Chapter 156: 150: His future wife can only be Wen Changling (first update) Chapter 156: 150: His future wife can only be Wen Changling (first update) Pang Shifangâs sports car had a high-end configuration, equipped with a smart system, a field of technology that Wen Changling excelled in.
Wen Changling remotely hacked into Pang Shifangâs car and overheard a conversation.
âYou leave tomorrow,â Pang Shifangâs voice sounded.
There was another person in the car, a man, âWith just this amount of money, you expect me to go abroad and whistle in the wind.â
âSo how much do you want?â
âIt canât be less than this amount.â
Pang Shifang immediately snapped, âDo you think Iâm an ATM? Thereâs a limit to being greedy.â
The man spoke in a rascally tone, with a hint of resignation, âThen I might as well not go.â
This was extortion.
Pang Shifang fell silent for a moment, then, compromising, he said, âI canât come up with that much cash at the moment. Give me three days.â He told the man, âCome back in three days to get the money.â
The man whistled as he got out of the car.
Wen Changling speculated that this person demanding money from Pang Shifang must be Dong Wanlong. Dong Wanlong was so brazen in asking for money, he probably had some leverage over Pang Shifang.
The enemy of an enemy is a friend.
Wen Changling spent two nights monitoring and located Dong Wanlongâs residence: at Shaxi North, Guoan Avenue, The Third Middle School. It wasnât a real school; it was an abandoned school transformed into a community, situated in a remote location, inhabited mainly by tenants from out of town.
The evening of September 18th, 10:54 PM.
Wen Changling waited in his car while Fu Ying entered the community alone. There were indeed security booths at the entrance, but the guard on duty was a retired old man who had already started nodding off, oblivious to the blaring radio he had forgotten to turn off.
This area was too isolated; after the railway construction, those who could move had left, and at night, hardly anyone was around.
âYueyue, have you arrived?â
âIâm here.â
Fu Ying had reached the fifth floor.
The car was parked far away, and Wen Changling was somewhat worried about Fu Yingâs situation, âThereâs no surveillance on your side, I canât help you from the car, I should come to find you.â
âNo need to come over, stay in the car and wait for me.â
Wen Changling thought for a moment, then agreed.
Although she wasnât there to fight, in case of an emergency, being with Fu Ying would only cause her to hold back and inhibit her performance.
Fu Ying had already visited the location during the day, posing as a delivery person, and had found out exactly where Dong Wanlong lived: the innermost room on the fifth floor of the main building.
As it was a school converted into apartments, the corridors were long and the plaster was peeling off severely, the red lettering of âStudy Hardâ on the walls was flaking, and the sound-controlled lighting was broken, leaving everything in darkness.
Using her phoneâs light, Fu Ying found the room at the very end, and just as she was about to knock, the light from her phone illuminated a long bloodstreak on the wall, drawn by a finger.
The door wasnât locked; it was slightly ajar.
Wearing gloves, Fu Ying pushed open the door and shone her phone inside.
âChangling, weâre too late,â she said.
There was a pool of blood on the floor.
Worried about leaving footprints, Fu Ying didnât go in. Since the room was converted from a classroom without distinct areas, everything inside was visible at a glance. After checking from outside, Fu Ying returned to the car.
Fu Ying removed her gloves, âIt looks like heâs probably been murdered.â
Wen Changling sat in the back with a computer by his side, âYou didnât see a body?â
âThere was no body in the room, just blood.â
It was very strange.
Not seeing a body, doors left unlocked, and blood uncleaned, the killer didnât seem to worry about being discovered.
Wen Changling had been investigating Pang Shifang for some time now, and Pangâs most trusted person was his driver, Xu Zhonghan. Xu Zhonghan, while still a minor, had been sentenced to juvenile detention for intentional homicide, later transferred to prison. Though a serious offender, he didnât serve very long and had been working for Pang Shifang ever since his release, unmarried and childless, a ruthless character who had killed before.
âCould it be Xu Zhonghan?â
Fu Ying said it was possible.
This could be a murder case, so Wen Changling was very cautious, asking Fu Ying, âDid anyone see you when you went upstairs?â
âNo, I used the staircase and didnât encounter anyone all the way up.â
Those living inside were all tenants from other places, and there was almost no interaction between neighbors. Moreover, there were several construction sites nearby, which often operated overtime into the night. The community likely housed many workers from the construction sites, and among the four apartment buildings, not many lights were on.
âChangling,â Fu Ying held something in her hand, which she handed to Wen Changling, âI found this on the fifth-floor corridor.â
It was a bloodied business card.
The card had a pure black background with gold-embossed lettering.
Xie Shang didnât return home until almost twelve oâclock. Just as he locked the door, he heard Wen Changling calling him.
âXie Shang.â
Xie Shang looked up and saw Wen Changling sticking his head out, perched atop the courtyard wall.
He walked over, âWhat are you doing up there?â
Wen Changling was standing on a ladder, climbing over the wall.
Xie Shang, worried she might fall, steadied the ladder from inside the courtyard.
She climbed down smoothly and dusted off her hands, âWhy did you get back so late?â
Only one lamp by the entrance to the courtyard was lit, not bright enough for Wen Changling to see Xie Shangâs face clearly. He said, âNoon Ferry is holding a fragrance trial event. There was quite a lot to do.â
Wen Changling leaned in closer, sniffing like a puppy, âYou smell of perfume.â And quite strongly at that.
âI got it on me while blending scents.â
With her hands in her pockets, Wen Changling gave a very fair and objective appraisal, âYour job is certainly not girlfriend-friendly.â
His future girlfriend would only be Wen Changling.
âHow is it not girlfriend-friendly?â
It was extremely unfriendly.
Wen Changlingâs thoughts were erratic, yet her logic was impeccable, âIf you go out fooling around and come back smelling of another woman, you could just blame your work when caught.â
Xie Shangâs voice was tinged with amusement, âI donât fool around.â
She spoke earnestly, with gentle firmness, âMenâs mouths lie like ghosts deceive.â
Although the light was dim, Wen Changling still noticed a drop of blood on Xie Shangâs sleeve.
She didnât point it out, âIâm going back to sleep.â She stepped on the ladder, and as Xie Shang came over to steady it, she turned back, âGood night, Boss Xie.â
Then, she climbed back over into her own courtyard.
The next day, at 6:42 AM, nine kilometers away from Shaxi North Guoan Avenue, at Zhangxi Road Garden, many early-rising seniors were practicing tai chi.
Someoneâs pet dog, not on a leash, was rummaging through and had knocked over a trash bin, scattering garbage everywhere.
The dogâs owner was somewhat distraught, âDoudou, youâre rummaging through the trash again!â
Doudou, a husky, scampered off.
His owner, speechless, went to clean up and noticed a suspicious black object. She leaned in closer to take a look, âWhatâs this?â
She nudged the bag open with her foot and didnât quite see what was inside at first glance. Leaning closer, she screamed in horror upon realizing what it was, her legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground.
âItâs, itâs a⦠human hand.â
It was a hand chopped into two pieces.
At 9:28 AM, a cleaning lady from âThe Third Middle School Communityâ property management was collecting the hallway trash. She saw blood on the wall of the fifth floor; following the trail, she pushed open a door and let out a shriek.
In one day, the Jingfeng Sub-bureau Criminal Investigation Team received reports of two incidents.
By evening, the informantsâ group on Lotus Pond Street had gathered to discuss a shocking and outrageous case.
The owner of the dried fruit shop was the storyteller, and her face was solemn and horrified as she spoke of the case, âI heard the victim was chopped into many pieces. The chopped hand was thrown in a park trash bin and dragged out by a dog, while the rest of the body parts were scattered elsewhere.â
The reporters arrived promptly, and the news was already online.
The owner of the grain and oil shop even abandoned his business to join the conversation, âHave they found the rest of the body?â
âThe police are still searching. They said park surveillance caught it allâa man in black clothes and a black hat. He rode a motorbike with several black bags tied to it; probably the rest of the pieces were thrown far away.â
The owner of the noodle shop rubbed her arms, goosebumps all over, her double chin emerging in fear, âIs it that twisted? Itâs not enough to kill someone; he actually went andââ
She dared not even say it; it was too ghastly.
The brother-in-law of the owner of the dried fruit shopâs sister-in-law works for the Criminal Investigation Team, âThe dismemberment was likely to conceal the identity of the deceased.â
That very night, the forensic report came out. The two cases were of the same victim.
âThe identity of the deceased has been confirmed.â
The detective in charge of the case, Lin Yaoping, said, âDong Wanlong, male, 45 years old.â
