âYouâve been with me for more than a year or two. After Bai Huo died, you stayed by my side. I thought that out of respect for the dead, you wouldnât dare betray me.â
Dan Hanjieâs voice was cold and indifferent, his slender legs gracefully shifting position, fingers toying with a miniature handgun, the barrel aimed directly at the butlerâs brow.
ââ¦â
The butlerâs eyes were dim, flashing with a hint of guilt, mist rising at their corners.
He clenched his teeth, offering no explanation.
He was originally the butler of the private Bai Family villa and had looked after Bai Huo since childhood.
Later, because Bai Huo wanted to come to Fico City and he was concerned for his safety, he accompanied him.
No one expected Bai Huo to suddenly die. Dan Hanjie kept all of Bai Huoâs people on, and only after an investigation did the butler move into Yujing Villa.
Over the years, the butler had been efficient and utterly loyal.
Everyone knew that Dan Hanjie trusted him, not just for his abilities, but also because of Bai Huoâs influence.
But nobody expected, he would become a ticking time bomb at Dan Hanjieâs sideâ¦
âBai Huo is dead. Iâm sure of it.â
Dan Hanjie put down his gun, raising an indifferent eyebrow at him.
The butler raised his head in agitation, his old eyes bulging, âMr. Bai isnât deadâ¦â
He paused midway, a bit of embarrassment showing.
His eyes flickered.
âSo, you believe that the dead can be resurrected, and thatâs why you were manipulated to betray me.â Dan Hanjieâs voice was light, but each word held heavy implications, making it hard for anyone to look up.
âMr. Jieâ¦â
The butler bowed his head deeply, his face full of guilt.
Bai Huo was the one he raised with his own hands, a bond that no one else understood.
âMr. Bai is already dead. We are quite certain of this. It doesnât matter whoâs contacting you, this is just a trap to attack Mr. Jie. Butler, youâve been foolish!â
Yao clenched his teeth furiously, the thought of their near-assassinations made his hands ball into fists.
He held back the urge to rush forward and give the butler a good beating.
âMr. Bai isnât! I saw it with my own eyesâ¦â
The butler spoke fervently, his old eyes filled with tears, âItâs Mr. Bai, I canât be mistaken.â
âJust because of one face?â Yao angrily tossed a pile of photos in front of the butler. âThen you better open your eyes wide and take a good look. Besides the face, how does the man in these pictures resemble Mr. Bai? Youâve been blinded by idiocy you fool!â
âNo, itâs not like that. Iâve seen him myself, he looks exactly like Mr. Bai, even the way he talks to me is the same. Mr. Bai isnât dead!â
âIf heâs not dead, he definitely wouldnât be working against Mr. Jie!â
Furious, Yao strode forward, grabbed the butler by the collar, âDonât forget how Mr. Bai risked his life to save Mr. Jie back then. For someone who canât even prove his true identity, you betray Mr. Jie. Do you realize, you almost got the person killed whom Mr. Bai protected with his life!â
Yao shoved the butler to the ground and spit, âMr. Bai should come back to life just to see your ungrateful face!â
ââ¦â
The butler stared at the floor, stunned by Yaoâs torrent of verbal abuse.
Both of his hands trembled as he picked up the pictures scattered on the floor.
Each one was enlarged.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
The expressions were unmistakably clear.
Especially the smug smile on Wu Qingâs face that would never appear on the righteous face of Bai Huoâ¦
The same face, yet completely different auras.
They were not the same person at allâ¦
