âMove aside!â Dan Hanjieâs voice was low, and his bewitching face was cold.
âYou
dream on!â
Jin Chenye stood his ground, his face full of resolution.
He had already missed one chance; he could not let himself miss a second.
âYouxuan, this is your home. Even if you and your father donât share a blood ties, he has raised you for many years. The love between a father and a daughter, are you going to abandon all of it?â Jin Chenyeâs gentle eyes gazed at Qin Youxuan who had been silent all this while and softly persuaded.
Ever since confirming that she was not Qin Moâs biological daughter, Qin Youxuan had been in a daze, seemingly insensitive to the outside world. Dumbstruck, she stared forward with wide eyes, entirely lost in her thoughts.
If it were not for Dan Hanjie supporting her, she would have lost balance.
Jin Chenye wished to pull her into his embrace, but heâs afraid he would frighten her.
He could only stand still, not daring to make any dramatic moves.
âWhat a touching remark about a fatherâs love,â
Dan Hanjie let out a cold laugh. âIf you truly cared about a fatherâs love, you wouldnât have been focused only on welcoming back your biological son, leaving your daughter neglected. Now, talking about a fatherâs love, isnât it a bit too late?â
ââ¦â
Jin Chenye furrowed his eyebrows, glancing at Qin Mo, who hadnât spoken since Dan Hanjie appeared.
Qin Mo remained silent, his elderly eyes reflecting guilt as he stared at Qin Youxuan snuggled in Dan Hanjieâs embrace. After a long while, he finally spoke in a low tone.
âI am not a qualified father. Back then, to be with Yeâerâs mother, I made an agreement with Yuâer to only have a marriage in name so that Youxuan could be born smoothly and grow up happily as Miss Qin. But then Yuâer⦠â
Qin Mo paused, choking back a sob.
A living person, gone just like that. It was painful for him, too.
For many years, he had always treated Jiang Yu as his own sister.
âWe were not truly husband and wife yet we lived together all these years. Yuâer always knew about my extramarital affair and even covered up for me. Thanks to that, we were able to live peacefully all these years. Yuâer was thoughtful and gentle. Although we didnât have a private relationship, we were already like family. I promised her that I would never tell Youxuan about her origin in this lifetime, allowing her to live as Miss Qin, safe and sound, unless that man comes back.â
Qin Mo propped his arms on the table, then fiercely slammed his fists on the table.
The turbulent emotions were too much for him to bear, and he turned purple.
âI was useless. After Yuâer left, Youxuan blamed everything on Yeâerâs mother. In a fit of anger, she went abroad, and for all these years, weâve hardly spoken a hundred sentences between us.â
Even if he wanted to love and care for his daughter, he was powerless to do so.
Moreover, while his non-biological daughter could live openly and honorably as Miss Qin, his biological son bore the stigma of being an illegitimate child, scorned by societyâ¦
Jin Lan also lived with him for more than half of her life without any legal recognition.
He owed more than just one person.
ââ¦â
The study fell into silence.
Jin Chenyeâs face turned gray, as if he had just learned the truth for the first time.
His hands were clenched into tight fists.
âFatherâ¦â
Qin Youxuanâs numb eyes gradually showed a reaction, and she looked towards Qin Mo.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
She pushed Dan Hanjie slightly, wanting to break free from his embrace.
Dan Hanjie let her go without stopping her. He stepped aside, allowing her to stand in front of Qin Mo.
