Lena didn't see Ethan for the rest of the day. Or, more accurately, he actively avoided her.
By the time the final bell rang, she found herself lingering by her locker, half-expecting him to show up. But he didn't.
Jaxon, however, did.
He leaned against the lockers beside her, arms crossed. "Still nothing?"
Lena sighed. "Nope."
Jaxon studied her for a moment. "You okay?"
Lena let out a dry laugh. "What do you think?"
He nudged her shoulder lightly. "I think you need a distraction."
She gave him a wary look. "What kind of distraction?"
A slow smirk spread across his face. "Get in my car, Carter. We're going on an adventure."
Lena raised a brow. "Define adventure."
Jaxon wiggled his brows. "That ruins the mystery."
Despite herself, Lena felt a smile tug at her lips. Maybe, just maybe, Jaxon was exactly what she needed right now.
