was dogging her out too. But Steph was ignoring her ass! Like that's the first time I ever seen her ignore anybody that was messing with her. She was tryna be real mature about it cause for one, that guh was a freshman and Steph was a senior. And two, ain't nobody finna argue over Trent dusty ass anyway." Everybody laughed as he told the story.

"So when we got off the bus, she saw that the guh was talking about her on Facebook! And Steph was like 'Ima beat that bitch up...' But we ain't know Steph was serious!" Rudy exclaimed with his arms open.

"How the hell y'all ain't know if she said it! Y'all should've told me." Momo said and she shook her head.

"Because Momo! Steph was laughing and everything when she said it. You already know how she is when she get mad. She was like 'Haha! I'ma beat that bitch up...'" Everybody busted out laughing at him trying to make his voice sound like Stephanie's.

"Yeah Mo, ween know she was gone do her like that." Kent said shaking his head. "Yeah we thought she was just playing." Marcus said as he got up to through his plate away.

"Right. But when we got to school, Steph was looking for the girl. She was ducking her! I guess she heard that she was looking for her. So we sitting in third period right? And in the middle of class, somebody knock on the door. I look through the lil glass, and it's Steph! I said 'Ohhhhhhhhh shit....' I got nervous as hell!" Kent and Marcus nodded their heads laughing, understanding his nervousness.

"So Ms. Davis was like 'Rudy answer the door! You sitting right by it.' I said 'Nuuuuuuuhhhh Ms. Davis nuhh. I think Ima sit this one out.' So she was like 'Ugh somebody open the door!' This dude named Loco went and answered it. Steph came walking in the room all calm and shit... The guh jumped up talm bout some 'Bitch you looking for me, I'm right here! I'm right here! That's why I took yo man! I took yo man hoe! Yo ugly ass! Bitch you a hoe! He was eating my mmm mm while y'all was together!'" We snickered as he jumped up, using Kent as an example; acting like he was about to fight him.

"So I look at her and I'm like-" He scrunched his face up 'mane Steph you betta slap this hoe mane! I know you yeen finna let her talk to you like that!' Then outta no where, Steph climbed over the desks to where she was and started beating the girl up... Like beating her up. So I'm in the back like 'Yeah! Yeah hoe! Talk all that shit ni! Talk that shit!' And everybody tryna break it up. Not me shid... They must don't know not to mess with Steph while she in the moment like that?" Everybody laughed agreeing with him.

"Oh I know it first hand.." Dave said shaking his head.

"SHE GOT YOU TOO?!" Deon, Marcus, Kent, Rudy, and Jah asked at the same time. "Shit she done got me plenty of times." Jah mumbled putting his cup up to his lips.

"But Steph kept going though. Like she wouldn't stop. She was stomping on the guh! It was getting so bad that I had to pull her off and carry her outside. And I'm in her face like 'Mane Steph what's wrong witchu?! Why you ain't just wait until after school! These folks finna suspend you mane! You just might go to jail!' 'Mane Rudy I told that hoe! I told her to stop fuckin wit me!' She was crying and shit. Steph used to be real life crazy, like forreal."

They carried the conversation on, but I felt someone tap me. It was Dave. "Aye Angel, take our picture." He said as he handed me his phone.

"Ughhhh! Come on." He cheesed as I snatched his phone out his hand and got up. Him and Jd posed. "And I'm only taking one." I said getting an attitude.

"Man come on!" Jd said irritated. "Alright alright! ONE... TWO..." I snapped the picture.

"Damn what happened to three?!" They said in unison. I shrugged my shoulders and they sucked their teeth.

Jaceyon mushed my head playfully and went back over to Steph. "I'm sick of yo lil attitude." Dave pointed his finger in my face.

He leaned down to my ear. "I can fix that though.." He gripped my thigh as he whispered in my ear.

Even though chills went through my body, I swatted him off like a fly. "Nigga gone!" He sat down next to me and kissed my cheek.

Every since last night, Dave's been more... Hmm... Touchy-feely with me... More than usual...

I looked over at Jd and Stephanie.

"Pretty brown eyes, you know I see you. It's a disguise the way you treat meeeee. You keep holding on to your thoughts of rejection. If you're with me you're securrrrreed!" She held his face as they sang along with the music to each other.

I couldn't help but smile at how in love they are, and it definitely shows. I don't care how bad my love life may be, I'm going to be happy for my friend.

I remember when she used to call me in tears because she hadn't heard from Glenn in weeks and she couldn't figure out what she was doing wrong. I'd then tell her she didn't do anything wrong and how amazing she is. I'd go over to her house and spend the night and bake her as many brownies and cookies as she wanted; we would stay up late binge watching series on Netflix and trying out different makeup looks on each other.

She deserves to be happy, and I'll be right here supporting her through every step of the way.

Stephanie

I sat down in the bar stool as Jaceyon held my hand. He stood over me and kissed my forehead.

"Bear, you hot? Want me to tell T Rain to turn the heat down?" I dabbed the beads of sweat on his forehead. "No no baby, I'm nervous..." He said getting fidgety.

I furrowed my eyebrows and chuckled. I've never seen him like this. "Nigga, nervous for what?" "I don't know Baby.. Just- just keep patting me." He took my hands and placed them on his head.

"Okay Babe, okay." I laughed as he put his head in my neck and held onto my waist. I rubbed his back. "Awe Bear.. What's wrong?" I frowned and he pulled back.

The music turned down and I looked around. Everyone had their phones out.

The fuck is going on?...

He looked me directly in the eyes as he got down on one knee; Everyone gasped and I put my hands over my mouth as he reached into his pockets, pulling out two reds boxes.

I began to cry. I know he's not about to do what I think he's about to do...

"Stephanie, when you first came into my life, I knew I wanted to be with you for the rest of my life. It was something about you that left me wanting more... I never told you this, but the night I got shot, I was on my way to your house to get you back. I'll be the first man to admit that a fat ass caught my attention, but never made me faithful. A pretty face got me to commit, but it never changed me. It was you, the funny girl with that beautiful personality, million dollar smile, and a heart of gold that left me in tears begging for a second chance. I fell in love with you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I know I said that the third ring you got would be your wedding ring, but I wanted to surprise you."

Everyone screamed as he opened the boxes up revealing the most beautiful rings I've ever seen...

"Stephanie Kairi Latamore, will you marry me?" I shut my eyes tight and broke down hearing everyone cheer and scream. I opened them back up.

"Yes Jaceyon... Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!!!" I managed to get out during my sobbing.

I held my hands out and he took my heart ring off my finger. Angel came over and took it. He then took the pear shaped ring and slid it on the ring finger of my right hand. He took the ring with the yellow diamond and placed it on the ring finger of my left hand.

Everyone in the house cheered and clapped as he got off his knee. He grabbed my face and pecked my lips. "I love you Bear..." I said with my eyes closed.

"I love you more Bug." He pecked my lips again.

Out of the corner of my eye, I seen my parents walk out the door.

"LET ME SEE THEM RINGS BITCHHH!!!" Angel yelled and everybody ran up to me with their cameras still on.

I cheesed and held my hands out proudly. "YESSSSSSSSS!" Everybody exclaimed and laughed.

Momo came over and hugged me tightly. "I'm so happy for you Momo baby... I can't believe you finna get married! And he did such a good job... I love him for you mama..." She said crying; that made me cry. Out of all my years of living, I've rarely seen my grandmother cry... She was a strong woman.

I buried my head in her chest and held her.

"YEAH NIGGA THATS WHAT IM TALKIN BOUT! MY NIECE GETTING MARRIED!" Deon yelled as he slapped Jd's hand.

"My nigga doing it! I'm proud of you boy!" Dave said and he hugged him.

Something then came to my mind.. "Did y'all know about this?" I asked them.

"We all knew!" Angel, Marcus, Kent, Dave, Rudy, and Deon said in unison.

I shook my head and let out an excited scream. "I can't believe we're getting married!" I jumped on Jaceyon and he caught me smiling.

"No yo face though! You really didn't see it coming?" Dave asked Stephanie as we walked into her parents house laughing, reflecting on the wonderful night we had.

"No! I really didn't! I'm still in shock..." She held her hands out, staring at her rings.

"Y'all I'm thirsty.." I whined. "Me too... Let's get some to drink." Steph led us to the kitchen.

When we walked in, we immediately stopped what we were doing, seeing that her mother and father were standing there. "STEPHANIE WHAT THE FUCK HAS GOTTEN INTO YOU?!" Tina slammed her hand down on the counter.

"What do you mean?" She asked genuinely puzzled. "YOU CANT MARRY THIS MAN! YOU CANT AND YOU WONT! WE WONT ALLOW IT!" She screamed at her.

Stephanie scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Are y'all serious right now? Y'all still on this?"

"YOU DONT EVEN KNOW THIS MAN! YOU MIGHT AS WELL SAY YALL JUST MET!" Her father yelled at her.

"WHATEVER HAPPENED TO GLENN? HMM? THAT MAN LOVED YOU! WE JUST TALKED TO HIM LAST WEEK! HE SAID HE WANTED TO SURPRISE YOU!" Tina threw her arms in the air.

"Surprise me for what?!" Steph mugged them.

"He said y'all hadn't talked in a while and he wanted to go by your house and surprise you but you had moved and he didn't know where you lived!" As soon as those words left Tina's lips, my heart (and I'm sure everyone else's) dropped...

"W-wait... Y'all told him where I lived?..." Stephanie pointed at herself. "Yes we did! Why is that a problem?!"

"O-Oh my God...." She whispered almost falling. Me and Jd rushed over to her and quickly caught her. Dave pulled out the bar stool from under the island with Kai still in his arms.

"Baby come on, sit down.." He said as we sat her down in the chair. I ran to the refrigerator and grabbed her bottle of water. I opened it and put it up to her lips.

She gulped it and took a deep breath. "Ma, what address did y'all use when y'all told him that?" She asked them softly.

"The one that you sent your father's birthday card from! Why?!" She furrowed her eyebrows at her.

Antwon walked over to Jaceyon. "And you! You didn't ask me for my daughter's hand in marriage! I wouldn't dare let my daughter be with a THUG like you..." He looked at him in disgust and Jd mugged him.

David carefully put Kairi in my arms. "Hold up, don't get in his face..." He pulled his pants up and looked down at Antwon.

"WHY CANT YALL JUST BE HAPPY FOR ME?!" Stephanie yelled on the verge of tears.

"BECAUSE YOU'RE MAKING THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF YOUR LIFE! THIS MAN IS 12 YEARS OLDER THAN YOU! HE'S IGNORANT, GHETTO, AND A THUG!" Tina spat at her.

"I am NOT a little girl anymore! Neither one of you can control my life anymore! I AM A GROWN WOMAN! I PAY MY OWN BILLS, AND THE LAST TIME I CHECKED, I WAS PAYING YALLS TOO." She said as she rolled her neck.

"EXCUSE ME?!" They exclaimed in unison.

Stephanie got up, walked over to them, and got in their her faces. "YALL JUST HATE THE FACT THAT IM HAPPY! AND THATS PROBABLY WHY YALL WANTED ME TO BE WITH GLENN! YALL KNEW HE TREATED ME BAD! HE TREATED ME LIKE SHIT! JUST LIKE YALL DID!"

Steph held her face, in total shock after her mother slapped her...

She drew her hand back and slapped Tina 10 times harder than she slapped her, making her stumble back.

We gasped as Antwon slapped Stephanie, making her fall to the ground. "DONT YOU EVER RAISE YOUR HAND TO YOUR MOTHER!"

My blood began to boil seeing blood trickle from her lip.

Jaceyon quickly made his way over to him and punched him making him fall on the wooden table. He eventually fell to the floor, taking the table with him.

Dave ran over to him and they began to jump him. Tina began to hit Dave repeatedly in his back. "GET OFF OF HIM!" She yelled.

I laid Kairi in Steph's arms. I pulled Tina back by her hair. I threw her across the room. She ran up and swung on me, but I dodged it and punched her in her eye. She instantly stopped fighting me and held it.

"Come on bitch! Wassup?!" I said and punched her again, but this time in her nose.

"STOP! EVERYBODY STOP IT!" I heard Stephanie screamed. We all stopped and looked at her.

She walked over and placed Kairi back into my arms. "I'm just got engaged to the love of my life not even 3 hours ago and neither one of you at least said congratulations. After all you've done to me, y'all never apologized abusing me my entire childhood. You don't want me to be happy, that's very clear. Come on y'all. I can't stay in this house another second..."

We all walked out the kitchen and headed up to the rooms to get our things. "YEAH BITCH THATS RIGHT! GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY HOUSE! WE DONT WANT YOU HERE ANYWAY! YOU CANT BE OUR CHILD! WE COULDN'T HAVE MADE A GHETTO ASS BITCH LIKE YOU!" Antwon yelled after her.

At the top of stairs, Steph stopped and turned around. "I WILL!!! THE WHITE MAN CAN COME TAKE ALL YALL SHIT AND EVICT YALL MOTHERFUCKIN ASSES FOR ALL I CARE! IM NOT SENDING YALL ANOTHER MOTHERFUCKIN DIME! YALL HOES CAN SIT HERE IN THE FUCKIN DARK! I SAW THEM FUCKIN PAST DUE BILLS SITTING ON THE COUNTER! LETS SEE WHO GONE HELP YALL NOW BITCH! I DONT EVER HAVE TO SPEAK TO YALL AGAIN!" She started to walk off, but turned back around.

We got checked into our rooms and wasted no time going up to them. Jaceyon unlocked the door and I rushed in, throwing myself face first on the bed.

I heard the door click and shuffling after.

Jaceyon took my shoes off and rubbed my feet a little. He came up and tugged at my pants. I lifted my body up helping him slide my pants and panties off.

I just got done bathing and feeding Kairi and put her down for bed. She's a good baby and sleeps throughout the night so she shouldn't wake up again until the morning.

I was laying down, scrolling through Instagram when I heard a knock on my door.

I furrowed my brows and got up to answer it. I stood on my tippy toes to look through the peephole. It was David...

I opened the door and he walked in. "David, what are you doing here?" I asked shutting it. He hugged me from behind and wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Angel, I want you and Kairi to come sleep with me." He mumbled into my ear.

I scoffed. "I don't think so." "Why not?" He placed soft pecks on my neck.

"We slept with you last night David! You don't remember that?" I asked him sharply. "Yeah I do but-"

"But what?!"

"Angel please.... I need you..." He hugged my waist tighter. I began to become frustrated and pushed his arms off of me.

After all this time, he still can't see me...

"You need me? You need me? David I needed you! When Amir raped me, I needed you! I called for you.. I called you for help.. And you left me there, just like how my mother used to do... When I found out I was pregnant and though it was Amir's, I needed you! You left me  for someone else, and not to mention proposing to them, because I rejected you because I wasn't ready! It didn't have anything to do with you!" Tears cascaded down my face as I poured my thoughts and feelings out to him.

"ANGEL WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO?! WAIT ON YOU FOREVER?! YOU TURNED ME DOWN MULTIPLE TIMES!" His face turned bright red as he yelled back at me.

"I WASN'T READY DAVID! WHY CANT YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?!"

"I do! And I did! What about me?! I needed you too! You left me for Amir Angel! That hurt me! I was the happiest man on earth when I was with you! I was in love with you Angel! I still am! You hurt me too.." He then began to cry.

"I APOLOGIZED FOR THAT! I TRIED TO COME BACK TO YOU BUT YOU DIDN'T WANT ME! I WASN'T RIGHT MENTALLY DAVID! YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE LEFT ME ALONE WITH HIM!"

"WHY WOULD I HAVE STAYED WITH YOU?! IM NOT ANYONES BACK UP PLAN ANGEL!" The words that flowed from his lips pierced my heart.

"Wow.... You're not anyone's back up plan... Well if you're not anyone's back up plan, then why should I be yours?" I opened up the door.

"Get out David. We'll coparent for Kairi, but other then her... We don't have anything else to speak about. We don't even have to be friends." He slowly walked out it and looked at me. I slammed it his face.

I put my back against the door and slowly made my way down to the floor, finding myself in the same position I was in the night Amir told me he was leaving me for Taylor.

I pushed my knees up to my chest and laid my head on them.

The familiar feeling of heartache that I felt 24/7 with Amir, the feeling that David took away, came right back.

Why is this happening to me? Is God punishing me? What am I doing wrong?

I burst into tears, feeling myself become light headed.

It's crazy how I was at my lowest point 2 years ago and I find myself right back to that point that I promised myself to never go back to again...
