Mom and Dad were still at work by the time I got back home. So, I was home alone. Out of all the possible things I could do when I was home alone, I decided to lie in my bed and mope.
Yes, I moped. I could have been that rebellious child that threw a party or wrecked the house. But those days were over (not that those days ever happened!). So, I decided the best thing to do was lie in my bed and do nothing.
I sighed and looked over to my desk where my laptop sat, staring ferociously at me, saying 'open me up, apply for jobs, think of your future'. I groaned, I didn't even have the motivation to get up off my bed and open the laptop. I didn't have the energy to think of the future.
"Screw you laptop. You don't know me" I shouted to no one. It was official, I was going crazy. I was screaming at my laptop. Who even does that?
I did have energy, however, to pick up my phone and send a thank you text to a certain someone.
Me: Thanks for today. Had a blast. It almost made me forget about entering the big bad world of adulting. Almost.
I laughed as I sent the text. Almost instantly I received a reply back.
Jason: Glad I could help. How about you completely forget about your 'oh so doomed' future and come out with us tonight.
Me: But it's your guys night out. I wouldn't want to impose.
Jason: It'll be a great laugh. Join us?
Me: Can Liz come?
Jason: Urgh, does she have to?
Me: We're a package deal. Wherever I go, she goes.
Jason: I suppose so then.
It was as if I could hear him groan, which made me laugh.
Me: Awesome. I'll get the deets of Liz. See you tonight x
I managed to muster the energy to get off my bed to go to the kitchen and make myself some lunch. I also took my phone with me so I could call Liz later.
I made myself a sandwich and sat down in the living room. I figured this would be enough time for Jason to fill Liz in on the plan for her to relay back to me. I called Liz and took the first bite of my sandwich.
"Hey Rosie" Liz answered.
"Hey" I replied with a mouthful of food.
"What are you eating?"
"Sandwich" I finally answered once I had devoured my first bite.
"Sounds appetising" she replied flatly.
"It is" I defended. "Anyway, did Jason tell you about the plan for tonight?"
"You mean our plan to get totally wasted and have the best night ever? Yeah he mentioned it"
"This is going to be great. Oh, and I am pre warning you now, please please with a cherry on top, go into your room and pick out your outfit. Now!" I groaned. "We are not waiting hours for you to get ready"
"Don't worry, I'm in my room right now looking through my wardrobe. Plus, Jason also gave me the same warning"
"Jason is a smart man" I grinned, thinking of Jason scolding his sister with the same advice.
"So, Ian is our designated driver for the night" Liz sighed.
"What's wrong with that?"
"It's Ian. That's the problem"
"I don't see the problem. It's Ian" I shrugged, struggling to follow her logic. "If anything, you should be excited that he's coming out with us tonight"
"It means, I'll have to be on my best behaviour"
I scoffed "No you don't. I'm sure he's seen what your like when you're out"
"That was the one time we all went out. And he was drunk too, so he probably didn't remember much. Hell, even I don't remember that night" she chuckled. "But tonight, he's going to be sober, so...."
"So, you're not going to go crazy tonight?"
"I don't know" she whined.
"I don't know what to do either. Maybe just have a couple of drinks and then dance the rest of the night away. I'll drink on your behalf" I joked.
"Thanks. You're a great pal" she deadpanned.
"Well, its not like I have to be on my best behaviour" I laughed.
"I suppose not. So, what are you wearing?"
"I don't know yet. I'm sure I'll find something lying about in my wardrobe"
"Do you have matching shoes to go with it?" she asked seriously.
I tried hard not to laugh "I probably do. What about you missy, are you looking for your outfit right now? I don't hear any movement"
"Ugh, I'm looking, I'm looking" she groaned, finally hearing some shuffling in the background. "You do realise how difficult this is?"
"No, I don't" I replied. "That is why we have given you this time to find something to wear. Because we know this is, for whatever reason, the most difficult decision you could possibly ever make" I said, rolling my eyes.
Liz groaned "You and Jason are so alike, it's unbelievable"
I laughed "Okay, I'm going to hang up now, so you have no more distractions"
"Fine. Be at ours for seven"
"Okay, see you then" and with that I hung up and returned to devouring my sandwich.
Liz was the one, surprisingly, who opened the front door to her house when I arrived. "Wow, you' re actually ready" I commented, standing at the door in genuine shock. She wore a black knee length strapless dress, matched with her favourite pair of black heels. They made her feel taller, she would always say.
Liz rolled her eyes "You look great" she smiled as she ushered me in to the house and closed the door behind me. "I've always liked that dress. It looks great on you" I opted for my red dress, which hung just below my knees. It was one of my more daring ones as it had a slight cut in the middle, so a little of my chest was exposed.
"As do you" I replied back.
"And I see you wore matching shoes"
"Of course. Otherwise I would have had my behind kicked from my very own fashion police" I said pointedly at Liz. My shoes were of course red to match the dress. They had a slight heel to them, so they weren't as high as Liz's. "Where are the boys?"
"They're still getting ready. Can you believe it? And they're always giving me grief about getting ready" she huffed.
"I feel as if I'm in some alternate universe right now, where you're the one who's actually ready on time. I feel slightly faint. Someone catch me" I joked as I placed my hand to my forehead.
"Does someone need saving? Don't worry, I'll be there to catch you" Jason shouted from the top of the staircase. Jason laughed as he came down the stairs, followed by Ian behind him.
"Can you believe that Liz is ready before us?" I joked.
"You're right. That is enough to make anyone faint" Jason laughed.
"Okay, I get it. This is funny to you guys. Let's put it in all the newspapers" Liz huffed.
"I think we might just have to" Jason smirked.
"Well, we better get going" Ian said, interrupting their sibling rivalry.
"I agree with Ian" Liz said as she made her way out the door, throwing Ian a grateful smile.
I couldn't help but laugh with Jason. "Oh, I do get a kick out of teasing Liz" Jason grinned.
"Seeing you two argue is my favourite pastime." I joked as we made our way out.
The club was blaring with music when we arrived. People were surrounding every corner, which was not surprising for a Saturday night.
We managed to find a table at the corner of the club and sat down.
"So, I guess Ethan didn't get the marker of his face" I commented as I noticed his absence.
Jason chuckled "I guess not. I'll check up on him later. I suppose that means more ladies for us, right Ian?" Jason elbowed him in the ribs to get his attention.
"Oh, right, yeah" Ian chuckled half-heartedly, sneaking glances at Liz. Liz and Ian had been quiet the whole time we were here. Even in the car ride here, they didn't say a word, it was Jason and I who were yapping their ears off. "Anyone want drinks? I'll go get them" Ian asked.
"I'll help" Liz shot up quickly, both looking glad to have an excuse to get out of the booth. I felt sorry for them. I hoped they would have had an amazing night tonight, despite the barriers holding them back from being together.
"Are they okay? Jason asked when they left the booth "They've been really quiet all night"
I shrugged, feigning innocence. "I have no idea". Obviously, I knew what was going on, but he didn't have to know just yet. He turned in his spot just in time to see Ian and Liz come back with their drinks.
Liz gave a tight-lipped smile as she came back to her seat in the booth. I gave a small smile back, knowing how difficult this was for her. She just wanted to enjoy a night with Ian. And I knew just how to do that.
I smiled as I raised my glass to the table, an idea forming in my head "To being young"
"Well, someone's changed their tune" Jason smiled as he also lifted his glass in celebration.
Ian and Liz joined us in raising a toast as we all clinked our glasses together "Cheers" we shouted in unison.
"Well, that was nice, wasn't it" I said, too enthusiastically.
Liz turned to me with her eyebrows raised "Yeah" she enunciated slowly, then whispered in my ear "What are you doing?"
I answered her back with a sly smirk and returned to my drink "What is this?" I asked Ian, pointing to my drink.
"Sangria" Ian replied with his eyebrow also raised. "Liz said you liked it"
"Yes, I do. Thanks Ian. I love it" I said, in a clipped voice "And what have you got Jason?"
"A beer" Jason answered quizzically.
"Ah, I see. You always get that, don't you"?
"Yeah, I suppose" he answered with a confused smile.
"Interesting" I mused.
"Seriously, where are you going with this?" Liz whispered ferociously.
I took another gulp of my drink "Let's go dance" I said to Liz and pushed her out her seat, to which Liz protested with a groan.
"I will ask once again, what is going on?" Liz now spoke loud and clear once we were on the dance floor.
"I have a plan" I said proudly with a huge grin on my face as I danced away to the music, throwing my hands in the air, pretending I knew how to dance.
Liz rolled her eyes "And what is this brilliant plan of yours?"
"I plan to get Jason drunk, like very very drunk" I grinned.
Liz sighed and stopped dancing "And what exactly is that going to do? Except get Jason very very drunk"
"If Jason is drunk, then he will be too busy to notice if you and Ian so happen to wander off and have a great night together" I smirked. Liz wrinkled her eyes, mulling over the idea, a tentative smile taking over her face.
I grinned, "I'm going to take that as a yes" I clapped and dragged her back to the booth.
"Oh, I see you're almost finished with your drink Jason. Let's go get another one" I said eagerly as I grabbed Jason's hand to get him away from the booth. I gave Liz a wink, signalling for her to take Ian and have an amazing night.
"You're crazy" Liz whispered as I passed her, with a smile on her face. I smiled, knowing she was going to have a great time.
"Is everything okay? What's the rush?" Jason chuckled as I dragged him to the bar.
"Nothing. You just looked like a little parched that's all" I breathed out. "What was it you drank again?"
"It's the..."
"Oh yeah, I remember now. It was-"
"I got it" Jason smiled and paid for our drinks.
"Thanks" I said as Jason handed me my drink.
"So what-"Jason started to say but then looked over at our now empty booth, his eyes crinkled in confusion. "Where did Liz and Ian go?"
"Oh" I shrugged nonchalantly "Who knows? Anyway, how's work?" I asked, trying, and failing, to steer the conversation away from Liz and Ian.
Jason turned to me with a raised eyebrow "Hey, no talk of work, remember? The whole point of this night was to forget about it. Trust me, the last thing I want to talk about is work"
"I hear you" I raised my bottle" Cheers" I shouted as Jason also raised his glass and clinked it with mine.
A couple of bottles later (okay, it may have been a few) we were acting like wild animals on the dance floor. Not going to lie, the drink did make me pull out some of my greatest dance moves. The dance floor had parted for me as I whipped my head from side to side, flailing my arms about, the cheers and claps from the circle of people around me, making me smile and bust out some even crazier moves.
Jason moved into the middle and grinned sloppily, his arms folded. "You have the craziest dance moves when you're drunk. I see you've got some new moves. I'm very impressed" he grinned coyly.
"Oh, is that so?" I said, hearing a hint of a challenge in his voice. "Well, if you enjoy it so much, why don't you join me here and show me your dance moves" I grinned.
The onlookers erupted in cheers as Jason shook his head and made his way to the dance floor beside me. "Game on!" he shouted before busting out some crazy dance moves of his own. He started off thrusting his hips, which the girls screamed at, then shook them from side to side and, goodness knows what he was thinking, he ended up twerking.
I couldn't help but laugh. It turned out he was just as great a dancer when drunk as I was. The crowd all joined back to the dance floor when a new song played. Their bodies moved to the beat of the music, our time in the spotlight finished.
I grinned at Jason as he walked over to me, his hands raised in triumph "I was good, wasn't I?" he smirked cockily.
"You were alright" I shrugged, a smile tugging at my lips. "Although, I did like the twerking. Who knew you could twerk"?
"I am a man of many talents"
"This has been a great night, I don't want it to end" I sighed dramatically, throwing my arms out in the air like they would in the movies if the actor was feeling the rain coming down on her face. Instead all I could feel was the humidity of the club.
Jason took one of my outstretched hands into his and my other hand, as if it had a mind of its own, attached to his shoulder.
"Lets dance" Jason whispered in my ear and all rational thought went out of my hazy, drunk induced brain, and we did just that, dance.
In my mind, we were dancing the tango. I could feel the music coursing through my veins, the way Jason looked at me, his piercing green eyes taking me in, making my heart beat faster the way he expertly moved me around the dance floor, the room becoming hotter, made me breathless.
My arms wrapped around his neck, as he pulled me closer to him, our bodies moulded into one as our hips moved in sync to the beat of the music.
I went to graze my leg against Jason's, as if I was actually doing the tango. Instead I tripped on my heel and landed further into Jason.
Jason's tight grip stopped me from falling entirely onto the floor. My eyes widened in shock, but I looked up at Jason's face as he righted me up. I smiled gratefully at him for stopping me from falling to my doom. That moment, it was like the whole world had stopped. I could no longer hear the music, the loud voices of the clubbers became muffled noise, the people turning into a blur in the background. All I could hear was the loud rhythmic beating of my heart. Jason's eyes, not for a second, taking them off mine.
It was like someone had turned the heat up as my body temperature soared looking at Jason, my breathing becoming erratic.
It was as if it was just the two of us, alone, in the room as his arms wrapped around my waist and mines instinctively wrapped around his neck. His head inched closer to mine, his hot breath fanning my face.
Next thing I knew, I heard fireworks go off in my head. His lips touching mine was a strange feeling, leaving my toes tingling and my lips feeling electric, my body embracing it. The butterflies exploded in my stomach as he pulled me closer, deepening the kiss.
My head filled with a hazy cloud, not knowing what was going on, but loving the sensation it gave me. My hands tangled through his soft hair as his hands moved up and down my back.
The kiss left me breathless, the tingling sensation still there. This is what I had dreamed off. My dream kiss would always be this perfect. And it was better than it was in my dreams.
If this was a dream, I was definitely going to wake up a happy girl.
