Chapter 232: 225: Missing her, missing her, missing her, missing her (first update) Chapter 232: 225: Missing her, missing her, missing her, missing her (first update) He Dongzhou said that Wen Changling had moved out of the Qin Family.
The documents in his hands hadnât been flipped through in a long time, and Xie Shangâs mind was not at ease, unable to concentrate. He closed the materials, opened the incense burner, and lit the Chinese honeycomb inside.
Lately, he had often been lighting this incense, not just twenty-one times, and had already developed a habit. He estimated that in the future, as soon as he smelled the scent of gardenias, he would think of Wen Changling.
The mobile phone on the desk rang.
Xie Shang took off his glasses, leaned back in his chair, tilted his head back, resting it on the backrest, his Adamâs apple just visible above the black turtleneck. He turned on the speakerphone.
Gu Yihuan asked him over the phone, âBrother Four, are you going to the New Yearâs Carnival tomorrow night?â
âNo,â he replied.
He wasnât interested.
Apart from Miss Wen, aside from doing what he must to be worthy of standing by her side, Xie Shang had no interest in anything else and didnât want to be involved.
âCome on, you havenât hung out in so long.â
âFind someone else to go with you, Iâm busy,â Xie Shang said.
Being busy was the truth; there was a lawyers-themed event tomorrow, organized by the Lawyers Association and hosted by KE Law Firm.
Gu Yihuan hadnât seen Xie Shang in a long while and complained, âAll you do is work, work, and more work. You donât go out for fun or to meet new people. How are you going to find a girlfriend like this?â
The girlfriend Gu Yihuan referred to meant a new love, not an old flame.
Xie Shang raised his hand to block out the light, âNot looking.â
The scent of the Chinese honeycomb had a quick effect on him. Emotions and thoughts restrained by his rationality began to spread wildly again. Planting a seed of yearning each day, he wondered if after filling a whole mountain with them, Wen Changling would come to take a look.
âAre you still pining for that heartless woman?â
How appropriate the question was.
Xie Shang answered, âYeah,â missing her dearly.
ââ¦â
Without a struggle. Gu Yihuan hung up the phone in frustration.
Jhiangâs had gone bankrupt.
Jhiang Youyou thought it should be celebrated by everyone.
After checking the wards, she went to the nurseâs station, âThereâs a New Yearâs Carnival at Zhenghe Square tomorrow night, are you coming? My treat.â
The weather bureau predicted a centennial snowstorm around New Yearâs Eve for safety considerations, the timing of the New Yearâs Carnival had been moved forward.
Zhenghe Square could accommodate tens of thousands of people, and the New Yearâs Carnival was always crowded, with tickets difficult to come by.
Jiahui was excited, âYou got tickets?â
âMy sister gave them to me.â
Jhiang Youyouâs brother-in-lawâs family made craft beer, and her brother-in-law sponsored the carnivalâs alcohol.
âThatâs great, I was worried I couldnât get a ticket.â Jiahui was looking forward to it, âAside from you and me, will there be anyone else?â
Jhiang Youyou had three tickets, âIâll invite Changling too.â
The next day, the outdoor temperature dropped to three degrees.
Wen Changling was sensitive to the cold and didnât really want to go. But Jiahui nagged and pleaded, leaving her unable to refuse.
The three agreed to meet at the A2 subway entrance of the square at six oâclock. With the temperature at three degrees outside, Jiahui was wearing boots and a short skirt, with just a leather jacket on top, looking stunning but freezing.
Her other two companions, however, were bundled up like cocoons.
âNo way, thereâs electronic music and dancing tonight, arenât you two wearing too much?â she said.
Wen Changling tucked her face into her scarf, âSo cold.â
Wen Changlingâs chilliness aside, Jiahui turned to Jhiang Youyouâthe woman who danced wildest at the nightclubs and dressed in the hottest and most provocative outfits.
Jhiang Youyou put on her long down jacketâs hood, tightened the drawstrings, refusing to let in a whiff of cold air, âIâm in a special condition, canât catch a cold.â
Jiahui thought Jhiang Youyou was on her period.
âSo you two arenât going to dance?â she asked.
Wen Changlingâs silver-tipped hair fluttered in the wind, making her look like she was in a film with a night filter, shivering, âSo cold.â
Recently, Jhiang Youyou had stopped wearing high heels, but her height and figure spoke for themselves â she would look good in a sack, âSpecial condition, canât dance.â
Night outings are tough, Jiahui sighed.
She pulled out four heat packs from her bag, giving two to each Wen Changling and Jhiang Youyou.
Wen Changling happily accepted them, âThanks, Jiahui.â
Such a good girl.
Jiahui had the odd feeling sheâd taken her daughter out to play.
Zhenghe Square had a circular layout, and this carnivalâs theme was MASK music with the stage set up in the middle of the squareâs lawn, surrounded by stands. The left and right outside were activity areasâa food street and market stalls on the left and immersive games on the right.
Since the theme was MASK music, the organizers gave out a mask for free to every attendee.
Jiahui complained, âThe masks given out by the organizers are so ugly, such cheap plastic.â She refused to wear the unattractive thing, âThere are masks for sale over there, letâs go there.â
Jiahui ran forward excitedly.
Jhiang Youyou followed behind, hand on her belly, âGo slower.â
Wen Changling couldnât help but glance at her stomach, âDo you feel anything?â
âNothing.â
It was still too early to show a baby bump. Jhiang Youyou had an appointment over the weekend to confirm the location of the gestational sac and to verify an intrauterine pregnancy.
When she walked quickly, she would inexplicably cover her still-flat belly, thinking, âItâs psychological.â
Nearby were many little stalls selling masks, with a variety of styles. Wen Changling chose a fox mask, quite plain, without patterns, cold white in color, with the chilling sense of white bones, but it matched her silver-tipped hair and deep black eyes, beautiful yet slightly frightening.
âLetâs go to the food street first, I deliberately didnât eat so Iâd have room.â Jiahui picked a cabbage leaf mask; her face was round, with single lids but big eyes, and she was very cute when she laughed, âI could eat a whole cow right now.â
The three went off to find food together.
Jiahui wanted to try everything, going from one stall to the next.
Wen Changling felt so cold, and Jhiang Youyou always guarded against people bumping her stomach, so they both roamed slowly.
Indeed.
