It was the Hundred Flower Banquet set up for the eldest princess, so certain things couldnât be avoided.
Not to mention that the eldest princess had spoken about them to the emperor and felt that they were a good pair.
In the end, the emperor bestowed an engagement to them. Even if the previous hostâs father wasnât willing, he couldnât go against the emperorâs orders.
The matter of the previous host and Mo Ye had been set.
When the previous host reached adulthood, the fourth prince would marry her.
He seriously said, âI canât repay you for treating me like this. My life belongs to you from now on.â
She just shook her head with a smile, âI donât want your life, itâs fine as long as youâre good to me. I donât want brocaded clothes, luxurious food, wealth, or honour, Iâm fine as long as weâre together!â
âI will always be by your side and will never throw you away.â
Mo Yeâs words kept ringing in her mind in the days that followed.
Just like a hot needle that pierced her heart bit by bit.
Very painful, but also a bit warm.
In the twenty eighth year of Mo Gong Yiâs reign, the eldest princess died of sickness. The Feng Dynasty started eyeing the Mo Dynasty and wanted to send troops on a false crime.
After Mo Gong Yi learned of this matter, he decided to send a hostage prince to the Feng Dynasty.
It was to express their friendship on one hand and to monitor the enemy on the other hand.
In the court, only those with power could survive.
After so many years, Mo Gong Yiâs twenty or so princes started running out.
There were only three left now.
One was the crown prince, one was the fourth prince, and one was the eighth prince.
The power in the court was divided between the crown prince and the eighth prince. Since the eighth prince was born to his favourite concubine Li, he naturally couldnât go to the Feng Dynasty. The crown prince was the future heir of the Mo Dynasty, so that was even more impossible.
By process of elimination, the only one who could go was Mo Ye.
âBut this one once gave the fourth prince an engagement.â Mo Gong Yi hesitated a bit.
Concubine Li shook her head and said, âNow that the eldest princess is gone, that engagement isnât worth anything.â
In the end, the emperor overturned his previous edict and ordered Mo Ye to go to the Feng Dynasty as a hostage prince.
That night, the previous host wept under the peach blossom tree that they drank wine most frequently under.
Mo Ye walked towards her step by step and patted her head under the moonlight, âDonât cry. Wait for me to come back.â
âI will wait, I will definitely wait for you.â
Mo Ye had told her that he would make a difference on this trip to the Feng Dynasty.
He no longer wanted to be a useless person that others could slaughter, even not being able to protect his most important person.
She would have come to age in another year, there was clearly only a year before their wedding.
They didnât care if they were rich or poor, they feared nothing if they were together.
It was a pity that god didnât give them that chance. Three days later, he had no choice but to go to the Feng Dynasty as a hostage prince.
Perhaps he might not come back his entire life.
Perhaps she would wait her entire life.
Perhaps this was the happy ending of the story.
But he did come back. He spent three years gathering power in the Feng Dynasty and by rescuing the Emperor Fengâs daughter, he made princess Feng Ling Er fall in love with him.
Emperor Feng loved his daughter and admired capable people. Mo Ye won every battle and had long lost his status as a hostage prince, becoming a famous general.
Three years later, when he came back to the Mo Dynasty, there was someone else that came with him. He had to bring back Feng Ling Er.
