Hearing his questioning tone, Alice hugged her pillow tightly and looked at his furious face, "Are you angry that I didn't tell you immediately, or angry that I stopped David?"
"Is there any difference?" William stared at her and said, his voice becoming heavier, "This is a matter of the Cullen family; shouldn't I make the decision? Why are you doing so much?"
Why do so much.
Yeah, she did so much; she was nosy.
She tried her best to hold it in as she said, "Charles said that mother's situation isn't too good, and that someone has to take responsibility for everything regarding the Cullen family, so she can be at ease. I don't want that person to be you.
She couldn't think of a better way.
She admitted that she was being selfish, but if she had to choose again, she would do the same.
"Destined?" William repeated her words, and then let out a cold laugh, "Alice, you think you're perfect just because you did that?"
Alice bit her lips.
"Alice, am I not enough for you to trust me? Why didn't you be the first to tell me such a big thing? " William stared at her.
Alice blinked twice, moisture appearing on her eyelashes. "If I were to tell you, you wouldn't let your brother stay."
She knew this too well.
William had deep feelings, respect, and hate for David, but in the end, he was still willing to let his brother live a carefree life.
"So you forced my brother to stay?"
William immediately stood up from the bed, his bare feet stepping on the soft blanket as he glared at her.
"I didn't force him."
Alice said softly. David was willing to follow her;if he really wanted to leave, no one could stop him.
"He feels too much guilt towards me. If you say so, will he come back?" William glared at her, gritting his teeth, his anger building up, "Alice, why do you love to make your own decisions? I don't need you to be like this for my own good!" he shouted.
When Alice heard this, she couldn't take it anymore. She put the pillow on the ground and ran into the bathroom, closing the door tightly and locking it shut. She stood in front of the washbasin with her head lowered, letting the tears fall as her hands trembled.
Actually, when she made this decision, Alice had expected that she would be blamed, but she never expected that he would be so angry.
"Bang bang."
The bathroom door was slammed a few times.
"Open the door!"
William shouted unhappily from outside.
Alice couldn't tell if she was feeling wronged or guilty, but she felt incredibly sad. She lowered her head and cried while clenching her teeth tightly on her lips.
Tears did not run down his cheeks, but fell directly into the sink.
"Hey, come out, what are you doing hiding inside!" William said loudly, "I only said a few words and you lock yourself up; what do you mean by that?"
Alice closed his eyes, forcefully suppressing her tears. She used a towel to wipe his eyes, then stepped forward and opened the door.
William stood nervously at the door, staring at her with his eyes. When he saw that there were no tears on her face, the nervousness in her eyes subsided, and he turned his face away, "I thought you were crying.
"What would you do if you were me?"
Alice stood there and asked, her voice somewhat choked.
If William stood in her position, what would William do? Could it be that he wouldn't look after her first?
"Naturally, we listen to my man!" William stared straight at her, pointing at her with his finger, "Alice, you still don't know where your fault lies!"
With that, William turned and left. He did not even bother to put on his shoes and left barefooted.
Alice stood there and looked at his resolute back. She bit her lips hard and bit down hard, tears still flowing down her face.
William said that she still did not know where she was at, and very quickly, Alice found out.
David's return allowed him to expand his happiness, and allowed him to see hope.
At night, the family sat together for a rare meal. Elizabeth sat at the main seat, and Alice sat beside the two children.
William's expression had not changed since the moment he had David stay behind.
As for David, Alice had never known him to be a man who was good at talking and laughing with others. Previously, she had only felt that he had a kind of gentle temperament, but it was also a little gloomy as she had never heard him speaking so much.
Elizabeth could not stop smiling at what David was saying; she turned to look at the two children who had a puzzled look on their faces, "This is your father's older brother, called Uncle."
"Uncle."
Kathy sat there and called out sweetly, while Holy looked at him with a bit of surprise.
"Good boy." David smiled and replied, "Kathy is so cute. I have a present for you. I'll get the maid to give it to you later."
Hearing that there was a gift, Kathy's eyes lit up, "Thank you, Uncle!".
Alice did not laugh, and she only looked at William who was sitting opposite of him, eating dinner with a cold expression, and did not say a single word.
David looked at Holy's small face that was still covered in gauze, "What about you, Holy?"
"You're the one who kidnapped us."
Holy's face was cold, and his young voice was ice-cold.
"What kidnapping?"
Kathy looked at her brother with a baffled expression.
Hearing this, David smiled awkwardly, "Your eyes are quite vicious. Don't try to imitate your father; a little kid doesn't need to have so many things in his head.
Hearing that, Kathy's eyes immediately opened wide and gave him a thumbs up, "Uncle, I like you!"
Holy looked at his own sister coldly. His stupid sister really couldn't differentiate anything between the two of them, so Alice lowered her head and whispered into Holy's ears, "That time, he was only joking with you guys; he had no ill intentions." Hearing Alice's words, Holy nodded reluctantly and began to eat.
"How come you've already seen two children?"Elizabeth asked David curiously. "Yes, I saw it when I was in San Francisco. Kathy has a lively and pure personality. Holy is cool and smart, a bit like William, but he's not like how he would when William was young." David said. William had always been the only one who held himself back, he was stubborn and unconvinced. No one could hold him back.
"That's true."Elizabeth nodded, looked at William, and said, "Previously, only you were able to make him listen in."
After that, it was Alice's turn.
Only Alice heard the words of the others, so she did not take the rest of the people's words to heart.
William still sat there eating with a dark face as if the topic of their discussion wasn't him at all. He didn't have the slightest bit of appetite as he sat there.
"I've just combed through the internal affairs of the Cullen family; there's nothing too difficult about it." David put down the tableware in his hands and said, "I have already asked Charles to do it, and the news of me still being alive will be released tonight. I might need to run over a few more times in the next few days to verify my identity."
"You really don't need to rest?"Elizabeth asked.
"Mother, I told you, I've already rested for a long time, and it's time for me to take some responsibility for my family." David said, "Once the matter regarding Father is exposed, it will definitely deeply affect our Cullen family, so before that, I still have to contact all the parties concerned and consolidate my position. At least, when that day comes, no one will try to mess with me in private."
Alice raised her eyes and looked at David. He spoke a lot, as if she had a lot of plans for the future of the Cullen family, but he had never thought about returning to the Cullen family at all.
Was David pretending?
Elizabeth looked at David, and was very pleased, "You've grown a lot after your trip out. If your father saw you, he would definitely be very happy."
"Father has always been afraid that I would not be able to support Cullen family."
David said.
"That was because you were too young in the past, but now that you have grown up, the two brothers will take care of each other, and the Cullen family will get better and better."Elizabeth said with a smile, as she reached out and grabbed David's hand again.
Finally, there was some light in this gloomy life.
He also described to her which ones he should befriend and which ones he would get the wrong benefits from.
"I'm full!"
William suddenly stood up, threw the knife and fork in his hand onto the plate, and turned around with a cold face.
Seeing his actions, Elizabeth frowned in dissatisfaction. "William, what are you doing?
With that, Elizabeth sat there stiffly, his face pale white. She realized that he had said something else wrong.
Even if the truth had been completely exposed, Elizabeth would still subconsciously say such words, as if Joseph Cullen was still alive. Perhaps, deep in her heart, he still had not completely untied the knot in her heart.
When she said that, William, David, and Alice all looked at her, and Elizabeth's expression became even more unsightly.
William looked at Elizabeth deeply, then turned and left.
Elizabeth called out to him, "William, I'll send someone to get you later. We'll go accompany your father tonight."
"I want to go with grandpa as well!"
Kathy immediately raised her hand up high, and she did not know that her grandfather who she had met since she was young was only a substitute. "You don't need to go."Elizabeth's words were directed at Kathy, but her gaze landed on Alice, "I want my two sons to accompany my husband well."
Alice tactfully understood the meaning of her words.
She couldn't bother them.
After dinner, William and David were called to the study room to mourn the death of their father.
No one can be very sympathetic.
Alice was in the bathroom washing the bath by herself. Warm water dripped from her seaweed like hair and slid down her fair skin. She raised her head, allowing the water to wash off her face.
She crouched on the ground, letting the water wash over her, and her hands tightly wrapped around herself.
