chapter 44
Anya had planned to distance herself from Lily after showing her around the school. She never expected Lily to stand up for her and even maim Jackâs leg when he bullied her. While she was deeply touched, she knew they couldnât afford to offend Jack
She had to beg for mercy for Lily. She was determined not to let Lily get hurt.
âYouâll pay?â Jack spat on Anyaâs face. âDo you think you have enough money to pay up?
Lilly lifted her gaze slightly, her cold eyes glinting. She slipped a silver needle into her palm. The next moment, her demeanor humed icy.
Anyone familiar with her would know that she wanted Jack dead.
Lily made to move forward, but lan pulled her back. âHold it in. You may have powerful backers, but have you considered her situation? Her family is not wellâoff or influential. If you help her today, sheâll face even more severe bullyingâ
âIs that so?â Lily glanced at Jan coldly.
She spun around, sprinted ahead, and seized Jackâs neck. Her hold was forcetal, and Jack immediately struggled to breathe.
Startled, his lackeys nearby shouted, âWhat are you doing? Let Jack go!â
âHow dare you attack him! The Dalton family will not spare you!â
Ian and Sean jolted with shock as well, their jaws dropping open.
Nobody expected the new student to take on Ember Creek High Schoolâs bully on her first day. Moreover, she was not afraid in the slightest
tan suddenly found Lily to be quite impressive.
With a kick, Lily brought jackâs lackeys down. She raised her hand, and Jack was held alott. At that, everyone fell silent.
Jackâs face was blanched, and his eyes were rolling back. He seemed to be on the verge of death, Just as Jack thought he was actually about to die, Lily loosened her grip, and Jack dropped to the ground. Lily looked down at him with the bearing of a queen. âAnya is under my protection.â
If this had happened in the past, Jack would be dead by now, given Lilyâs temper.
Nonetheless, she did not want to make too much trouble, so she spared Jackâs life. If Jack continued to push his luck, Lily wouldnât be so easy on him the next time. Lily pulled Anya away
The crowd that had gathered quickly dispersed. No one dared to stop her.
Clutching his neck, Jack frantically pulled in breaths and pointed at Lily. âYou! I wonât let you get away with this. Iâll all your entire family.â
Lily stopped walking and tamed to look at him, her expression blank, âI have a grandmother. Sheâs at the hospital downtown. If youâre not afraid of dying, go there.â
Bridgeportâs Dalton family held no significance to Lily. She doubted the head of the Dalton family would dare to kill her entire family.
Lily was just about to leave when the voice of a girl rang out, âLily Brooks, youâre so cocky from the moment you arrived at Ember Creek. Have you considered how your time at school will go?
It was Heather. Slowly, she walked toward Lily with an imposing presence.
She was relatively tall. At five foot seven, she was a head taller than Lily. She looked down at Lily. âEmber Creek High School is not your playground.â
Talysed and pushed Anya forward, âTouch her Go on.â
âI do it! Iâm not afraid of you.â
Intending to please Heather, Alexis raised her hand to strike Anya. At once, Lily grabbed her hand and gave it a firm squeeze. Her hand became incapacitated.
Alexis immediately screamed.
Heather narrowed her eyes as she felt her blood run cold.
Lily took hold of Anya and turned to leave, but Heatherâs people stopped her.
âLet her go!â Heather said expressionlessly. Only then did they move out of her way. Lily and Anya left, leaving behind a mess in the cafeteria.
