Chapter 156
Lily turned toward him and stiffened her lips. She fell silent and finally leaned back against the bed.
âSleep then.â
A triumphant smile crossed Loidâs face. âI want to hold you when I sleep.â
Glaring at him, Lily snapped, âDonât try to take advantage of the situation!â
âBut Iâm cold!â Loid snuggled closer to her. âYouâre warm.â
Feeling utterly resigned, Lily muttered, âfast hurry up and sleep.â
âOkayâ
Lold closed his eyes for a while and opened them shortly after. âMy mom said that once my poison is completely cleared, she wants to host a banquet to announce our relationship
Lily nodded. âMelanie told me about it.â
âSo that means you admit that youâre my fiancéeâ Loid sat up and pulled her into his arms
Still absorbed in her thoughts, Lily hadnât noticed that she was nestling in his embrace.
âIâm just trying to please Melanie,â she drawled out after a long while.
Loid sighed just how long would it take for her to bare her emotions to him?
*Mom will be delighted. She wants me to marry you.â Loid smirked. âEven so, are you still willing to make her happy and go along with it?â
Lily glanced at him and suddenly realized something. âArenât you going to sleep?â
Loid fell silent. It appeared that he couldnât get the response he anticipated
âI have a gift for you.â He withdrew a file from the drawer at the bedside table and handed it to Lily. âAll the Maynard familyâs properties have been transferred to your name. Reese, youâll have to protect me from now on!â He beamed at her.
Staring at his bright smile, Lily was momentarily stunned. She snapped back to her senses shortly after and stated indifferently, âI canât accept such filth. Do whatever you want with it.â
The Maynards nearly incurred Belindaâs death. She absolutely wouldnât use a single penny from their accounts.
âAlright. Iâll have Shaun cash it all out and donate it to an orphanage in your name,â Loid said. He had a gist that she wouldnât accept it, but he still had to inquire her opinion. Since she didnât want it, there was no need to keep it either.
âWhatever,â Lily said. She suddenly turned around, her gaze lingering on him before she arched her brows. Smirking, she continued, âLold, it seems like youâre not planning to sleep.â
Loid froze and cleared his throat swiftly. âNow that youâre with me, I suddenly canât sleepâ
âIâll leave then.â
Loid instantly tightened his grip around her when she was about to leave his bed. Propping his head against her shoulder, he murmured in a baritone voice, âDonât leave. Let me hold you for awhile. I was so afraid that I wouldnât be able to see you again when I was being pursued.â
Lily stilled and remained silent. In an instant, silence blanketed the room as neither of them spoke
After a few minutes, she tilted her head and glanced at Loid, âYou couldâve just sought treatment at a nearby hospital. Why risk your life to return?â
âYou told me even if I die, I shouldâve died here! Loid rumbled.
Lilyâs heart seemingly skipped a beat. She was rendered silent for a long while. Finally, she began in a strained voice, âShould we date? Her face became flushed
Loid jerked his head up and stared at her in astonishment. âAre you serious?
youran take it as a joke as well. Lily began to regret her decision.
âIâm taking it seriously,â Loid sat up and took her into an embrace âYou canât take it back now.â
