The black plague was a devastating epidemic which quickly spread through Europe and killed over 50 million people in the process.

When treating those with illness, "Plague Doctors" would wear masks that are in the form of a bird's beak.

The 'beak' of the mask was filled with lavender scent to cover the putrid smell of death.
