Firey saw Coiny's eyes widen for a moment as he stepped forward. And then, in a flash, he was on the ground with a bloody nose and a bruised cheek.
"Your time's up."
Firey looked up to see the brunette standing over him menacingly. He looked unfamiliar, an anger Firey had never seen before burned in his eyes.
He felt blood running down his face and shot up, trying to wipe it away with his sleeve. "C-Coiny I don't want to fight. I'm sorry I'll leave just-"
"Shut. Up."
Firey was backing away and holding his stinging cheek. Coiny swung again, aiming for the same area. Firey shielded himself with his arm and tried not to stumble or trip.
"C-Coiny please-"
"Fight back asshole!"
He grabbed Firey by the arm and pulled him towards himself, kneeing him in the stomach. In the midst of this, Firey's phone flew out of his pocket and onto the pavement. By the subtle Crack! as it hit the ground, the two knew the device was long gone.
There was no time to dwell on that though, as Firey quickly kicked Coiny in the shin, causing the shorter to seethe and reach for his leg.
Firey attempted to flee once more, but Coiny wasn't going to let him go that easily.
He yelled and lunged at Firey, slamming into the other and sending them both crashing into the ground. Firey flipped onto his back under Coiny and caught his hands before they could land any hits.
This resulted in the two pushing against each other's palms, Firey trying to get Coiny off, and Coiny trying to pin the other and regain use of his hands.
The brunette managed to get one hand out of his grasp, but that was a mistake on his part, as Firey used that as an opening to push him off by his shoulder. They switched places, Coiny under Firey, and resumed the futile pushing game.
Or, rather, Firey was trying to pull his hands away and run, and Coiny was gripping tight at his wrists to prevent that.
"I said I was sorry! I don't want to fight!"
Break was long over by this point, leaving the courtyard empty and Firey unable to call for help.
Coiny tugged at Firey's wrists, putting their faces inches apart. "I don't care!" He head-butted him before letting go of his wrists and pushing him back down. Firey was beginning to realize he probably couldn't get away.
Coiny went to swing again, only for Firey to move to the side and grab him by the arm, sending him to the ground.
He wasn't going to give up just yet though. And Firey wasn't trying to flee.
"Coiny, stop this!"
"Make me!" The shorter stood again, and Firey noticed how one of his knees was scathed and bleeding, bad.
He supposed he would have to fight back... Or just apprehend Coiny to where he couldn't continue.
Firey dodged another hit and stayed defensive, looking for a chance to stop this. There was no way to plan it out, so he would look for any chance and take it. Coiny grabbed Firey's arms and attempted to push him into the shed that created the alley that lead to his hideout. And there was his chance.
Firey quickly switched their places again and slammed Coiny into the shed wall. He seethed and closed his eyes. Firey held his arms in front of him, not allowing him another chance to hit or grab. They both stopped, breathing heavily.
Coiny was done, the fight was over. And Firey would've been really thrown off balance by the sight of his rival-crush against a wall, sweating, their faces inches apart. Hell, he even would've sworn Coiny was the one looking conflicted over this. But, that's stupid, he was just trying to kill him.
And, of course, with all actions come consequences, such as a staff member just having walked out and conveniently having heard the commotion the two were causing.
They sat in the imfirmary, facing away from each other on different beds. Firey couldn't stop thinking about it over and over again. The confrontation, the near confession, the fight, the end of the fight... Going from all of those emotions one after the other was giving Firey whiplash, and the stagnant air of the infirmary was not helping.
He had tissues jammed up his nose and held and ice pack to his cheek, while Coiny had just finished getting his leg bandaged up. Neither of them had spoken a word to each other since they'd arrived.
Firey wished he could gauge Coiny's expression, but the boy just stared down at his injured leg, hands on either side of him. He had earbuds in, so even if Firey wanted to say something, he wouldn't be heard.
...Things wouldn't be the same after this, would they?
The two had gotten physical before, and gotten in trouble like this before, but it was never over anything too serious, and they would both tease and laugh about it right after. Neither of them were teasing now.
To make matters worse, they'd been given detention for the next morning, on a weekend. A whole morning in a quiet room, alone, together.
It was already around sixth period, so the two were told to just go home and to stop pulling stunts like this.
Firey sighed and went to grab his phone from his pocket to message Leafy, before remembering it was broken. He frowned, and with one last glance at his rival, left the room.
