Chapter 18: Reinassance of Life

“Over here, Kiasii.” Maka says.

Kiasii is chasing a voice in the darkness. She sees a bright light and dashes towards it. The light dances around and is too fast for her. Kiasii keeps running at it but can’t catch it. Kiasii tries increasing her power to her legs but the systems aren’t working. Finally, Kiasii catches up to the light and grabs it.

Kiasii wakes up from a dream in a room in Lower Boe a week after the hive events. Her condo in Complex Centre was still being rebuilt after the alien invasion. Kiasii barely wanted to get up or open her eyes. She missed Maka dearly. Maka’s reaper cloak was on a table near the window. The window was open and a gust of wind entered the room. A hair that was on the Reaper cloak goes flying toward the bed with the incoming wind. The strain of hair lands on the bed sheets. Kiasii picks up the hair and examines it. The hair appears to be from a rodent. Kiasii thinks of an idea and rushes out of bed. Kiasii quickly gets changed and then exits the room from the balcony. Kiasii throws a capsule and a hoverboard pops out. Kiasii jumps on her hoverboard and starts flying in the sky.

It is a busy day in lower Boe as Kiasii flies through the skies. You can hear different creatures below her in the marketplace. Kaisii flies at top speed above the marketplace, she really wants to get to her destination. A spaceship floats in the sky and covers the sun above her. Boe had been increasing its security in different locations after the events created by the hive. After several more minutes of travel, Kiasii spots the alleyway to Giz’s lab. She flies downwards and touches the ground.

Kiasii runs into Giz’s labatorary. She looks around for Giz but he is not at the entrance. Giz must be in the back room, she thinks to herself. Kiasii walks past containers with different creatures in them. There is an empty glass container in the middle with green liquids in it. Kiasii passes by a scanner on the ceiling that scans her body.

“Giz? Are you home?” Kiasii shouts.

Giz is on a workbench with a microscope analyzing data. You can see hive samples all around him. He is still researching what caused this disaster. Giz turns around and sees Kiasii.

“Hey Kia, do you need help with something?” Giz asks.

“I found this hair today and I think it's from Maka.” Kiasii pulls out a rodent's hair.

“Where did you find this hair and how do you know it's from Maka?” Giz asks.

“I’m not sure but I saw this light in a dream and when I awoke a hair flew off of Maka’s Reaper cloak,” Kaisii explains.

“Hmm interesting, could be a hair from Maka,” Giz states.

“Can you just examine it Doc? Maybe you could re-create Maka’s body.” Kiasii asks. Kiasii hands the hair to Giz who puts it under the microscope.

“Ah yes,” Giz says while looking at it.

“what doc?” Kaisii asks in excitement.

“It is indeed a hair from a Keke,” Giz explains.

“So could you re-create a Keke from it?” Kaisii asks.

“In theory, I could, but it wouldn’t be the same person as Maka. It would be an entirely new Keke. Kiasii I’m sorry. I wish I could bring Maka back but I’m not a God but just a normal scientist.” Giz says.

“Doc, please. Just try to create a keke from this hair.” Kaisii pleads.

“Okay Kaisii, but it will take me weeks or even months to research and create a Keke from this hair,” Giz states.

“I’ll pay whatever you want,” Kaisii says.

“Fine, I’ll start to work on it immediately and update you on the process,” Giz says.

Kaisii smiles and leaves the lab to let him work. Time passes as it naturally does and every week Kiasii drops in on Giz to see how the new Keke is growing. The Keke’s body starts super small but grows out slowly after weeks in a container of green liquids in Giz’s lab. After months it grows to the same size as Maka used to be.

Kiasii returns to Giz’s lab and walks inside. Kiasii sees Giz running some tests on the Keke in the container of liquids. Kaisii approaches the container and puts her hand on it.

“Has he been moving?” Kaisii asks.

“Yes, but the weird thing is that it should be awake by now. I don’t understand why its eyes haven’t opened. I’ve run a lot of tests but this is unnatural.” Giz proclaims.

Kiasii starts banging the class.

“Wake up little guy,” Kiasii says and keeps banging the glass.

“Kiasii patience please, all good work takes time,” Giz says.

Kiasii starts to get mad and then sad. Thinking about all the memories of Maka again.

“Will Maka ever come back?” Kiasii asks.

“I don’t know but we could have a brand new Keke,” Giz says.

“I don’t want a new Keke, I want Maka.” Kiasii slams the glass and shatters it.

Energy starts to surge through Kiasii’s hands. A light shines from Kiasii’s hands and enters the Keke’s body as Kiasii touches the Keke in the liquid. An explosion happens sending Giz and Kaisii knocked backwards. Liquid shoots everywhere in the air and the Keke’s eyes open. It starts to glow with power. Kiasii runs up to the Keke to examine it and Giz stands up completely shocked.

“Hey, Kiasii,” Maka says. Kaisii and Giz look shocked.

“How is this even possible?” Giz asks.

“Maka, are you alive? Is this really you? Am I dreaming?” Kiasii runs up to hug Maka. They embrace each other once more. Maka hugs her with his four tails.

“I think I’m real.” Maka grins.

“What do you remember?” Kaisii ask.

“We were fighting against a toxic creature that kept growing, then it swallowed me. I awoke in the hive multiple times. Something was draining my energy and I felt pain. I thought I saw you fight a spider creature. Then I became some form of light and was flying everywhere.” Maka says.

“Simply fascinating. I will have to study you more.” Giz says.

“It’s the real Maka.” Kiasii starts crying.

“Don’t cry. I’m back.” Maka says and they embrace once more.

“Maka don’t ever leave my side again. I don’t ever want to lose you.” Kiasii says and Maka nods his head.

Maka’s stomach starts to growl.

“Looks like your hungry. How about I cook you two a meal.” Giz says.

“Hmm, food… I feel like something cheesy, maybe pizza?” Maka asks

“How about we go to Tony’s? I’ll bring back a pizza for you too Giz.” Kaisii grins.

“Yes, let’s go. I can’t wait to devour some melted cheese again.” Maka grins back.

Kiasii and Maka walk out of the lab. They are so focused on catching up again that they barely notice Giz. Kiasii is smiling from ear to ear. Maka is bouncing around with his tails as they leave the lab. Giz watches them and a tear rolls down from his eye. They turn around then say goodbye to Giz and exit the lab.

Kaisii jumps on her hoverboard and Maka jumps on her shoulder. Kiasii starts to fly out of the alleyway away from the lab. Kiasii starts flying through the sky on a hoverboard heading to Tonys as the sun sets. Maka is on her shoulder and smiling while feeling the wind brush against his body.

“Incoming call from Sid,” Tada announces.

“Hey, Kiasii. Giz told me Maka is alive again. How is that even possible?” Sid asks.

“I don’t know boss, it’s a miracle. I knew their was something different about him when I saw the energy and light escape from the core in the hive.” Kiasii looks at Maka.

“It’s hard to remember everything but it felt like my soul escaped my body. I remember bits and pieces of memories within the hive. My memory is still kinda foggy.” Maka states.

“Interesting. Giz will have to research you more. I’m also looking into where the hive came from.” Sid states.

“Any progress?” Kiasii asks as she keeps flying in the air on her hoverboard.

“No, but Giz is doing some research on the arachnids' bodies. I also sent Zuku on a mission to another galaxy.” Sid states.

“The hive queen told me that she hunts for planets with energy. It was clearly looking to destroy this planet. Something seems off though. Could it have been looking for Maka? Or was it just looking for energy sources.” Kiasii says.

“I don’t know yet but we need to be ready for whatever happens in the future. Might have to have a full Reaper meeting soon. I’ve also heard rumors about the demi remerging. Things are going to get busy soon. I feel like a dark omen is in the air.” Sid says.

“Me and Maka can deal with the Demi but do you think Gorro could get attacked again?” Kiasii says.

“Only time will tell but Kiasii be on your guard,” Sid states.

“ Will do boss. See you soon.” Kiasii ends the call.

“Don’t worry Kia, I’ll protect you next time. “ Maka says and Kiasii smiles.

“We will fight anything that comes at us together. I won’t lose you again Maka.” Kiasii says.

Kiasii and Maka soar through the air. They see Tony’s pizza store a little in the distance. Maka starts to think about cheese on his pizza and smiles in delight. It's been so long since he had a full meal. Kiasii still ponders how Maka came back and there are still unrevealed mysteries about Maka that need to be discovered. Regardless she’s now happier than she’s ever been. Kiasii soars at full speed on her hoverboard. Then stops above Tony's store. They look at each other one more time and smile. Then Maka hops into the air off her shoulder and spins his tails around as the sunsets on another day in Boe.
