Chapter 30 of 36

Is rain in pain

Revelations (Fireoiny + Pinleaf)917 words~5 min read

"Do you not check the weather reports before going out?" Coiny snarked, holding Firey by the back of his shirt like a cat.

He'd seen him standing and staring out at the pouring rain for a minute or two. He'd looked upset- like an aggravated cat- so Coiny had come to the decision that it wouldn't hurt to maybe share his umbrella with him. He'd say it was out of pity, but there was also the fact that he still had yet to apologize.

He'd been thinking about it the entire time they'd been sat next to each other, but then Firey fell asleep and the apology Coiny had written was folded into a paper swan. The swan, now likely crumpled, sat in Coiny's pocket and he'd long come to the conclusion that he was better with saying words than he was writing them.

He didn't completely know what his plan was, but maybe he'd walk Firey home and then be able to say something? He hopes, at least. They aren't exactly on the same page yet, as Coiny would like them to be, so he has to fix that.

"Well sorry for not having the gift of foresight," Firey jerked, trying to get Coiny to let go of his shirt. "What's it matter to you?"

"You're gonna get sick walking in the coldass rain, and you were looking out at it like it killed your grandma or something."

"And...? Nothing I can do about it since somebody broke my-" he cut himself off. Coiny could practically hear him thinking "too soon" as the redhead took a step back. "I'll be fine"

"Just say it, say you fucked up and you're sorry."

Without a word, Coiny held his umbrella over the both of them and tugged Firey out from under the awning. "Which direction to your house?"

"What?" Firey tried not to trip over his feet.

"Which direction to your house dumbass? I know it's closer than mine, I can walk you there so you don't get sick and die."

Firey's cheeks dusted pink, and he glanced down at Coiny's hand around his wrist. He was holding him down so they'd be at eye level. "...This way" Coiny pretended to not notice as he joined their hands and lead him in the direction of his house. It was the opposite way of Coiny's, which would probably be fine, he was just doing this to apologize and make sure Firey doesn't fucking die.

...Except his leg is now drenched from the puddles below and christ that gauze is uncomfortable. And cold. It'll be fine. He could tough it out until he got home, hopefully.

"Don't you have your phone? why not call someone to pick you up or- something." Firey has to shout over the rain, and he's speed walking in an effort to get home quick while remaining under the umbrella.

"Shit, no. I left it charging at home." Coiny felt stupid for leaving it, but Pin was busy today anyways so who could he even call to pick him up?

"What were you listening to music with??"

"An Ipod?? For music???"

Firey blinked, incredulous. "You're kidding, those things are fucking ancient."

"You're ancient."

Firey stopped walking, instead opting to glare at Coiny. Coiny stared back, but with a more deadpan expression.

Then thunder crackled overhead and they both came back to their senses and started lightly jogging through the rain, eager to get the fuck out of the storm before it got bad.

Coiny seethed as he stepped in a deeper puddle, water splashing up to his knee. His leg stung, and he was surprised it hadn't started bleeding again or something to warrant it hurting this much.

"Are you okay?? We're almost there, I think." Of course Firey had noticed.

"What do you mean you think??"

"All these houses look the same- Oh wait it's right there thank fuck." He dropped Coiny's hand and skidded to a halt. He was about to turn and run up the steps, but he just had to hesitate. He just had to see Coiny reaching down to tug up his jeans, and the stained gauze underneath. "Oh shit."

"Uh, hey Firey before you-"

"C'mon, get inside." Coiny couldn't finish his sentence before he was being ushered up the steps and onto the- thankfully dry- porch.

"Wh- What? Why??"

Firey dug in his pockets for his house keys, successfully finding them and not so successfully twisting them in the lock. "Your leg! I don't know what kinda chemicals are in rain but I'm getting you new bandages and then you can borrow my bike-"

Coiny was confused, and Firey was talking fast which wasn't helping. "Slow down, slow down. I'm fine dude, I can-" A sting shot up his leg, and he bit down on his cheek to suppress a whimper. Jeez, that stings.

Firey paused trying to unlock the door. "You are not fine, don't bullshit me." More thunder cracked overhead, and the rain just seemed to get heavier. A click finally sounded, and Firey opened the door and stepped inside, taking off his shoes.

Without seeing another option, Coiny entered the house and painfully crouched down to untie his shoes.
