Angel

It's been a whole month since I found out I was pregnant, and I'm falling more in love with it everyday. I made a promise to myself that I would enjoy/embrace this pregnancy and this baby.

I've been catching myself a lot on Instagram accounts dedicated to babies and looking at all the cute little human beings. I'm ready for this. I want it all.

With the miscarriage I had last year, I was hurt that something I dearly wanted was taken away from me. And by me saying that I didn't want this baby was completely selfish of me.

I'm not far along at all, but I'm going to enjoy every single second of it. I've been capturing and noticing how my body is changing. My stomach is still a little flat, but I can't wait until my belly is so big that I can't see my feet.

Me and David only talk about the baby. Nothing more, nothing less. We don't see each other or talk like we used to. I try not to think about it to much.

I've been talking to Mama Faye and we've gotten more pieces for my line done. We've perfected a few things and it's really coming along well. It's been so therapeutic for me, especially with everything that been going on.

Once she found out about my pregnancy, she jumped up and down yelling "IMA BE A GRANDMA BITCH!"

I also told her about it being Amir's and not David's but she didn't care. She said it was still her grand baby and that's not going to make her treat it any differently. I'm just happy that her and David took it so well...

Stephanie's been such a great help. She's been making sure I'm eating right and taking all my vitamins.

Her and Jd are kind of getting serious but she won't admit it. Steph's always been a player.

Work for me has been great. It takes my mind off of a lot of things. Right now, I'm on my lunch break, eating a salad.

I looked at my watch: 12:57 PM. I got up, threw my trash away, and gulped down the rest of the water.

I walked back to the nurses station.

"Good Afternoon Nurse Beverly!" I smiled.

"Mmm, hey. What you so happy for?" She asked, typing on the computer.

"Huh? What do you mean?" I asked confused.

She looked up at me. "You know. 'Hehehe Good afternoon'" She cheesed copying me.

We both laughed. "I don't know. I'm just happy to be here I guess.." "Mmhmm."

I looked around. "Where's Stephanie?" She waved me. "Girl idk hell. Her ass probably in the damn janitors closet talking on the phone."

I chuckled. "Well yeah probably."

"Her ass need to come out of there so I can go in there." She said pointing at herself. "I got somebody I need to take care of." She said smirking.

"Now that's just fucking nasty Nurse Beverly." Stephanie said coming up behind us and sitting down in the chair next to nurse Beverly.

"What shit?! It ain't my fault Dr. Bryant keep coming back for more..."

"You a old freaky bitch." Stephanie said while eating her candy bar.

"Ya mama." She retorted back.

"Whatever."

"Ooh Steph give me a piece!" I said trying to take the candy out of her hands.

"Girl hell naw!" "Bitch gimme a piece yo stingy as-" In the middle of our argument, we were cut off by someone yelling.

"WE HAVE A GUN SHOT VICTIM THATS BEEN WOUNDED IN THE CHEST! COME ON TEAM MOVE!" Dr. Bryant yelled.

We all got up and rushed to him. Some went down the hall to get the room ready for surgery. People were running everywhere.

"ANGEL GO UP TO THE ROOF AND ROLL HIM IN WITH THE REST OF THE TEAM. STAY BY HIS SIDE AND KEEP HIM CALM! STEPHANIE AND BEVERLY GO WITH THE OTHER NURSES TO GET THE ROOM READY."

"Yes sir." We said in unison.

I ran down the hall and to the stairs; the elevator would take to long.

Once I got to the roof, the wind of the helicopter almost pulled me back. I ran to it.

The crew was getting him off and pulling the stretcher down. "Josh how is he?" I asked one of my coworkers.

"He's critical. He's not looking to good. But we have to keep him calm..."

We held on to the stretcher and rolled him into the elevator. He was a black man. Preferably about 180 pounds. He was breathy heavily. I grabbed a hold of is hand.

"Sir what is your name?" I asked him.

"Chauncey..." He said softly.

"My my name is Nurse Angel. You're now in a hospital and you've been shot. Are you aware of that?" He nodded his head.

"Angel, Angel I'm scared..." He said with tears falling out of his eyes.

I looked into his eyes. "Listen to me. There's nothing to be afraid of. I'm going to do everything I can for you, okay?" I assured him.

"Do you have kids?" He asked me.

"Not yet but I am pregnant." He smiled up at me. "That's- that's great..." We both laughed a little while I nodded my head.

"Be a great mother. Kids need their mothers... Don't fail your kid. Make sure you tell them you love them and show them. Never neglect them. Tell my kids that I love them... And I'm sorry for failing them..." More tears fell out of his eyes and by now, they were falling out of mine too.

"Everything's going to be okay..." I said crying.

"Can you pray and repent with me? Please?" I nodded my head and closed my eyes.

"Lord I repent of all the sin in my life. I repent of the sins that I know of, and the sins that I don't know of. If there is any sin that I don't know of, please bring it to my mind that I may repent. Please forgive me Lord of any pride, rebellion, vanity, jealousy, judging, distrust, prejudice, dishonesty, theft, greed, spiritual adultery or fornication, or any spiritual murder. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Please forgive me if there is any refusal or inability to forgive others. Please help me forgive as you forgive. I thank you Lord for washing me clean with the blood of Jesus Christ. I thank you Lord for creating in me a clean heart and renewing a right spirit within me, a spirit that will worship you, glorify you, and serve you for the rest of my life. In the name of Jesus Ch-" We both said at same time, but all of a sudden, he stopped...

I opened my eyes to see his rolling to the back of his head.

"No, NO! COME ON FIGHT!" Just as I said that, he closed them.

The elevator dinged open and the crew rushed him down the hall to surgery. I walked out the elevator and watched them.

Stephanie ran down the hall to me.

"Hey. Hey. You okay?" She asked me.

"I told him everything was gonna be okay and I just watched him die..." I said crying. She just pulled me into a tight hug as I cried in her chest.

Something about that man was different. We see things like this all the time. But he made me realize how short and valuable life is...

I stared at Dave's building. After everything that happened today, I decided to go to his house and talk to him. I don't want to die like that man did earlier. I didn't want to die sad or with my heart heavy.

I got out the car and made my way up.

I knocked on his door waiting for it to open. I heard shuffling on the other side.

When it opened, a pretty light skinned girl appeared. She kind of looks like Christina Milian... She turned her face up looking at me.

I decided to give her a smile back. "Um, hi! Is David here?" I asked. She scoffed.

"Who's asking."

"Well I'm Angel... I was looking for him."

"Oh so you the baby mama he told me about? You don't look pregnant to me." She said pointing at me. "Yeah he here."

"Well can I speak with him please?" I asked in the nicest voice possible.

"Nah. But I'll relay the message though."

I laughed lightly. I just gave up.

"Um okay. Can you tell him that the appointment is Thursday at 3:15?"

"Mhm."

I smiled. "Okay, thanks! Nice to me-" She slammed the door in my face, cutting my words off.

Don't get upset. Don't get upset.

I stared at the door for a while and chuckled a little.

He sure knows how to pick them huh.
