This time, Alaric was determined not to go back.
With nowhere to stay, he gave his good friend Ethan a call.
Ethan took him in.
Upon learning that he had run away from home with his bank account frozen, Ethan clapped him on the shoulder and said, âHow about you come work at my company? I can pay you a salary every month. It won't make you rich, but hey, you won't starve.â
He said it in jest.
âAlright, just set me up with a job, and I'll start tomorrow,â Alaric immediately responded.
âYou serious about working at my place?â Ethan was surprised. It was just a joke, but Alaric took it seriously.
Alaric was the scion of the Falconer Group, once a vice president. For someone who had lived in luxury his whole life, was he really ready to settle for a minor position?
âWhat, you think I was joking?â Alaric asked Ethan seriously.
In Alaricâs eyes, Ethan saw not the flirtatiousness one might expect but a calm, still lake. Ethan knew then that Alaric meant business. As friends, Ethan certainly couldn't let Alaric starve.
âIt just so happens we're launching a new jewelry line, and the team's all green. They could use a project manager. You start tomorrow,â Ethan said.
âAren't you worried about your team taking issue with me parachuting in as manager?â Alaric asked.
âHa, with the Falconer Group's VP stepping in to manage our little project, who'd complain? They should be thankful I'm not accused of wasting talent,â Ethan quipped.
Alaric just smiled, saying nothing.
...
A month later.
Thalassa took over the incomplete jewelry design project from Hertha and finished the design within a month. The company was thrilled with Thalassa's designs, attracting bids from three competing firms.
The design department manager asked Thalassa to meet with the first company's representative to discuss the design concept, hoping to spark their interest in purchasing.
At seven in the evening, Thalassa arrived at the designated restaurant. The company representative hadn't arrived yet, so she waited at a table by the window.
About ten minutes later, a rugged male voice said, âThalassa, is that you?â
Turning around, Thalassa saw a man in a navy-blue suit. His physique was robust, evidence of regular workouts, and a neatly trimmed mustache sat above his lips, his thick eyebrows adding to his masculine aura.
Thalassa recognized him immediately - Joshua's son, Reginald Whitman, her half-brother! It had been three years since they last met.
Thalassa was surprised. âMr. Whitman, what are you doing here?â
âCalling me Mr. Whitman feels so formal. Just call me Reginald,â he said casually, taking a seat opposite her.
âI was here to meet with a jewelry designer about a project. I didnât expect to find you sitting here.
Could it be that you're the designer?â Reginald asked, setting his briefcase down, his tone even.
Thalassa replied, a bit lost, âThe main designer is my best friend. She got injured, so I'm here to present the design concept on her behalf.â
âReginald, why didnât you wait for me?â Another man approached them just as Thalassa finished speaking.
