He always spoke with a hint of a smile, his words slow and deliberate, exuding a kind of genteel politeness that made it difficult for anyone to take offense. It felt like if you were too harsh with him, you'd only be in the wrong.
"Mr. Gordon came to talk business with Thalassa, but why didn't he call her first? She's gone off the radar, and we can't find her anywhere," Hertha said, worry lining her voice.
"What? Thalassa is missing?" Callum's usual smile faded into a look of concern and apprehension.
He quickly pulled out his smartphone and dialed Thalassaâs number. The phone rang, breaking the tense silence.
Inside, Thalassa, who had just woken up, realized her phone had died. She had just plugged it in and powered it back on when the call came through. She answered.
Callumâs voice, filled with worry, came through: âThalassa, where are you? Are you alright?â
Before Callum could finish, an agitated Hertha snatched the phone from him, her voice trembling with relief and fear, âThalassa, you finally answered! Where have you been? You had us scared to death.â
Herthaâs urgency and the hint of tears in her voice tugged at Thalassaâs heartstrings. âIâm at home.
My phone died,â she hurriedly explained.
âSo, you're home. We're right outside, come open the door,â Hertha said. After Thalassa agreed, Hertha hung up, realizing she was holding Callum's phone. With a slight apology, she handed the phone back to Callum, âSorry, I was just... really worried.â
âItâs okay, I understand how you feel,â Callum reassured her.
Moments later, Thalassa opened the door to find the three of them standing there, a mix of relief and concern on their faces, âYou all came together? Come on in.â
Seeing Thalassa safe and sound, Herthaâs anxiety melted away. She linked arms with Thalassa in a sisterly fashion, âI rang the doorbell so many times, why didnât you answer? Do you know how worried I was?â
Realizing the extent of Hertha's worry, Thalassa apologized, âI was sleeping deeply, didnât hear it.â
âWell, as long as youâre okay. Iâd rather have worried for nothing,â Hertha said, her voice still shaky.
Thalassa invited Hertha, Alaric, and Callum to sit on the couch, saying, âIâll make some tea for us.â
After preparing the tea, Thalassa returned to the living room to find Hertha and Alaric sitting together, leaving only the seat next to Callum open. Without overthinking, she took the open seat and began distributing the tea cups, starting with Callum, who was closest, âTea?â
âThanks,â Callum said, accepting the cup with a soft, affectionate gaze.
Just then, the sound of wheels turning approached the door. Thalassa turned to see David pushing Lysander into the room. Lysanderâs gaze was icy, piercing as he looked at her sitting next to Callum, their hands almost touching as they held their tea cups. The air around Lysander seemed to chill even further, his presence as cold as ice.
