His deep voice, resounding like a cello, had a comforting effect.
Jin Lan became significantly calmer, though she continued clutching anxiously at the hem of his clothes.
Qin Youxuan quietly released a sigh of relief.
âShe said, saidâ¦â
Jin Lan pointed towards Meng Ziqi, struggling to express herself, but was interrupted by Jin Chenyeâs raised hand.
âMom, I know what you want to ask. Iâll explain everything slowly later.â
âYe, the news has already reported that Qin Youxuan is not Mr. Qinâs daughter. What more is there to explain?â Meng Ziqi added fuel to the fire without any hesitation.
She couldnât wait for Jin Chenye to kick Qin Youxuan out of the Qin Family home.
âMiss Meng, whether Youxuan is my sister is our familyâs business. You need not trouble yourself over it. Besides, my motherâs health is currently unstable and she canât bear any shocks. If you really care about her, it would be best if you could refrain from visiting her recently, as she canât handle your constant instigating. If thereâs nothing else, I wonât keep you any longer. Feel free to leave at your convenience.â
Jin Chenyeâs aloof tone and his expression of dissatisfaction left Meng Ziqi stunned.
âYe, you wouldnât have been branded as an illegitimate child if it werenât for Qin Youxuan. She took your position, yet you still protect herâ¦â
âHavenât you said enough?â Jin Chenye barked, silencing Meng Ziqi, who had never seen him lose his temper before.
She widened her eyes and dared not to utter a single word.
âIf youâre so fond of listening to the reporters, bother yourself to read todayâs newspaper before speaking again!â
Jin Chenye said as he tossed several newspapers in front of Meng Ziqi.
The bold headlines caught her eyes.
[Mysterious identity of Qin heiress, Qin Group faces another wave of troubles]
[Fake evidence, reputation of Miss Qin is tarnished, possibly manipulated by detractor]
The headlines of each newspaper were different, but they all conveyed the same information.
Qin Youxuan was indeed Miss Qin, and all previous allegations were merely a trap set up by others. The Qin Family was finally ready to step up and clarify the situation.
âHow could this beâ¦â
Meng Ziqi picked up the newspapers, flipping through them one by one, her mind going blank in shock.
âIâd like to know how it could be as well. The Qin Family currently has some family matters to handle, Iâm afraid we wonât be able to entertain you, Miss Meng. Butler, please show her out.â Jin Chenye did not bother looking at Meng Ziqiâs discomposed face, his angry gaze fixed on Qin Youxuan.
âYeâ¦â
Seeing the exchanged looks between them, Meng Ziqi gritted her teeth in anger. Realising that Jin Chenye was losing his temper, she dared not anger him further and left first.
With Meng Ziqiâs instigation removed, Jin Lanâs emotional roller coaster settled down somewhat.
She continued gripping Jin Chenyeâs hand, eager for answers.
âMom, I know what you want to ask. Why donât you rest first, and Iâll explain everything to you later?â Jin Chenyeâs gaze shifted from Qin Youxuan to Jin Lan in her wheelchair. He comfortingly held her hand and patted the back of it gently.
Upon seeing Jin Lan nod her head, he motioned for the butler to wheel her away.
âIâm full. Iâll return to my room first.â
Seeing that they were the only two left in the dining room, Qin Youxuan quickly found an excuse to leave, recalling the jealously of Dan Hanjie.
She caught sight of the newspapers on the floor out of the corner of her eye and paused.
The next second, Jin Chenye stepped in front of her, blocking her way.
âWhatâs the rush? Hearing you, it reminds me of the phrase âguilty conscienceâ.â
