All of a sudden, the room fell silent.
Eileen moved past Phyllis and headed to the kitchen. In a short while, she emerged with a plate of scrambled eggs and placed it before Egbert.
Ignoring the gazes of those around him, Egbert took the fork and started eating.
After tasting it, he said, "Itâs really good."
Eileen nonchalantly replied, "Obviously, I already knew it was good. I had some before you come down."
The dining room grew somewhat quiet after that.
Everyone quietly ate their meal, and when they had finished, Phyllis suddenly glanced at her phone and said, âBblythe is already at the airport.â
At ten oâclock in the morning, Bblythe arrived at the bridal suite.
Although they often chatted in the group, they hadnât seen each other in person for quite a while. Now that they were together, everyone was a bit excited. Phyllis held onto Bblythe and wouldnât let go.
Bblythe patted Phyllisâs head and, with a smile, said to Eileen and Egbert, âI brought a wedding gift.â
Eileen was taken aback, then her eyes instantly lit up at Bblythe!
Returning to her car, Bblythe fetched a large box. Eager to help, Eileen rushed to assist her. They placed the box on the coffee table and Eileen asked, âWhatâs inside?â
As she opened the box, Bblythe explained, âItâs a silk quilt.â
Eileen was a little surprised at this gift.
Bblythe pulled out a bit of the quilt to show Eileen its quality, then said, "It's a handmade pure silk product. When I asked my mom what was an appropriate wedding gift, she suggested cash. But I thought that was too cliché. I asked what else I could give and she suggested a quilt. In her generation, gifting a quilt for a wedding was a common tradition, and itâs also useful. So, I got you a quilt!"
The room fell eerily silent, everyone was speechless In the midst of this strange silence, a manâs soft laughter suddenly rang out. Everyone turned to see it was Egbert who was laughing. His deep eyes filled with amusement.
Eileen turned to glare at him, then kicked him lightly in the shin!
Bblythe, seeing everyoneâs silence, asked in confusion, âWhat? Did someone else give you a quilt already? It doesnât matter. You can always use another one.â
âBblythe...â Phyllis tentatively approached and took Bblytheâs arm, struggling to find the words, âWho... are you gifting it to?â
Bblythe replied, âDoes it matter? They can share it. Theyâre married, after all.â
Phyllis was speechless Josiah awkwardly asked, âBblythe, what do you think their relationship is?â
Bblythe replied, âTheyâre a married couple, right? Didnât they secretly get married and then announce it on a reality TV show?â
Phyllis slapped Bblytheâs arm and whispered, âWho told you that?â
Bblythe was stunned, âIsnât it?â
Phyllis replied, âOf course not! They're just pretending to be married for a reality TV show. They were just paired up for the show.â
Bblythe was dumbfounded! She looked at Phyllis, then at Eileen, who was expressionless.
Realizing they werenât joking, she immediately apologized, âIâm so sorry! Iâve been out of the loop because of filming. I heard you two got married and thought I had missed out on some big news. I even checked online but found nothing. I thought you were planning on announcing your marriage on the reality show!â
Embarrassed by her mistake, Bblythe quickly tried to make amends.
Eileen felt like crying. She didnât understand how things had gotten so complicated. Egbert, on the other hand, glanced at the quilt and pondered, âIt will come in handy someday.â
Bblythe quickly pushed the gift towards Egbert, saying, âThen letâs give it to Mr. Reed. Itâs a good quality silk quilt. Youâll surely need it when you get married, Mr. Reed!â
Egbert accepted the gift and said, âOn behalf of my future wife, thank you, Ms. Bblythe.â
Bblythe waved her hand, just wishing to move on on this embarrassing episode as quickly as possible.
With Bblytheâs arrival, it was getting late and time to prepare lunch. Eileen decided to go grocery shopping with Egbert while Simon stayed back to entertain the guests.
At the supermarket, Eileen was in a dilemma and asked Egbert, âAre they... coming over for lunch? Should we... make extra?â
Egbert knew who she was referring to, and he furrowed his brows and said, âNo, itâs okay.â
Eileen was startled and immediately asked, âHave they already left?â
Egbert calmly nodded.
Eileen instantly breathed a sigh of relief, her mood instantly lifting! Seeing her excitement, Egbert asked, âIf you donât like them, why not just tell them?â
Eileen hesitated, scratching her head, âItâs not that I donât like them, itâs just...â
âYouâre not used to it?â
Eileen lowered her head, picking at the vegetables on the rack, but remained silent.
Egbert sighed softly, reaching out to ruffle her hair, âItâs alright. Next time you feel uncomfortable, let me know.â
Eileen glanced at Egbert, then retorted, âYeah, right. Yesterday, you were too busy chatting with the others. You didnât even look at me when I tried to get your attention.â
Egbert helplessly replied, âI was occupied.â
Eileen huffed, turned her head, and went to choose vegetables, ignoring him.
During lunch, the Lopez family didnât show up. After lunch, the guests started to leave one by one.
Jarvis had to return to the hospital for a check-up, and Simon had to drive him. Phyllis and Josiah were caught up with other commitments; whereas, Bblythe needed to return to the shooting set.
After seeing off all their guests, Eileen and Egbert, wore out, decided to take a brief nap in their rooms.
In the afternoon, when Egbert emerged from his room, he noticed the window overlooking the garden was ajar.
Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen ï¤Chapter 259 Stepping outside, he saw Eileen perched on the high garden wall, her legs swinging back and forth. In her hands, she was tearing pieces off a strip of beef jerky, feeding a small, tawny kitten.
The kitten was slender and nimble, its probably only a few months old, yet somehow it had managed to leap onto the high wall.
Egbert leaned against the doorjamb, arms folded, and chuckled at the sight. "Where did the kitten come from?" he asked.
Hearing his voice, Eileen looked down and saw Egbert awake. She jumped off the wall, replying, "I'm not sure. I heard it meowing in the yard and decided to feed it some jerky."
When Eileen moved, the kitten followed suit, hopping down from the wall and rubbing its tiny body against her legs, purring contentedly.
Finding it quite endearing, Eileen picked it up and cradled it in her arms. "It's a lot cuter than a monkey, wouldn't you agree?"
Egbert chuckled lightly and reached out to pet the kitten.
"Hisss!"
Unexpectedly, the kitten let out a fierce hiss, baring its teeth and claws at Egbert.
Quickly, Egbert withdrew his hand, narrowly avoiding a scratch.
Startled, Eileen checked Egbert for any injuries. Seeing none, she let out a sigh of relief. Immediately, she tapped the kitten on the head, scolding, "What's gotten into you to be so vicious all of a sudden?"
The kitten shrank back, but quickly resumed its affectionate rubbing against Eileen's fingers.
Eileen, in turn, gently scratched behind its ears.
Egbert stared at them, speechless.
