The air in the room turned suffocating.
I froze. My heart slammed against my ribs as his words sank in, poisoning every nerve in my body.
"You're carrying my baby, aren't you?"
I willed myself to laugh, to deny it, but the way he looked at meâsharp, knowing, like he had already pieced everything togetherâmade my stomach twist.
I lifted my chin. "You're insane."
He cocked his head, his tongue running over his bottom lip, studying me like a predator who had just cornered his prey.
"Am I?" He took a step closer, and my breath hitched. "Then why are you shaking, princess?"
I clenched my fists, forcing my voice to stay even. "You donât know anything."
His smirk was lethal. "Oh, but I do."
His fingers traced over my lower stomach, barely touching me, but it sent a violent shiver through my body.
"The way you disappeared after that night," he murmured. "The way you ran, like you had something to protect."
My lungs squeezed, panic creeping into my bones.
He can't know. He can't.
"You're wrong," I whispered.
His gaze darkened, and in a single heartbeat, I was against the wall. His hands braced on either side of me, caging me in.
"Youâve been lying to me, baby," he murmured. "And I don't take well to being lied to."
I swallowed hard, pressing my hands against his chest. "Let me go."
"Not until you tell me the truth." His lips were inches from mine, his breath hot against my skin. "You think you can keep my baby from me?"
I shoved at him, but he didnât move. He didnât even flinch.
"You're mine, princess," he whispered, dragging his knuckles down my cheek. "You were mine that night, and you're mine now."
I hated how my body betrayed me. How his voice sent a heat curling deep in my stomach.
I wanted to fight. To scream.
But all I could do was gasp when he pressed his lips to my ear and whispered the words that changed everything.
"You're coming with me."
