Thaddeus and Avery's hearts skipped a beat, their eyes instinctively darting towards Evadne.
Both of them had a soft spot for her and could instantly tell she was upset. So, they withdrew from the auction, hands raised in surrender.
The auctioneer, sensing the moment, didn't wait for other reactions before making the final call, smoothly securing the necklace for Evadne.
After a moment of silence, the room erupted in applause.
Despite the applause, Evadne remained stoic, her eyes calm and unexcited.
"Mom! Evadne bought the fake necklace we put in! Does she know it's a counterfeit?" Glynnis was in a panic, her heart pounding like a rabbit's.
"Shut your mouth! Do you want the whole world to hear?" Elspeth hissed, her eyes filled with resentment. "Evadne certainly didnât realize the jewelry is fake. She didn't expect to encounter a counterfeit in her own auction. She just donated a million dollars to your good cause!â
Glynnis remained uneasy, "What if she finds out?"
âOnce the auction item leaves here, it has nothing to do with you! Who knows if it was switched or sheâs deliberately trying to smear you.â Elspeth whispered maliciously.
Seeing the necklace she had donated being bought by Evadne for a high price, Ada couldn't suppress a satisfied smirk.
She even thought that Evadne might still harbor some illusions about cooperating with her, otherwise, there was no reason to go this far.
At this moment, Evadne's young and spirited eyes darkened. She sent a message to Jason, and then casually adjusted her sitting posture like a spectator waiting for a show to begin.
As the red cloth was lifted, the auctioneer's enthusiastic speech came to an abrupt halt. He looked at the teardrop diamond in the display case, then back at his script. Something was wrong!
When the spotlight shone brightly on the glass case, people in the room gasped in surprise.
"Am I seeing things? Isn't this the necklace that Ada just donated?"
"That's right! It's the same one!"
"It's impossible! Each piece of Alea's jewelry is unique. How could there be two identical ones in the same auction?"
"So is it possible that one of them is a counterfeit?â
The room was abuzz with chatter. Everyone was pointing at the necklace in the display case.
Ada leaned forward in shock, staring at the necklace like she had been struck by lightning.
Elspeth and Glynnis were shocked to their core, their hands tightly gripping each other's, Glynnis had a cold sweat trickling down her spine.
The necklace she gave to Ada was a fake.
That only meant one thing. The necklace on stage must be the real one!
âMs. Evadne, didn't you verify the items before the auction? How could such a blunder happen?â Iris asked, her tone more of concern than accusation.
âAm I the one who didnât play by the rules? Or was it, Ms. Ada?â Evadne replied with a meaningful smile.
Iris gasped, "This necklace. could it be?â
As the room filled with astonishment, Evadne elegantly rose and walked to the stage.
Thaddeus watched the enchanting Evadne, his heart pounding under his tailored suit. Every inch of his skin felt like it was on fire.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, as the organizer of the Ethereal Vogue charity event, I apologize for this unfortunate mix-up that has caused a disruption to your experience," Evadne said, bowing deeply to the audience.
The room gradually fell silent.
"Secondly, the 'Whispering Waters Jewels' was donated by me personally," Evadne continued, her lips curling into a smile.
Everyone was taken aback, all eyes turning to Ada.
Ada was dumbstruck, her gaze shifting to Glynnis for help.
But Glynnis could only helplessly look in Edith's direction, only to find her seat empty!
Sensing trouble, Edith had slipped away!
Evadne looked down at the ridiculous circle of accusing glances, her lips curved in a smile, "Ms. Ada, I was not aware you'd be donating this necklace tonight, so this is indeed a coincidence. Please don't harbor any misunderstandings."
âPresident Ashbourne, why would you have a 'Whispering Waters Jewelsâ?â Ada asked, her confident demeanor fading quickly.
âMs. Ada, the key question now is not why I have this necklace, but that your necklace is a counterfeit," Evadne replied, her smile fading.
People in the room was shocked into silence.
Elspeth managed to keep her composure, but Glynnis was pale as a ghost!
âMy necklace was a gift from the Abernathy Group, how could it be a fake?" Ada protested, refusing to accept the fact.
âMs. Evadne! On what grounds are you claiming that the necklace my daughter gave to Ms. Ada is fake? You better have someone verify it before making such accusations! Otherwise, isn't this just slander?"
Elspeth could sense trouble brewing. With a stern look, she stepped forward to take control of the situation before it spiraled out of control.
"I wouldn't claim your necklace is a fake if I didn't have a way to prove it," Evadne responded, her voice calm.
Her eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint.
Thaddeus sat upright, his gaze fixed on Evadne's face, his lips curving slightly.
There it was again, that fox-like smirk. Whenever she wore that expression, she was up to something.
In the past, it would have annoyed him. Now, he found it endearing.
"Miss Evadne! You claim that Miss Glynnis's necklace is a fake. Do you have any evidence?"
"Ada is a seasoned jewelry collector. Wouldn't she be able to identify a counterfeit?"
"Exactly, Miss Evadne! You can't make such accusations without proof! The necklaces look identical. We should get an expert to examine them before jumping to conclusions!"
Evadne remained unfazed amidst the clamor.
Suddenly, the heavy doors of the hall swung open.

A blonde, blue-eyed beauty strode in, her high heels clicking against the floor, her presence commanding attention.
Thaddeus couldn't help but glance back. His pupils dilated in surprise.
Could it be Liva?
Why was Liva here?
"It's Miss Liva! The head of Alea Studio!" someone in the crowd exclaimed, causing a stir.
"Liva is here? She is the right-hand woman of Alea Studio. Who could be better suited to authenticate Alea's jewelry?"
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Liva walked straight towards Evadne.
Evadne greeted her with a serene smile and gracefully descended from the stage.
"Hi, Liva."
She greeted her warmly, to the surprise of the onlookers.
Liva stopped before her, lifted her hand and gently kissed it, a grand gesture of admiration and respect in Aetheria.
"I apologize for my tardiness, Miss Alea," Liva murmured.
