âKnock knockâ
âWhoâs there?â
Who could it be knocking on her door so late at night?
Qin Youxuan was lying in bed, looking at her reports when she heard knocking sounds from outside. She quickly sat up.
After two eerie knocks, there was silence.
âAm I hallucinating?â she thought. Qin Youxuan pinched herself, got up, and walked to the door, then opened it.
She was stunned to see Jin Lan standing outside.
âWhat are you doing knocking on my door so late at night?â
âQin Youxuan, Iâm going to kill youâ
âYouâre insane!â
Qin Youxuan was about to close the door when Jin Lan used her strength to stop it, reaching out and grabbing her by the throat.
âAh!â
Caught off guard by Jin Lanâs sudden attack as she was turning to close the door, Qin Youxuan was startled.
âWhat the hell is wrong with you, let goâ¦cough, cough!â
Still holding her throat, Jin Lan dragged her out of the room. Gasping for breath, Youxuan yelled.
Just as she was about to call for help, her voice choked off.
She tried hard to pry Jin Lanâs hands off her.
Breaking free, Qin Youxuan spun around and threw Jin Lan onto the coffee table in the living room.
âJin Lan, if youâre insane, go see a doctor, and stop taking it out on me! Wanting to kill me?! Iâve dreamt of tearing you to pieces!â She exclaimed furiously, clutching her aching neck.
If it werenât for not wanting to dirty her hands, sheâd have slapped her right then and there.
Sheâs a crazy woman!
âIâm going to kill youâ
Jin Lan had a vacant expression, yet there was a glimpse of ominous intent in her eyes.
She supported herself with the coffee table, her gaze focused on the fruit knife in the tray. Suddenly, she grabbed it and stood up again.
âWhatâ¦whatâs wrong with you?â Qin Youxuan saw Jin Lan charging towards her, the bloodshot look in her eyes made her shudder.
She swiftly dodged, just barely avoiding the knife in Jin Lanâs hand, and then grabbed her wrist.
âHelp!â
Noticing something was off, Qin Youxuan yelled as loud as she could.
But her screams seemed to rile Jin Lan up even more and made her movements increasingly aggressive.
The knife was almost at her eyes now. She was pushed against the railing at the top of the stairs, pinned down forcefully.
âKill youâ¦kill youâ¦â
âJin Lan, wake up! If you kill me, you wonât survive either!â Qin Youxuanâs face was turning red, her body immobilized under Jin Lanâs weight. All she could do was to tightly grip her wrists.
The sharp knife was inching closer to her eyes, only a fraction away from piercing her eyeballs.
She tried to avoid it, but found herself unable to move.
If this kept up, she would surely be killed by this crazed woman!
Qin Youxuan managed to think quickly and didnât hesitate to kick Jin Lan away.
âAh!â Jin Lan was kicked on her knee which made her kneel.
The knife finally left Qin Youxuanâs face.
Watching these developments, Meng Ziqi who was hidden in the shadows felt her heart jumping into her throat.
It was only after withholding the returns of Qin Mo and Jin Chenye and drugging all the servants with knock-out drugs that she dared to give Jin Lan the Spirit Departure Powder.
This ancient Thai recipe turned into a drink would, following its effects, make the subject susceptible to suggestions and render them into a hypnotized state.
They would lose all reason, only remembering their most detested person, and would become a tool for murder.
She had spent a lot of effort to choose this drug.
It was initially intended for Qin Youxuan. Even if she couldnât kill Jin Lan, she could still be convicted of intentional injury and imprisonment would be inevitable.
