Chapter 30

Falling for the Mafia Brothers767 words~4 min read

“What’s the plan for Mike?” Kyle asked the brothers.

They were currently halfway through the trip home, and Kyle still didn’t believe Mike did it.

“We need to find out why. I think he was probably offered something. He wasn’t there last night, so Anatoli hasn’t been able to confront him, but I asked him to join us for dinner.”

Max was disappointed. Even though they put Mike on the list of people they couldn’t trust, he was hoping Mike would prove them wrong.

Mike had been a good friend over the years, and Max wanted to trust him.

“I realize that I don’t know your men like you and Dimitri do, but from my interactions with Mike, he’s loyal. You should approach this by asking questions and not going straight for violence.”

“Which is why he’s coming over for dinner, little bee. Dimitri and I are taking your opinions into consideration; we know that you see things we may not.”

“Thank you,” Kyle said as she leaned her head on him.

By the time they made it home, it was early afternoon. Kyle had some time to spare, and she was hoping to catch up with Varina.

Varina was staying in a guest room in the house, so Kyle decided to see if she was home, but as he approached the door, he ran into her brother leaving Varina’s room.

“I knew it!” Kyle yelled at her brother.

Her brother’s face became flushed. “Don’t say anything to Max and Dimitri.”

“They won’t mind, Ryan. They’re more laid-back than you give them credit for, and I think they’ll be okay with this.”

“Just let us tell them when we are ready.”

“No worries, I will.”

Kyle said goodbye to her brother and knocked on Varina’s door.

“So, I just caught my brother leaving your room.”

Varina smiled at Kyle.

“You don’t mind, do you?”

“Why would I care? I’m happy. I like you, and I think you’ll be good for Ryan.”

Varina let out a sigh of relief. She liked Ryan and didn’t want to cause an issue with Kyle.

“How did last night go?” Varina asked Kyle, hoping to change the subject.

“It was bittersweet. My father didn’t show up at my location, but Dimitri and I kind of made up.”

“So, he stopped being stupid?”

“He’s not stupid; he’s afraid and confused, and he just needs some time.”

Kyle spent the afternoon with Varina, and it felt as if she were spending time with a sister. It took her mind off Mike and her father, and she felt relaxed enough to deal with dinner.

Dinner was served quietly, and Kyle felt bad for Mike because he had no idea what was coming, and the fact he’d brought Sarah with him made it worse.

“We asked you here for a reason, Mike.” Dimitri started the conversation, which made Kyle more relaxed because Dimitri was the calmer one.

“Is there something you need?” Mike asked.

“Actually, we want to know why you were giving Ivanov information about us.” Max’s tone was full of anger and worried Kyle.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Max.”

“Don’t fucking play games, Mike. We told people different meeting places to see who would leak the information, and they showed up at the meeting place we told you.”

Mike stood up, and Kyle could tell that Mike was offended by the accusation.

“The only person I said anything to was Sarah, and I’m not fucking lying to you.”

There was silence at the table, and Kyle took her chance.

“Sarah, would you like to add anything or explain what we are missing?” Kyle had a feeling that Mike was loyal, but she was unsure if Sarah was the guilty one.

Sarah looked at her hands, which were laying in her lap.

“It was me; I gave them the information.”

Everyone was quiet and a bit shocked.

Sarah looked at Mike, and she had tears in her eyes.

“I’m sorry, Mike. I love you, I do. Viktor is my father, and I was sent to gather information, but I met Mike, and I’m afraid of my father, and when I mentioned Kyle to him he got worse.”

“How could you do that to me?” Mike asked Sarah.

“I didn’t have a choice, Mike. Please forgive me. I love you,” she sobbed out.

Kyle was beyond shocked; she was just grabbing at what Mike said about Sarah.

Kyle never thought Sarah would be the guilty one, but what surprised her even more was that Sarah had confessed to being her sister.
