Under relentless pressure from higher-ups to crack the case involving Wayne, the Chief felt cornered. Despite it being somewhat unconventional, he learned that Ms. Evadne was willing to try negotiating. Negotiations weren't her forte, but solving the case was paramount. Breaking protocol, he allowed her to meet with Wayne, hoping for a breakthrough.
Outside the interrogation room, through the one-way mirrorâ
Thaddeus and Aaron watched intently as Evadne faced off with the suspect. The tension and concern were palpable on the faces of these two seasoned agents.
Inside, Wayneâs gaze was dark and devoid of emotion as he stared at the strikingly attractive woman before him:
"Ms. Evadne, Iâve admitted to what Iâve done. I donât see what more there is to say between us."
"Director-General Wayne."
"Drop the title. In here, I'm nothing but a suspected murderer," Wayne said with a self-mocking laugh.
Yet, even in his diminished state, his posture was upright, his demeanor unyielding. Decades of navigating the treacherous waters of power had imbued him with a grace that couldnât be stripped away overnight.
"Alright, I'll address you as Mr. Jones then."
Evadneâs eyes were gentle, her manner respectful, "I believe that you didnât end up here because you're a bad person, but because you had no other choice."
"You're wrong. Every step I've taken in my life has been my own choice."
Wayne smirked, "Ms. Evadne, the only reason I agreed to see you, to sit here and listen to what I consider nonsense, is out of respect for the fact that you once saved my wifeâs life. I've confessed and am ready to face the consequences. That's all there is to say. Please leave."
From behind the glass, Thaddeus clenched his jaw, his fists tightening in silent frustration.
"Thaddeus, relax. I believe Evadne has a plan," Aaron, sensing his tension, reassured him with a pat on the shoulder.
Evadne steadied herself and placed a prepared report in front of Wayne.
"Whatâs this?" Wayne glanced down.

ï¤Chapter 2371 Predatory Nature Awake for Love: My Coma Bridegroom ï¤Chapter 664 "This is the monitoring report from a reputable institution on the miracle drug you pinned your hopes on," Evadneâs tone was calm, but her eyes were like twin stars piercing through the darkness, aiming straight at the manâs trembling soul.
"What are you talking about? A scam?" Wayne's jaw tightened.
"The report clearly states that this so-called miracle drug is nothing but a psychiatric sedative."
Evadneâs voice was firm, "It offers no cure for Alzheimer's, and can cause severe side effects. Overdose can even lead to poisoning. Thatâs why, since its release, there have been cases of users collapsing and dying from seizures. If it differs from a regular sedative in any way, itâs because its composition is more complex, containing three substances that are strictly banned in our country due to their addictive nature."
Her revelation hit Wayne like a thunderbolt, the implications of her words slowly sinking in, shaking the foundations of everything he thought he was protecting.
