Sandra continued…

“To save my people from extinction, my father made a pact with the King of the Great Whites — his daughter would marry the king’s son.

I never wanted to marry him, but I had to — for the survival of the merfolk.

My two children were born, but I was always searching for a way to save them… and myself… from that fate.

Until one day, a Seer from the Volcano Islands in the Pacific told me how — but it came with a price.”

“What price?” I asked, completely absorbed by her story.

I still wasn’t sure if I believed any of it. But the idea of a hidden world beneath the sea, a world different from everything we know, stirred something deep inside me — curiosity, wonder, and a desire to keep listening.

It felt like trying to piece together a forgotten puzzle with missing fragments I was desperate to find.

Sandra answered.

“The price was to renounce everything tied to the sea — our powers, our immortality, everything.

We would become ordinary humans.

Our lives would be shorter, weaker… but free.

I didn’t hesitate. My children’s safety mattered more than anything. Mine, too.

The Seer told me to travel to the Mediterranean — where the Great Whites were fewer and our presence would go unnoticed.

So we did. We crossed into the Mediterranean and set foot on land, on a small island south of Spain.

That was the price we paid for our freedom.”

“And how did you end up here?” I asked her.

“How we ended up here…

That… is a story for the next chapter.

Where everything slowly begins.”
