This was not what they had speculated.
If Jiang Yu really had been administering medication to Qin Youxuan all this time, then her original intent wasnât to harm her body.
What could possibly be wrong hereâ¦
âDan Hanjie, youâve been looking at this for a long time. What are you thinking about?â Qin Youxuan waved her small hand in front of him, looking at him with a puzzled tilt of the head.
ââ¦Nothing much.â Dan Hanjie closed the album in his hand, placing it back in the cabinet.
âIs this album the only thing your mother left for you?â
âNo, thereâs more. Iâll show you.â
Like presenting a treasure, Qin Youxuan turned out all the cherished items she had collected over the years.
She placed each item before Dan Hanjie.
âThese are what my mom bought for meâ¦â
âThese are the things my mom made for me by handâ¦â
âAnd these, Iâm not exactly sure how I got them, but theyâre all memories my mom left for me.â
There were toys, scarves, hand-knitted sweatersâ¦
Even her school notebooks and certificates from childhood.
Qin Youxuan pointed to the table full of items, her smile became genuine, tinged with a hint of melancholy.
She could feel it. Her mom had loved her since she was a child.
But the mom who loved her so much, had left her behind in the endâ¦
Qin Youxuanâs gaze grew dim.
âThese seem to be all your things.â Dan Hanjie glanced at the objects she had placed on the table and furrowed his brows slightly.
They were small and insignificant items.
These little trinkets didnât seem to hold any collectible value.
âMhm, but they were all left by my mom.â
Qin Youxuan sniffled, looking towards him, âWhen my mom passed away, as I was sorting out her belongings, I realized she didnât leave anything of her own behind. But over the years, she kept every memento of my growth. Everyone said that by looking at the things she left for me, one could trace the course of my childhood development, that all her love was spent on meâ¦â
ââ¦â
Dan Hanjieâs heart clenched and he pulled Qin Youxuan, who was choked with emotion, into his arms.
His gaze swept over the table once more, and suddenly a thought popped into his mind.
All these items documented Qin Youxuanâs growth since childhood. Jiang Yu did this probably to retain every footprint of her daughterâs growth as a form of remembrance and a tribute to the man she deeply loved but missed out on his daughterâs growth.
âAside from these small items, did your mother leave you anything special?â
ââ¦â
Qin Youxuan, leaning against him, seemed somewhat melancholic. She tilted her head and thought for a while before shaking her head, âI donât seem to have anything else.â
Dan Hanjie glanced down at the person in his arms, trying to hide her sleepiness, picked her up, and placed her on the bed.
âStay with me.â Qin Youxuanâs small hand clung tightly to his shirt.
âAlright.â
Dan Hanjie was accustomed to her insecurities now, and naturally lay down next to her.
He gently rubbed her head.
Feeling unwell, both physically and emotionally, Qin Youxuan mumbled a few words before falling asleep.
ââ¦â
Dan Hanjie stared at her for a long while before getting out of bed.
Stepping out of the room, he saw Jin Chenye waiting outside the door, holding a bowl of soup in his hand which was still steaming.
It seemed like he was hesitating whether to go in or not.
Upon seeing Dan Hanjie come out of the room, Jin Chenye was visibly taken aback for a moment.@@novelbin@@
The next second, he regained his composure, âI can see sheâs not feeling well. This is the soup made in the kitchen, it will make her feel better after she drinks it.â
