stretching out
over the miles of cooking road
on the stone,
i saw you.
a sheet of water,
to reward my adventure
of finding you.
as i trudged on and on,
i battled waves of heat,
dust blowing in my face,
but needless to say,
i fought against the million odds.
at last, we are united,
but as i reach for a sip,
you vanish before me,
and you are further down the road.
i tell myself,
"i don't want to waste my life
chasing a mirage."
but i do anyway,
never acknowledging the fact
that real water flows
within rivers.
is this what they call love?
constantly chasing things
you think are real?
if it is,
then it is all merely an illusion.
one thing,
is for certain, though.
we all
want,
we all
chase,
and we all
race,
to find
the real currents of water
in our lives.
