Snakel came out of the changing room to see Gu Mengmeng curled up pitifully in a chair. Bai Lan was standing beside the chair with her right hand propped on the back of the seat. Her thuggish and aggressive stance had Gu Mengmeng cowering. Bai Lan clutched Gu Mengmengâs shoulder and vigorously shook her, scolding fiercely. âGu Mengmeng, let me tell you, if you bother about him now, you are not just stupid, you are cheap! Have you forgotten how your stepfather refused to give you money for your school fees during your first year of junior middle school, forcing you to seek him outâwhat happened in the end? His mistress slapped you right in public. Your ears rang for three days straight while the swelling in your left cheek took a week to subside. And to what end? Even after that slap, he still didnât give you a single cent, right? When I went with you to thrash it out with him, what did he say? He said you deserved to be slapped for being disrespectful to your elders, that you didnât address his mistress as mother?! He claimed that it was natural for a mother to discipline her daughter and that speaking bad about her in public reflected your poor upbringing. That they had gone light on you already, right?â
Gu Mengmeng nodded with red-rimmed eyes.
Bai Lan hollered belligerently. âDidnât I ask him then? Forcing you to call motherâa slut who broke up your family and turned you from a happy kid to a pitiful orphanâwas he so shameless? How did he reply me, tell me yourself.â
Gu Mengmeng bit her bottom lip and whimpered. âHe said he definitely would not have divorced my mother if I had been a son. I only had myself to blame for being a girl and unable to carry on the family name... I cannot blame him for my own weakness.â
âWhat else?!â Bai Lan was unrelenting.
Gu Mengmengâs tears kept flowing as she said in a hoarse voice, âHe told me not to be as shameless as my mother. That I was not a son so what right did I have to spend his money... he told me never to appear before him again in case I disrupt the harmony of his family... he said every single penny of his would be left to his son.â
âSo why is he seeking you out now?!â Bai Lan gritted her teeth as her own eyes became bloodshot from staring at Gu Mengmeng. She pitied Gu Mengmengâs misfortunes but at the same time was very angry at her failure to fight back. She steeled her heart, but in the end couldnât bear to continue reprimanding Gu Mengmeng. Bai Lan hugged her. âGirl, let me tell you. You cannot be so timid. It doesnât matter why he suddenly sought you out, you cannot pay him any heed. Otherwise, your soft heart would be the death of you soon or later.â
âI know... I know...â Gu Mengmeng nodded as she wiped her tears.
Today was a normal training day and after the previous experience, there were now professional guards manning the doors of the basketball club during practice hours, to stop outsiders from entering.
There was no choice. Snakel was of exalted status and he said he didnât like being surrounded by crowds. As a result, the school had to accede to his request.
So only the basketball club members witnessed Gu Mengmengâs heavy sobbing.
Zhan Jin Cheng turned pale at th sight of Bai Lan scolding Gu Mengmeng. He was terrified that Snakel would lose control of himself and give Bai Lan one flying kick.
He was already mentally prepared to shield Bai Lan and take her place as a punching bag for Snakel to vent his anger.
Luckily Snakel only looked very grim, but didnât make any moves.
Bai Lan held Gu Mengmeng and allowed her cry for a long while until she finally vented out all the grievances she held in her heart. Bai Lan then exhaled and said, âCall me the next time he comes looking for you. I will help you chase him off. You are not allowed to meet him alone, understand?â
