When did you learn ASL

The next morning, Firey had woken up in disarray. Monday. He'd tried texting Leafy to see if she was mad at him for the previous night. He wouldn't blame her, but it wasn't entirely his fault!

Coiny was being an ass too after all. She couldn't be mad at him for retaliating. He was still worried for her though, as she didn't reply. She didn't even read the message either.

She could've gone to sleep early, but he knew she'd had homework to complete that night. Maybe she just didn't wanna reply?

He didn't have time to think about that right now, as school was gonna start in less than 30 minutes and he hadn't even plugged his phone in the previous night.

He stood, dizzy from the sudden movement, and made his way to his closet to take out what'd he'd wear for the day.

*DING*

he leaned back to glance at his phone, his hand on a clothing hanger that held up a button up. He'd gotten a text from Leafy! She must've just woken up.

He took the shirt and his corset vest and laid them out on his bed, then picking up his phone to check what she'd said.

"I am kinda upset at your dumbassery, but yeah we're still cool" it read.

Firey let out an audible sigh of relief. she doesn't hate me, doesn't mean I'm not gonna get lectured about being nice later though. Firey laughed to himself before checking the time, 8:17am.

"Oh shit!" he exclaimed, rushing to put on his clothes and find something to eat for breakfast before he was late. He silenced his phone before jamming it into his pocket.

He choose an orange and ran to his front door, he grabbed his bag from beside the door and began his morning sprint to school. He didn't know why he doesn't just call an uber or something in the mornings, he only did in the afternoon because he'd be worn out from the day.

In the mornings he'd tend to have some stupid sorta energy, which he knew in the long run would help, as it's good exercise.

Firey finally got to his classroom barely five minutes before the bell was set to ring. He slumped into his seat, hoping to maybe nap before the teacher came in, only to feel a tap on his shoulder.

He lifted his head to see none other than Leafy, his best friend, glaring down at him with a sweet yet menacing grin.

"Firey! My good buddy, we have a lot to talk about!" Leafy said, hiding her still evident irritation in an overly sugary tone of voice.

"I didn't know I was due for a lecture." Firey replied, already bracing himself for the earful he'd kind of known he should've prepared for.

"You didn't see my text? Whatever it doesn't matter," she slammed her hands onto his desk. "why would you think it's a good idea to get into a fight at a party?! Your goofy ass should know what that can do to your reputation! And you had to drag me into it?" she whisper-yelled as to not attract more attention than they already had.

"It wasn't all me! that... jerk started it!" Firey whispered back, kind of scared but still not enough to where he'd just sit and let her go on until class started.

Unbeknownst to the two arguing baffoons, the aforementioned jerk's "girlfriend" had been watching their entire discussion, with an amused grin at that.

*BRIIIIINNG*

Leafy stood up straight and walked to her desk across the room, not breaking eye contact. The teacher walked in and went to scribbling the days lesson and the weeks assignments on the board, while Firey still felt the noirette staring holes into the back of his head.

He glanced back at her, only to see her making weird hand gestures, not just any though,

"when did you learn sign language??" Firey mouthed to her, with a confused and almost disbelieving expression.

"The same time I learned to read lips, also I had a mute partner for a presentation so I had to communicate with them somehow, since she just kept making comics with the typewriter they were lent." Leafy mouthed back, signing along with it.

She shook her hands before going back to signing, "That's not relevant! What did saying we're dating achieve? Are you trying to make him jealous or something?"

"No" Firey quickly shook his head, "I told you already, I don't know! I just... he's stupid! We can talk about this later." and with that, the boy turned to the board.

Unbeknownst to the two of them, someone else in that classroom also knew, not how to read lips, but sign language.
