Chapter 163
Lilyâs eyes were downcast, and she looked as if she was unhappy about something.
Maxwell stared at her for some time before patting her shoulder and saying, âDonât dwell so much on what happened back then. No one could have foreseen something like that would happen. You canât keep holding on to the past.â
Maxwellâs thoughts drifted. He felt a little stiled and lit a cigarette. âIâm responsible for that incident as well. If you canât move on, I
âHfeel very guilty.â
Lily looked up and pursed her lips. âDonât be. Iâve moved on long ago.â
âAre you sure?â Maxwell looked at her. âSince you started taking over the underground world of Aeston, you havenât thought of letting this go. You want to find those people to avenge the Grahams. But itâs not that simple. Weâve worked on it for seven years and found no trace of a clue.â
Lily turned and looked at the street outside. Her voice sounded distant. âTheyâll be found someday. They must pay for the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Graham.â
Maxwell asked, âDo Bobby and Poppy wish for you to find them?â
Lily pursed her lips and didnât reply.
âIf they donât want you to keep looking, why are you still at it? Maxwell fell deep sympathy for Lily
She was only 19 years old. At this age, she should be in school, doing things that she liked. For example, she could dance well. If they found her a good dancing teacher, she would have a bright future ahead.
However, she kept putting herself in dangerous situations and couldnât leave that kind of life behind.
Lily rubbed her temples, feeling a bit lazy to deal with this. âMr. Lane, I wonât insist on holding on to anything else. But this is the only thing that I wonât let go
She opened the car door and said, âPlease take care of Bobby and Poppy. When itâs time for them to go to the University of Bridgeport, Iâll take over and care for them myselfâ âLilyâ Maxwell still had more to say, but Lily had already gotten out of the car.
He sighed and started the car. Soon, he drove away.
Not far behind the car, shannon looked at the photos on her phone with a vicious glint in her eyes. She smiled sinisterly, thinking of how Lily would have to explain herself to Loid. Early the next morning, Melanie came to Anmer Heights. Loid and Shaun had some business to attend to, so they left early. Therefore, only Lily was at home.
As soon as Melanie entered, she pulled Lily toward the bedroom. âI bought you an evening gown in your size. Go try it on.â
Lily pinched the bridge of her nose. âThereâs no need to try. Iâll just wear it tonight.â
âYou must try it on. Otherwise, how would you know whether it fits you?â Melanie pushed Lily into the room. âI dropped everything else today so that I can come and dress you up. Iâll take you out for a facial and get your hair styled later. I want you to shine and be the center of attention!â
Lily didnât know what to say to that. She didnât want any attention!
Holding the gown, Lily hesitated for a while before going in to try it on. She never rejected any of Melanieâs requests.
After some time, Lily came out wearing the evening gown
Melale was looking at her phone. When she looked up, she was stunned.
