Chapter 2 of 54

A Night of Glitter and Smoke

One Shot Of Hope214 words~2 min read

The air thrummed with a low, insistent beat. Neon lights painted the smoky haze of "The Eclipse Lounge" in a kaleidoscope of colours. Aya, a shimmer of gold in a tight, sequined dress, navigated the throng of boisterous men, her smile as carefully practiced as her dance moves.  Four years. Four years of this, her only escape from the gnawing reality of her life. The whispers of "beautiful," "temptress," and "angel" from her patrons were the only things keeping her afloat, but the bitter taste of cheap champagne lingered long after the last drunkard left.

The bass thrummed against Aya’s chest, its beat resonating with her own restless energy. The music was a lifeline, a way to escape the suffocating weight of reality for a few fleeting hours. It was her temporary solace, a shield against the harsh realities of her life.

As the music swelled, her body moved with a fluid grace that belied the weariness in her soul.  She felt the eyes on her, the appreciative glances, the murmurings of admiration.  But behind the practised smile, behind the rhythm of her dancing, a flicker of defiance burned.  She wouldn’t let this life break her.  She had dreams, and she was determined to make them come true, one dance step at a time.
