AYSU
Aysu tried to pinch her eyes with the hope that it would be enough to drag her out of that surreal moment, but the more seconds passed, the more Mayanaâs hand felt real to the touch.
âHow come you are here?â Mayana spoke and Aysuâs heart skipped.
âIâ¦â³ She swallowed hard. âI should be asking you that. You just died.â
Mayana sneered. âDo you think I donât know that? Or do you intend to rub the fact that Ximun ended my life in my face?â
âWhy would I? You deserve the death.â Aysu could not believe that Mayana remained gusty with her words even in that situation where nothing was clear. âIf you died, how come we are speaking right now?â
Mayana shrugged. âI donât know. I was told to walk past a door where I would meet a representative of the moon goddess. I really didnât expect to meet you of all people here.â Mayana narrowed her gaze. âHow are you even here?â
âI just held your hand and-â
âWhy the fuck would you hold a dead personâs hand?â Mayana shook her head while Aysu puckered her lips in slight annoyance. âI canât believe how weird you are. Does Ximun know you are this unusual?â
âI guess you are as weird because I am still holding your hand.â Aysu creeped the woman out with that statement and within microseconds, their contact was dissolved, each woman looking anywhere but at each other.
âSo, where is this place?â Mayana asked while her eyes remained on the ground which was made up of nothing but a bright light. âIs this some kind of wolf paradise?â
âYou think you made it to paradise?â Aysu crossed her arms, and at the same time, she decided not to ask questions about the strangeness of that place. âYou killed my unborn baby and almost ended my life.â
âWhy does that count? You stole my man so you deserved that-â
Aysu raised a hand to Mayanaâs face. âStop right there.â A few steps and her eyes were strongly glaring into Mayanaâs. âXimun is rightfully and legally my husband. I agree that things werenât rosy in the start, but he is my mate and will always be.â
âThe-â
âI donât care how much both of you loved each other. The moment you rejected him, that was the end. You donât get to come back while he is with me to claim a right that doesnât exist. You donât get to use your stupidity to create chaos.â Aysu poked the womanâs shoulder. âYou killed my unborn child, and you will be punished for using your emotions in the worst way possible. I donât care if you think otherwise.â
Mayana was a little threatened by Aysuâs words, but she didnât show it for too long. She squared her shoulders and with that pride, she said, âI donât care either.â
âGood.â Aysu walked a few steps back. âRot in hell and make sure you do so for a long time.â
Mayana was about to speak, but the force that brought Aysu into that strange moment dragged her out. And she was soon back in the room she was familiar with, Mayanaâs body still sprawled on the ground.
âMiss Aysu?â The voice of the guard from earlier caused Aysu to drop Mayanaâs hand. âAre you okay?â
With speed, Aysu got to her feet. âHow is Ximun?â
The brow the man lifted came down and he replied, âHis Majesty is still asleep.â
âGood. I will stay with him. Take care of the body.â
âOkay⦠Miss Aysu.â Though silent about it, it was obvious that the man needed answers as to why she was gripping a dead womanâs hand. âI will.â
âI am not weird or something like that,â Aysu added in response. âI just⦠I was just checking something.â
The guard nodded curtly. âAlright, Miss Aysu. Will you need help getting to the Alphaâs chamber?â
âNo. Well,â her eyes squinted as it occurred to her that she easily forgets things, âmaybe not so well. I might struggle a bit.â
âIn that case, I can come with you.â
âHow about the body?â
âI will wrap it up and carry it along.â
âThatâsâ¦â
âInsulting to the soul that just departed?â The man completed and Aysu nodded. âI donât think so. After what she did, she deserves worse.â
As though a weight had been lifted off her, Aysu sighed hard. âShe does, doesnât she?â
With a slight smile, the man headed into the room. âJust give me a few seconds Miss Aysu, I will get the body ready for the short journey.â
âHmm,â hummed Aysu as she found a wall to lean against. She watched as he tore one of the window drapes off and walked to the body. âI donât know your name. I have noticed that you are always with Ximun. You also helped me after that humiliating day in the council room.â
âMy name is Zion, Miss Aysu.â
âZion. It is nice to meet you.â
âLikewise.â He began to wrap the body, each movement punctuated with a woosh sound.
âHow is Gideon and Magnetino? Were they tortured a lot?â
âInitially, they were.â
âHow about now?â
âThey are still detained, but they are doing fine.â
âThatâs assuring. I know it is terrible of me to say this, but I still doubt Ximunâs words.â
âItâs never easy to win a personâs trust especially after the ego has been hurt. I am sure Alpha Ximun understands that much. So, no, you are not a terrible person, Miss Aysu.â
âHmm.â
Once the body was securely wrapped, he carried it effortlessly and hung it over his shoulder. âWe can leave now.â
âOkay.â
And they walked out of that place with nothing but silence existing between them.
The moment Aysu stepped into Ximunâs room, warmth enveloped her and she felt bad for hinting earlier that she still doubted him. She walked closer to his bed and the view of his peaceful sleeping face made her smile and urged her to climb into the bed.
Once she was lying next to him, the smoothness of his blanket making her feel more at home, Aysu continued staring at his fine face. Then, out of nowhere, his hand snaked her waist and he pulled her closer.
While trying hard not to blush, Aysu said, âI thought you were sleeping.â
âI was. You were quiet but not enough not to wake me up,â his groggy voice replied, his eyes still closed.
Aysu cupped the side of his face. âHow do you feel?â
His hand rested on hers. âI donât feel any different.â
âSure?â
He nodded and pouted like a baby. Then he asked, âWhy do you smell like death?â
âI held Mayanaâs hand.â
Ximun frowned and flung his eyes open. âWhy?â
âAlora told me to.â Wherever she was, Alora chuckled with excitement and Aysu wished she could lash that wolf a few beatings for making her do something so weird.
âAlora?â
âMy wolf.â
âWhy would she tell you to hold a dead personâs hand?â
âI dunno.â Aysu quickly ended that conversation. With a grunt of satisfaction that followed a little stretch of her body, she said, âYour bed is very soft and comfortable, I can sleep here all day and night.â
âYou can sleep here from now on if you like.â
âI can?â Aysu tried to fight a smile. âThat would be nice.â
âOnce your coronation happens, weâll move to a new room and Iâll make sure we have the best mattress. A sturdy and soft mattress.â
âThat sounds like a plan,â replied Aysu, that smile now fully plastered on her lips. âYou can go back to sleep now, Ximun.â
âAre you leaving?â he asked and pulled her closer, his touch telling her he was unwilling to let her go.
âNo, I am not.â As though the space between them wasnât enough, Aysu snuggled closer and made sure her eyes were all he could see. âI am here for you.â
âI am glad.â
âAnd, I donât hate you.â Aysu meant that and Ximun could tell.
So, in that comfortable embrace, they stayed still till they were both fast asleep.
