3 - Forever and always

I've been waiting for him for a long time but he doesn't come.

I'm sitting at the table, the hours are passing and it's getting later and later.

He must have been here a long time ago, I'm sure he would have called if he could.

I wait a little longer, check, there's no one in the driveway.

No one said they saw him, I called everyone.

Why, is something wrong?

I look back at the window.

Suddenly the phone rings, a voice says something has happened and I should go right away.

My mind goes back to December, I think of when he asked me to marry him.

He first bent down on his knees then said:

I pull up to the entrance of the emergency room and go straight to reception, they lead me down a million corridors, a maze that never ends.

Then I get an idea and call the nurses.

They call the chaplain, and he says a couple of verses.

I borrow some rings from the couple next door

They all laugh as the tears fall on the floor

I look him in the eye and say:

I finish saying my vows but his beeps are getting slow

His voice is almost too low as he says:

Please just remember that even if I'm not there with you

He closes his eyes and a continuous sound comes out of the device he is connected to...
