The Beast Deity laughed somewhat sheepishly and rubbed his own nose. âTo get the Love of the Sky, you must first be able to reach the skies. You and your partners do not possess such a skill, and only vultures can bring you to the Love of the Sky. But the problem is that vultures usually do not even appear in places within your reach. As for the Spirit of the Rocky Cliffs... you have no clue about it at all right? According to the rules, I cannot disclose information about things you donât know of. So...â
Gu Mengmeng held her forehead. âSo now I have no choice but to go find the Heart of the Desert, right?â
The Beast Deity nodded. âThe good news is that Bi An knows the vulture people. If you can get Bi An to like you, he will have some way of letting you meet the Vulture race.â
Gu Mengmengâs eyes brightened. âThe Vulture race are the people closest to the sky and to the Beast Deity. So they must be your greatest fans? I can drop your name in front of them to gain some brownie points, right?â
The Beast Deity didnât know whether to laugh or cry at Gu Mengmengâs words. She was behaving like a real-life daughterâimpish and willful, not bothering to mince her words. Her official and proper manner as the Messenger in the Beast World was nowhere to be seen now. She was just like a little kid spoiled by her Daddy, begging for her favorite toy.
The Beast Deity caressed Gu Mengmengâs head dotingly. âMmm, you can. Go ahead and use my name in front of the Vulture race. Tell them that if they donât listen to my precious daughter, I will punish them such that no female of theirs would get pregnant in the next five years.â
âPfft...â Gu Mengmeng giggled. âDaddy, wonât the corruption bureau investigate you if you abuse your authority like that?â
The Beast Deity poked Gu Mengmengâs head. âI only watch romance series, and have not watched any police dramas. I donât understand anything about whatever corruption bureau. But for my precious daughter, I donât care even if I fall under investigation. Itâs my fate that I am your father.â
Gu Mengmeng threw herself into the Beast Deityâs embrace as she cried sweetly, âDaddy... you are so great...â
The Beast Deity maintained his benevolent smile. He patted Gu Mengmeng gently on her back. âAlright, time to go.â
Gu Mengmeng nodded. âOh, same old question. Wabei...â
The Beast Deity shook his head, indicating that it was still not time yet for him to reveal.
Gu Mengmeng didnât probe. She knew that the Beast Deity would naturally tell her the moment he could.
She stood up and patted herself off. âDaddy, I will be leaving now then.â
âWait a moment. â The Beast Deity called Gu Mengmeng. He cleared his throat. âThereâs a song called âSorrow of Separationâ in your world. Do you know how to sing it?â
Gu Mengmeng thought about it before nodding. âI do, itâs a pretty popular song. Daddy, do you want to hear it? Shall I sing it for you?â
The Beast Deity shook his head. âNext time. Your little wolf must be anxiously waiting for you at home.â
Gu Mengmeng nodded and hugged the Beast Deity. âThen I am leaving now.â
She let herself fall freely backwards.
Gu Mengmeng felt that if she returned to the present world now, she could probably go bungee jumping with absolutely no fear.
Opening her eyes, Gu Mengmeng was no longer inside the cave but sunning in the open space outside.
She was lying on Leaâs body while Elvis sat quietly by the side, using a large leaf to fan her gently. Wabei was sitting nearby, staring at her with seething anger. He said in a chilly voice. âHeard that you were going to leave me behind and go have fun on your own?â
